Hello everyone, welcome back to my channel.
My name's Kristen, and today I'm gonna be sharing
with you some interior design
and home decor trends for 2026.
Now, I think it's very important to keep track of trends,
especially in the world of design.
If you're planning renovation projects
or redecorating your home,
you always wanna be on the cusp of what's new,
or else you'll start making design decisions
that are actually dating your space.
So it's not always important to follow the trends,
but it is important to know about them
so you can make the best design decisions for your home.
Good thing this year's trends are very timeless,
in my opinion, so I think you're really gonna love them.
I hope this video gives you some ideas
on how you can incorporate these design trends
in your space as well.

and let's go ahead and jump right into it.
Let's talk color, because color dictates a lot
when it comes to interior design,
so I think it's really important to look at
what the paint brands are releasing as the color of the year
and what is the Pantone color of the year.
This year, all of the colors, for the most part,
are very neutral, which is kind of surprising,
but I think it gives everyone a ton of flexibility.
It's showing warm neutrals as a trending palette,
and from there, I think a trend is going to be incorporating
those deep jewel tones.
So Behr has released their color of the year as Hidden Gem,
which is a beautiful jewel tone color.
It has saturation in it,
but it also has a bit of a gray tone
that keeps it muted and really moody,
and I feel like that's the perfect mix
that really gives you a historic, classic, traditional look
while still being very impactful.
Sherwin-Williams released their color of the year
as Universal Khaki, which is a warm neutral as well.
Very easy to work with.
I think this is gonna be great for mixing with wood tones,
any color palette.
We also have Benjamin Moore that released
a beautiful charcoal brown called Silhouette.
I think this is a very interesting color.
Again, brings in that moodiness,
that muted tone as well,
but it also is within that warm palette,
and Pantone released their color of the year
as Cloud Dancer, which is a white.
I think that's just giving us the flexibility
to pretty much do whatever we want.
So this doesn't mean you have to use these exact colors,
but I do like to use them as kind of a guideline
of where these colors can take you,
into the browns, into the whites,
into the jewel tones, and into the neutrals.
So I actually think this is one of my favorite
color of the year overall palettes,
because there's so much flexibility in it,
and it really is a timeless look.
Now a very pretty design detail that's trending this year
is skirting details.
Skirting details in any furniture piece.
Think bed frames, dining chairs, sofas, lounge chairs,
ottomans, there's so many ways to incorporate skirting,
and I think it gives such detail.
Now this could be looked at as dated
and something you thought would never come back again,
but I think it has such traditional classic roots
tied to it that really amps up furniture design.
I think it makes everything look really fun,
whimsical, soft, and somewhat feminine.
So I think it's a great way to kind of soften
your room designs this year.
You can achieve this look by thrifting, antiquing.
You could find really special pieces that way
that already have this traditional detail,
or you can reupholster any item
that you already have in your home
to get this detail or purchase this brand new look.
I'm seeing it all over furniture and decor brands right now,
so it's pretty much available everywhere.
You can kind of create more of a structured pattern
with specific square box pleating.
You can also achieve a more soft, whimsical look
with soft ruffles and pleats.
So you can go in very different directions with it
to achieve a different style,
but I think skirting in general
has evolved to be more detailed than ever.
We really got into slip-covered pieces
that had that soft finish at the end of the furniture piece,
but now we're adding even more detail onto that
for an even more elaborate look.
So let me know down below in the comments your thoughts.
I know it's gonna sway both ways,
but I am all for the skirting detail this year.
Now, this also leads into another trend
of layered patterns very well,
because a lot of these skirted furniture pieces
have a pattern to them.
I feel like that's what looks best
in a lot of these pieces.
Layering pattern around your home this year
or in one specific room is definitely trending.
It's giving you so much depth in your design.
And the one thing to keep in mind when pattern layering
is thinking about keeping a cohesive color palette
with your patterns that you're mixing
and mixing scales of patterns.
You wanna have your hero pattern
and you wanna have your secondary patterns
that really tie in nicely together.
So think about adding more pattern
into your home this year for a trending look.
You can go full out with your pattern
and put it on your walls and main furniture pieces
like your sofa or sectional,
or you could take a more subtle approach
by incorporating patterned curtains, rugs,
throw pillows, or even accent chairs.
I've always been someone that sticks to solid colors
when it comes to my furniture pieces
because I think there's a ton of longevity in that,
but it really does get me excited
mixing in some pattern furniture this year.
I think it's such a fun way to amp up your home design
and really make it look unique.
Now, one overall design idea
that I think is gonna be very trendy this year
is what I would call a dressed interior,
something that is fully finished with a ton of detail.
Think chair rail, bed skirts, upholstery, canopy beds,
skirted furniture.
When I think about all these details,
I think about historic home tours I've been on,
the Biltmore,
checking out all of those beautiful historic homes
with all of the original furniture and detail.
