HANGING STANDS ON MY FARM

Does it seem like it's working? I think so. Hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times.
This is a lease we had last year. Last year we were not allowed to put in food plots. This year
we got blessed by the farmer. He's like anywhere there's no crops planted we can put in plots. So
we went around the farm sprayed about two weeks ago a bunch of little micro plots which basically
is just going to be a nice little spot that's not going to hold deer but it'll hopefully stop deer
make them more attracted to these smaller areas. I mean we have you know 40 yards by 50 yards this
little little path goes up and there's a scrape over there and we're hopefully going to put a
vertical up in this tree right here. Plot number two on the lease. A little bit bigger plot. Still
considered a kill plot transition kind of. It's right in the middle of this finger. We got beans
over there, corn over here. It's a spot that Caitlin's actually claiming she's going to try
to kill swoops. Buckley calls swoops on. Hopefully she kills that one right away because this is a
really good spot. A little bit bigger. Excited for this one. The setup's going to be dope. Stand
in there. Food plot here. Big corridor here. Pretty good size creek right here. Should be good.
Big farm day today. We're out here on the lease. We're going to put in some food plots. We might
hang some tree stands and later on we're going to be talking about and in my first time being able
to see the new vertical stands. It's been a work in progress for the past couple months
but we finally got some some first ones that we're going to get. So that'll be later on.
But we have this tractor. We're actually renting it. We bought a bunch of implements for the side
by side and broke all of them. Nearly all of them. So we had to go out. We're renting this. We have
two more plots to put in. One's maybe a half acre. The other one is about an acre in their first year
plot which first year plots really suck. Like you gotta you gotta mow them. You gotta clear them.
You gotta get all the junk out of it. Basically just trying to get down to bare dirt. So let's
get right into it. It's almost like we know what we're doing.
All right let's get this unloaded. So we killed this plot probably two weeks ago now. It is fried
dead. So we're gonna come in here. We're just gonna brush hog everything and then depending
on how much debris is on the ground we might have to run it over with the harrow pick it up or we
might just till it under. But I think we're gonna put a stand vertical right in this tree. We've had
a trail camera on this scrape right here. It's just a crossing. Had some decent bucks on it.
There's been decent bucks on it in the past. We got a rub tree scrape tree over there but pretty
much any west wind just blowing right over there is gonna be good. Step number two is complete.
I'm really loving how this plot's turning out. The design of the food plot was semi-intentional.
You know food plots can be really good but they can also be really bad. They can screw you over
in some situations. But we made it kind of all alongside the tree. It's kind of this long skinny
spot. There's a big ditch right here and we kind of flared it out on both edges but we made sure
that it was about 25 yards pinched down here. So hopefully deer enter the food plot. If they want
to move through it they're gonna want to you know more naturally I feel hug this edge rather than go
through all that thick stuff. You're already making it so why not make it in your favor.
So pinch them down a little bit put them in favorable spots. With the wind totally west
should be good. I'm getting excited. It's looking better than I thought.
New day. We pretty much ran it all the way till dark last night. We had a couple road bumps. We
had some road bumps this morning. We kind of messed up the trailer this morning. We forgot to
to latch it down and it's closed on it and now the latches are broke which is great.
So a little slower morning but this spot we call the power line spot obviously because
of the power lines. Riley look out for those when flying. Good call. But we have this really big
poplar tree off in the distance. I think this is going to be a great muzzleloader spot.
There's a buck we call mag 10 that's normally hanging out probably 300 yards this way.
He is here on the farm pretty much all summer. Last year had no photos of him all season and then
we put put some corn and a camera out after season and he showed back up. So I'm thinking
if we can put in this will be pretty close to an acre. We can put an acre food plot in here.
He comes back during muzzleloader season hanging out in this timber over here. Maybe we can pull
him this way but it'll be a pretty bulletproof spot. We're gonna hopefully put a vertical up
in that stand. It'll be a good just vantage point looking out here with a muzzleloader
or bow but we'll see. We'll see how it goes. We're gonna get ripping.
Mow this, till it, seed it. Should be good to go. All right guys it's been a couple days since we
put in this food plot. We actually got a really good rain last night so the seed's been just
sitting in the soil underminated dry as heck. We finally got a good rain so we're really hoping
that the seed survived a few days which it should have and now we got a good rain it's all in the
soil. So we're gonna put we got a vertical stand with us we're gonna hang this set kind of talk
about why we're choosing this tree and get this bad boy set up. We just happened to pick a tree
with tons of poison ivy on it which is great. All right pretty good there's some way up top now
that's solid. We're gonna work our way up there's this tree tons of cover it'll be really good it'll
probably drop leaves soon but there's so many trunks going up we're gonna get on this back
one and just kind of do shooting lanes through the trunks in this whole food plot. We got scraping
a rub tree over there scrape tree over here bedding this way bedding back over here we sit
with a west wind west southwest would be blowing in this just empty crp field kind of our only
option it should be okay if they're on this side of the creek. So let's get up here I'm excited to
see what it's going to look like. Rocking and rolling on the lease today got a couple vertical
stands we're gonna go put them out better late than never we've been ripping around all over the
place and we're just getting around to it a lot of bucks still hanging around after velvet so
that's a good thing but we are gonna put some stands out and tomorrow we're ripping back out
west so we're gonna let the farm sit for a while again and we're gonna hit hit Iowa super hot and
heavy end of October so I'm excited. They don't really eat this until it frosts something about
them being really bitter but as soon as it frosts then it kind of turns it on and something about
the sugar balance I think man this is awesome dude this is this gets me jacked I think we're
gonna put one in that tree right there yeah dude I like this a lot we got food all over here in
this little micro plot we got a scrape we got food funneling down this two track around this field
and we got another scrape in a camera over there good west southwest wind we're gonna be money in
this spot time to cut set number three for the day maybe the last one that we're able to do but
definitely want to do a couple more we're just running out of time but I like this one too
that's a wrap we have uh we have a decent amount of verticals hung we got a lot of other spots
planned out but we're just running out of time so the rest of them just gonna be hanging bangs
with them we got uh got some e-bikes this year and uh we should be able to make it pretty seamless
a lot of them are on field edges and stuff so we'll be able to get them hung just when we're
when we're ready to hunt but we got South Dakota this week meal deer and then uh after that we'll
be switching gears to whitetails so thank you all for watching catch you in the next one
