You guys, decluttering is hard. I definitely don't think that's
said enough, but you're not wrong, you're not crazy, you're not lazy,
and you're not failing if you're too overwhelmed to declutter. Because it's
hard, okay? I'm making myself some tea. You're just
you're not immune to hard things, okay? Neither am I. I had an
insanely, I don't want to be dramatic, but a
very overwhelming and stressful week. And everything just feels shamble-like.
And so I'm going to declutter and organize five spaces that I
know for a fact will give me an energy boost, it will make me feel more tidy and
organized, and it'll make me feel like life's not
as overwhelming as it is. Welcome all you overwhelmed people.
You're not alone, and we're going to fix it today in the next like
seven minutes. Let's do it. What does it say today?
How strange that nature does not knock and yet does not intrude.
Section number one. Your bed and your bedside table.
We're going to declutter, make them very simple and very organized.
This should take you six minutes, okay? Not overwhelming.
That's two really good songs. What we're going to pay attention to.
Not too many pillows. A messy bedside table is a messy life. So we're going to
declutter those surfaces. Make sure what's in your drawer is
intentional and meaningful. I have two children sleeping in our
bedroom right now. There's a crib here, there's a
crib here, and there's also our figgy couch cushions on the floor for
our other children. I told you life was
overwhelming right now. Not that that's a bad thing, okay? I am
someone who's like, if my kids need me in the night, they are in our
room, period. It's just how I do things. I always want them to know they're safe
and there's a spot for them. Bedside tables are the first thing you
see when you wake up in the morning. So, simple. One candle, one alarm clock,
the water, goes back into the kitchen. The bed, it gets
the pillows that you sleep with and then one to two pillows to like
cover the pillows that you sleep with. Which honestly, you guys, we sleep with
every single one of these. Even these ones. I know you're gonna ask,
duvet covers from Quince. I love it so much. But you
can feel the energy of a messy, cluttered bedroom. So, an overwhelming
amount of pillows that you don't need. If you're already
overwhelmed, that's going to overwhelm you more,
okay? You don't need more things to do in the morning, more decisions to make,
more clutter. So, keep it simple. Bedside tables. Keep them simple. Keep the
surfaces clean. Okay, so try that. Go declutter your bed.
Look, I don't even have any throw blankets on here right now. And your
bedside tables. Six minutes. Get that energy boost. Get
that hit of dopamine. Let's move to the next one.
Go grab your bag. Let's do this together. We're going to declutter.
Backpack, bag, whatever belongs to you. Wallet. Because this is something
you're grabbing for every day. If it's messy, if you can't find something,
that's causing this stress and this overwhelm
in your head. Although it's a very minute space,
it's hurting you. Let's do it. Okay, these are jeans that I need to return.
They're the wrong size. I love this bag.
Cup gorge. So gorge. I'll leave it below if you guys need a good
high quality bag. Okay, I can't do this with one hand.
I keep this black zip up bag for like kids things. This chew toy, pacifiers,
things that I don't want being exposed to everything else in my bag.
Tomato. Of course, I don't even know why I have that.
A lollipop for emergencies. Okay, wallet.
Pencil, pen, marker, thing. My children's wallets.
That's the safest place. My purse, okay. Keys. They go in the same place every
single time and they weren't because I was overwhelmed this week.
Okay, don't judge me. I'm getting back to it. All right,
my purse is completely empty. That feels good.
The black miscellaneous but also a central
bag, okay. Wallet, pencil pouch, boys wallets.
Kleenex that goes in its own section. Hand sanitizer right next to the
Kleenex, okay. We got rid of jeans, hat, bulletin, a wipe,
and a diaper and also just put things back where they belong.
Wait, I can also get rid of this. Also get rid of this little ornament. It's
precious. It doesn't belong in my purse. Headphone
jack, okay. This, I keep in my purse on purpose.
Open it for you so you can smell it, okay. Here,
smell. Amazing, right? I know. It's truly free. Laundry wash. I keep one in my car. I
keep one in my purse because they smell that good and it's
non-toxic. It's clean. I feel like a million freaking bucks.
Look at this. She's ready. It's not overwhelming. It's not too heavy.
I'm healing. I'm healing. Okay, here's the aftermath.
This matters too. Let's put it away in the next 30 seconds
so it's not just sitting here, okay. We're not going to add more overwhelm
to our life. Trash, trash, trash.
Dishes. Very, very simple but also a cause for overwhelm
with dishes, excess dishes, cleanup, putting this stuff in the dishwasher,
putting it back in your cabinetry. This is going to take you
hopefully five minutes, okay. That's it unless you have an overwhelming amount.
It's okay. No judgment, okay. But we're going to have
one bowl, one plate, one salad plate for everyone in the family and that is it.
