Ladies and gentlemen, this is Joe's Classic Video Games,
back with another cool arcade game
slash pinball repair video for you this evening.
We've been working on this baby Pac-Man machine.
It's half pinball, half arcade game.
And if you've been watching our previous video on this one,
we rebuilt the monitor,
we put a lot of new connectors on it,
we swapped the MPU board,
we played around with the video board,
we checked our voltages,
but we never could get it to coin up.
Can't get any credits on it.
Our switches are good.
And then, are you ready?
We think this might be the problem.
Dun, dun, dun.
So, rats have been in here doing all kinds of stuff,
eating the wires, using the bathroom.
They're not flushing the toilet.
They're not doing nothing.
They're just leaving it everywhere.
So, on this video, we'll see how far we can get.
I'm gonna try to patch these wires.
Those obviously need to be done either way.
I'm thinking that I've got wires sorting out somewhere
and it's affecting the switch matrix
and it's not wanting to coin up.
That's my theory.
Either way, I gotta fix the wires.
So, I'm just gonna keep ignoring
how I can't get it to coin up.
I'm gonna start fixing the wires
and I think I'm gonna clean the play field
because it needs to be done either way.
So, I'm gonna clean all the play field.
You know how we do.
Windex, magic erasers, paper towels, wax,
new light bulbs, new rubbers.
We're gonna get it all back together.
We'll fix the wires and then we'll see if it'll coin up.
So, I think we're just going to start on the play field
because I've gotta get this cleaned up a little bit.
But anyway, here we go.
Okay, so we got it cleaned up the best we could.
I mean, you guys saw what I was starting with.
This ain't coming clean.
I used up about 10 magic erasers.
I scrubbed it as good as I could.
So, at this point, I'm just gonna wax it,
put it all back together.
I mean, it's got a little wear here
and this won't get any cleaner.
I mean, I scrubbed the heck out of it.
Same deal up here.
You know, that stuff's pretty toxic.
That rat pee is toxic.
So, there ain't no sense in doing a little touch up there
whenever you got all these other areas
that is pretty much permanently damaged,
but you're not gonna be able to see this underneath.
Well, this one, that part you probably can,
but the saucers you can't see underneath the plastic.
So, we're gonna do the best we can with it.
This wasn't really even supposed to be a cosmetic deal.
The guy just wanted me to get it to play,
but you know how that goes.
So, time to wax it, put it all back together.
All right, well, I've got this kind of apart here.
I've cleaned off the wires a little bit.
I was originally just gonna splice in a new piece,
you know, from like there to there,
and somebody actually mailed us these.
One of the viewers mailed us these.
These look pretty cool.
You just stick the two wires in there and you heat it up
and it's got a little dab of solder there in the middle
and then it melts them together.
So, I thought about using those,
but I think the best way to do it
is just to replace the whole wire.
You know, they're only, I don't know, two, three feet long.
And I've got this tool here, this pin extractor.
So, I'm just gonna push it through here.
It's gonna pop the pin out.
I'm gonna replace whatever wire is bad,
put a new pin on it, put it back in the connector.
I may have to switch the wire colors around,
but it doesn't really matter.
They won't be the factory colors,
but at least they won't be ate up by rats.
So, we'll see what we can do with it.
Well, I got my connector all fixed up.
I've changed six or seven of those wires all the way.
Changed that one, this one, that one, this one.
And I had to use some heat shrink tubing on a couple of them
because they were daisy chained together.
I could have changed,
I had like a little nick in the orange one here.
Well, the orange one goes all over the place
to both the flipper buttons
and the flipper buttons on the play field.
Since it just had a nick right there,
I just used some heat shrink tubing
and soldered it together.
I tried to use these things,
but apparently I'm using them wrong
or don't know what I'm doing
or maybe I misunderstood what they were.
But basically I put the wires in there
like you're supposed to
and they fit in there nice and tight.
And I was under the impression I could heat them up
and the solder would melt the wires together.
Well, I heated them up and nothing happened.
The ends shrink down like heat shrink tubing,
but the solder inside never melted.
So what happened was after I got it heated up,
the ends were kind of melting.
And then after they dried, I checked it
and they just pulled right apart
because the solder didn't melt.
But maybe I just misunderstood.
But anyway, back to the rest of it.
