The story of The Gorge is, it tells the tale of two people who have been sent to this gorge
to protect it and the connection that they form with each other and later their survival within it.
I loved playing Drasa because I've played a lot of characters that are rather heavy
and whilst I really enjoy that, Drasa is probably the character that I played that's the quickest to
laugh and the quickest to smile or to dance, so it was really fun being in her skin every day.
She's a world-class sniper, you don't want to mess with her, but she has a really
good outlook on life, like she really just thinks that life is for living and for enjoying it.
Drasa's in The Gorge because she took out somebody of prominence and she needs to go
dark for a while and so she's been sent to The Gorge as a way of maintaining a low profile and
once she gets there she realizes that there is somebody across The Gorge that she's interested in
and whilst they've been told that they can't communicate with each other, there's just an
attraction that is there and a bond that is formed. I think what's so sweet about the two of them is
that they really encourage the other to be a better person. She sees that he can be a bit reserved and
she's coaxing him out of that and always trying to make him laugh and I think what he provides
for her is a real sense of stability and the feeling that she's with somebody that can match her.
Myles and I get along so great, we've known each other for years, we have the same agent and I'm
very close with his wife and this was just such a wonderful opportunity to really deepen our bond,
he's like family to me. Every day we had a huge stunt and it would be something entirely different
and I had the time of my life doing that. If it was, you know, shooting one of the massive guns
or being parachuted into essentially an insane river, being dragged by a horse,
fighting, it was a lot, it was a lot. Whilst there is a large portion of this film that is
visual effects, we did have set builds that were incredible. A personal favourite of mine is
the forest of the gorge, they created that inside and it was really quite magical to be in it but
for the things that we had to imagine we did have technology that was super helpful just in terms of
this is what it actually looks like, this is what it's going to look like and that was really helpful.
I'm biased but I'm going to say Drosser because she's just a plucky thing, like she really just
dives headfirst into every situation and is so practically minded and yet is guided by this
huge heart. She really, you know, she has strong morals and yeah, I also just like her and I like
her taste in music, she's got good taste in music. There's a fight sequence that I did with a lovely
actor called James, lovely in real life in the film, he's terrifying but I was very proud of that
just because it was something that we had talked about very early on in the filming process and
we shot it for about a week and by the end of that I felt really proud. I hope that audiences
enjoy watching these two people fall in love, you know, it really is, it's sweet and it's tender and
that alongside a really great soundtrack and some incredible action sequences, that's, you know,
a recipe for success. Anya and I actually, because we share the same agent, so we had known each other
socially, you know, for a little while but I think that you are such a stud and to be able to, you
know, work on this because it's such a unique project, kind of falling in love through sniper scopes
and in that situation, so it was very intimate and I think that's what I connected with and
obviously being able to do all the action stuff was a lot of fun. One of my favorite parts of the
job is learning a skill that's very, you know, kind of tactile and you really get to immerse
yourself in it. We had great, you know, you always, the stunt teams are always, I feel like,
some the best in the world at what they do. I grew up with, you know, well one really good
buddy of mine who kind of does what Levi does for a living and you would think he's, it's like the
exact opposite, he's not this kind of big, you know, energetic and this and that but he is, he's like
this warrior poet and that's something that always stuck with me with Levi. I was like because
I've seen, you know, it's like my buddy's very much into the ancestry of being a warrior and feels and
but also the deeper meaning behind it. I mean, it's a very unusual position when you're
having been tasked to, you know, take somebody's life. I like kind of when you and I get together
in the gorge, which that was a good amount of it, but I mean, I think that when we first,
when our characters first meet, right, because there's been so much build up to it
and the, there's a dance sequence in the film that I just think is really beautiful. I love the
needle drop, it's a great song, it's a, it's just such a sweet moment and it is, it's like you're,
you get one night with somebody but then it's, it's like, okay, I would risk my life for them.
When I saw the film for the first time because it is, you know, it's this, you know, love from
afar and kind of this voyeurism and even though they're, well, they're two people who are out in
the middle of nowhere and they're isolated but through those, you know, the sniper scopes,
it feels, there's such like, I don't know, it's just, there's an intimacy to it that makes you,
I don't know, I just love it. It's so fun feeling like a fly on the wall and especially
in something like this but it's, you know, it's very vast and there's moments that are really
scary and intense but most of the time it's just me, you know, looking at you through there and
trying to connect with somebody without being able to speak.
I essentially interview Levi for a position that I need at the gorge and because he's a
sharpshooter and incredibly capable having been for four tours in Afghanistan, I choose him to
go on this mission. When I first meet him, you know, he's had a run-in with the police and
for all I know he's a complete nutball so I have to kind of find out if there's someone at home
and if they're coherent and so it was, I think, a very well-written scene and great fun to play.
I mean, we only had that one scene but it was a good one. You know, for me it's always the story.
I don't even notice anything else till I've read a script and this was such an amazing story.
I thought it was the greatest adventure and love story and a horrific situation
that you discover. So it had all these elements of a classic by Anya Taylor-Joy. You know, I say
this having played women in these movies. I think it's so beautifully conceived. She's so consistent
and strong and together they're even stronger and so I think it's a wonderful love story in
that way. Really, it's a film that has everything, I think. Really original, very romantic and
a real blockbuster. You know, I think it's a blockbuster all over it because it's a very
love story, a very ingenious background of what's going on in the gorge, which is quite hair-raising
and this incredible adventure of watching Levi live in this place and do all the things that
Bartholomew expects him to do. It's just really exhilarating, I think, because it's kind of a
survival thing, so you learn all about that too. So I think it's really original and
a great story. There's a wonderful moment toward the beginning of the movie where Levi asks the
question, what's in the gorge? And the other character throws a grenade down into the gorge
and you hear this horrific, maybe human noises, maybe not. And, you know, just that was all I
needed to hear. And then, you know, frankly the more you find out about what's in the gorge
and why it is this way, it's so fascinating. It just has so many different fascinating elements
of it. And, you know, I'm not a big horror creature, I'm a total coward,
but I've never seen anything like this.