The rest of the stuff that you're going to use when people come over to your
house, up there. Up in the top shelves that you
can't reach every single day but for an evening you can easily reach up, get them
down. You're set, okay. This is going to minimize
our cleanup. It's going to make life easier and it's going to visually
chill you out, okay. We're not going to be
overwhelmingly stacking things in here and making it jib jabbled, okay.
That's enough. We're over that. Okay, I have a bowl
for each child. That feels better. All right, here's the catch though. You have
to clean out your bowl every time you eat from it which
when someone first told me that I was like, what? Every single meal?
Well, yes. That's what I'm saying. But when you have just
one thing to care for, when each family member has one thing to care for,
one bowl to their name, it's so much simpler. Get into that rhythm of
eating your soup, washing it out. My family has arrived.
Let's put groceries away. Make this easy on yourself, you guys.
I promise it's not as hard as you think to just clean a bowl.
Oh, there we go. Out of the shot. All right. Okay, you guys, quick pause to thank the
sponsor of this video, HelloFresh. If you guys haven't heard of
factor meals, I'm honored to be the one to tell you.
Factor meals are individualized meals that are refrigerated,
never frozen. They heat up in two minutes. They are healthy. They use clean
ingredients, gut-friendly, and they're insanely easy.
I love eating healthy food. It makes me feel good.
My husband is the same and these not only work for me
in motherhood. I've eaten a few for breakfast. They're that good.
My husband brings them to lunch. We are big fans. They're very
protein forward, which is what both my husband and I need in this season of
life as well. So you can go online. They have a hundred
different meals, snacks, smoothies, breakfasts. It's quite impressive.
And the food that they're giving you, quite impressive as well.
I had some fillets for breakfast. I'll just say that. So if you guys want to
try out factor meals, the company who bans 175
ingredients, so it's honesty that you can taste, click the link down below for 50%
off your first box and free breakfast for a year. Thanks again
Factor for sponsoring this portion of the video.
I want you to go stand in the entrance of your home. Where do you walk into your
home every single day? I wouldn't even say
the front door because you don't do that, but your garage door. When you walk in,
how does it feel to stand there and observe? What do you see?
Okay, this might take you the 10 minute, 12 minute, 15 minute range,
but it is so valuable. When you come back into your home after you've had a
day at work, after you've gone to the grocery store,
after you've hung out with some friends, you don't want to come home
to mess the second you walk in. Actually, there's some great studies
on the importance of creating a peaceful entryway.
This stuff really does matter. The clutter here really does stress you out
even more, visual and physical and mental. Like
there are so many decisions just waiting for you, but you're like,
no, I can't do it. I need to walk in the house. I need to like put my bag down. I
need to feed my cat. I need to feed my dog. I need to give my
two-year-old a cheese stick. Okay, so what needs to be decluttered?
What can you organize? Turn some good music on. Olivia Deen is
like absolutely slang right now. She's my favorite.
Let's organize and make it feel harmonious in here.
This is what I'm working with. The coats are pretty much up, but we've got
backpack, helmet, shoes, a golf flag. Over here we've got shoes,
laundry, paper towels, and some clutter up here.
We're gonna fix this. Let's do it together.
I'm right here with you guys decluttering and organizing, okay?
I have four little kids. I am not Superman and I need these moments. I need
these days, I guess these mornings on the weekend
to put things back together, okay? I'm not expecting perfection out of myself.
Not expecting perfection out of you. We're in the last space,
the bathroom, and it is just not working for me in here. It has never worked in
here for me. So I have some decluttering. I have some
organizing. This is probably gonna take me 15-20
minutes, but altogether a full hour of organizing and decluttering
to set me up for success and make me feel
wildly different, all right? You can do this. I'm gonna turn on a good
song. I'm actually, just to give you a little
detail, my husband's stuff, we have no drawers. We have no drawers. We have no
shelves. We only have cabinets for now. We'll fix
that because it doesn't really flow. It doesn't work right now.
So things are normally under here, but then when I'm in a rush, when I have a
two-year-old at my leg, I put it up here so that it's easier so
he's not grabbing into my makeup. There's so much going on in here every
day, and I need it to be more functional. So I'm gonna move
tight stuff under this. I'm gonna move it over here.
Do we care, Margaret? Mmm, I don't think so. But I'm gonna organize.
We'll turn on a bit of music. Go to your bathroom. Do this with me.
And then I have one final thing to say. You're doing great.
Trees aren't green. The ocean is gray. Skies are vague blue. Come my way.
My room is a mess. You could use a hand. My favorite TV show's still capturing.
I know I must get it right. Must get back in the fight.
This can't be a surprise. I think the letters lie.
I'm asleep, walking through. All of my problems, I know.
Make it through. Every night, it's the same. I keep running fast.
Left and right. Wondrous color. I'm asleep, walking through.
All of my problems, I know. Ready to go. The feeling of thirst.
Desire to be. A rock in my heels. My numbers are poison.
Closing my veins. Feels like I used to avoid the pain.