You're wondering what I was doing.
I was taking all the light bulbs out
and you can use a shooter tip on these
and it'll grab the light bulb,
makes them easier to pull out
on the ones that are stuck in there.
I think I'm actually gonna take some contact cleaner
and spray down all these sockets
before I put new bulbs in them
because some of them are pretty nasty inside there.
I'm hoping I don't have to change a bunch of the sockets.
But yeah, I might have to put it back
in the cabinet pretty soon
so I can tell which lights are working and which aren't.
So that's next.
Well, this is starting to be more of a job
than it was supposed to be,
but isn't any job like that pretty much.
When he dropped it off,
it had so much dust all over the play field and everything
that it looked like the play field was in pretty good shape
because I could see the middle part.
I didn't even think to look down there
and up there for rat droppings.
So taking a little bit longer than I thought it would.
So I'm gonna have to change some of these sockets
because apparently the mom rat was living on this side
and the dad rat was living over here
and they probably had some baby rats
living all through here.
So I'm gonna have to swap several of those light sockets.
I might have to flip it over and unsolder,
unsolder in another one,
all that stuff that you don't usually have to do.
And if you're wondering about the wax,
well, it didn't look like Joe put very much wax on it.
Well, I actually did.
I waxed it a ton right before that clip,
but I forgot to hit record on the camera.
Can you believe that?
So just so everybody knew that I waxed it,
I went ahead and waxed it again just for show.
So that's why I didn't go crazy on the wax job on this one,
but you could tell by the sheen.
See that sheen, see that light?
See it?
I actually put a lot of wax on it.
It's got double wax on it.
Here's the proof.
You can tell by the lights.
But anyway, I'm going to swap some of these sockets,
and then at that point,
I'm gonna put it back in the cabinet.
Wham, bam, put all the stuff back on it,
and then I'll probably be about ready
to pass it off to Ronnie at that point,
but we'll see how it goes.
Well, somebody out there is probably thinking,
well, he said he's got another play field.
Why don't he just put the other play field in there?
Well, here's why we don't put the other play field in there.
See what's going on here?
Got a little bit of wear on it.
Not so much here or there,
but right in through here.
But we are gonna steal some of the parts off of it,
like we're gonna need these little kickers.
These are in a lot better shape on this one.
The other ones are rusted pretty bad,
and I'm going to steal some of these light sockets.
So there you go.
That's why we're not using this play field.
Here's the sockets we're gonna change.
We're gonna change these two, probably that one.
These ones in the corners are pretty bad,
and here's why we gotta swap these.
These are just terrible.
They don't move that good, real rusted.
All three of them are.
This is the main out hole, the kick out,
and this one is actually the worst one.
Look at all that.
So I'm glad he brought that extra play field
because that would have been a pain in the butt
if we didn't have extra parts.
Well, I finally got all the general illumination working.
I had to change all those sockets in the back,
and I had to change that socket there, too.
I also went ahead and changed the plates for the saucers.
There's one, and there's two, and there's three.
These ones over here were just destroyed.
That's the best one.
That's the second best one,
and this one here was just awful.
And this switch here was so rusted,
I basically had to break it to get it off.
So now that I've got all that done, finally,
I can start putting all the play field back together.
These two lights here are off still,
but they're not part of the general illumination,
I don't think.
I think they're control lamps.
So, time to put everything back.
I think it turned out pretty good.
That's the best I could do.
I didn't put the flipper rubbers on there
because I think we may have to swap these flipper backs,
and it's still got some issues.
The sound's not working.
We still can't coin it up.
I'm sure various switches and lights
are out underneath the play field.
But you know what?
Ronnie really likes to troubleshoot stuff like that.
And you know, I'm just such a nice guy
that I thought it would be very unfair of me
to have all the fun on this baby Pac-Man.
So you know what I'm gonna do?
I'm gonna let Ronnie take over at this point,
and I'm gonna let him have a whole entire video
just to work out all the kinks on this baby Pac-Man.
So, the next video you see on this thing,
Ronnie will be here, and he's gonna take over,
and he's gonna work out all the kinks, okay?
I have no doubt about it.
So, thanks everybody for watching.
We appreciate it.
We hope everybody's staying warm out there
in that blizzard that they're calling for.
So, we'll see you on the next one.