Everything feels very dressed and finished,
and that is what is trending this year,
just a ton of layered detail in a space.
I think we've spent a lot of years stripping things back
that now we're just adding more and more detail
to get a very full look in our home.
So this could tie into maximalism or grandma chic,
but I think there's a way of kind of making it look modern,
but finished,
and really bringing in that detail in a new way
so that your space doesn't feel cluttered or overdone,
but you can really end up with a cozy look.
Now, there's always trending metal finishes
in interior design,
and metal finishes are all over your home
with lighting, hardware, pulls and knobs, door handles.
So it does dictate a lot
when it comes to your overall palette and design choices.
This year, luckily, we have beautiful trending finishes
that are nickel and unlacquered brass.
These are metals that patina and change over time.
So they really add to that historic,
timeless look around your home.
These are absolutely timeless finishes.
They have warm undertones,
and the change and patina over time
is really what's gonna give you that classic look.
I love that they help tell the story of your home.
You can see weathering and wear on the hardware,
and I feel like that's what gives your home
this timeless feel.
So I don't think you can go wrong
with choosing unlacquered brass or nickel in any situation
because they are going to last a lifetime
and always be beautiful every single year.
Now, I always think it's fun
to keep an eye on tile trends for the year
because it just speaks volumes.
We've been really moving in a fun direction
when it comes to tile with bold colors,
bold patterns in tile design,
even handmade tiles that give us
a lot of light bouncing features,
a really beautiful organic look.
And this year, we're seeing a huge push
towards hand-painted tiles.
Now, these are gorgeous.
They really give off this kind of cottage English style
that, again, is another layered pattern in your home.
This is a somewhat bold move,
but it also can be very subtle and timeless
because it is a classic detail
that has been seen for decades and decades.
So if you have a more cottagey,
traditional English-style home,
this would be such a gorgeous detail in your space.
Think kitchens, bathrooms, laundry rooms.
You can add a really gorgeous handmade look in your home
that's one-of-a-kind and unique with hand-painted tiles.
Now, traditionally, these Delft tiles
came in a white and blue finish,
but you can also find them in white and browns
and neutrals and even unique color palettes.
So it's really giving you a lot of flexibility
with your design,
but I think it can be a very sweet touch.
Now, another design idea that's being prioritized this year
is personalized spaces.
Now, I think every space should always be personalized,
but there has been years of spaces
being stripped back of personality.
This year is all about personalization,
but I think in maybe a more curated form.
So think collections like plate walls
that you've collected over time.
That will give you a beautiful, curated designer look,
but it also can show something very special
and something very personal to you.
You can also do this with book collections.
It really is just a way of showing personality in your home,
but in a tasteful way.
It's all about adding that story
back into your home this year
and having items around your home
that can be conversation starters.
Now, just like metal finishes,
it's always a good idea to know what's trending
in wood finishes as well,
because that's a huge element to your home.
This could be your flooring, your cabinetry, your furniture.
So again, it dictates a lot when it comes to interior design.
Now that we're adding more depth and character
into our spaces,
we're bringing in those deeper, darker wood tones.
Now, I actually love mixing wood tones.
I knew that the wood trend
was going towards deeper, darker woods,
and I still went ahead and stripped our floors back
and brought them to a white oak finish.
I think white oak is very neutral, very versatile,
and because there's knots and details into it,
you can lean towards those deep, dark wood tones
and light tones.
So I find it to be very flexible,
but I love adding in dark, deep wood tones
that are trending for the year,
especially with furniture.
I think it pairs very nicely with light woods.
I think adding in different wood tones over time
really gives you a collected look anyways
that is definitely on trend for the year.
Another little design detail that's trending
that I'm really loving is decorative toe kicks.
This can be done in laundry rooms, kitchens, bathrooms,
or even shelving around your home,
and it just gives you this beautiful, dainty,
patterned extra look to your very straight edge cabinetry.
I think it's a great way of adding in character
to your home, a historic look,
but it'll also give you a one-of-a-kind look
because you can play around with custom details
and patterns to achieve any look for your home.
I think it even looks really great
adding brackets on shelves
and just adding in that little depth of detail
that can just take your existing straight edge pieces
to the next levels.
Now, when it comes to wall art,
a playful, easy-to-integrate design detail
that I'm noticing trending this year
is patterned and colorful matting for your wall art.
If you already have existing art around your home
that has plain white matting,
you can definitely create this look all on your own
with fabric, paint, peel-and-stick wallpaper.
You can wrap your matting and create this look on a budget
to give you a really trending
and exciting look to your wall art.
All right, so that's it
for some of my favorite interior design trends for 2026.
There's definitely more elements
that are trending in the world of design,
but these are my favorite ones that I've been noticing,
things that I would integrate into my home this year,
and things that I think you should have your eye on for 2026.
