Absolutely nothing beats the joy of afternoon tea. And what better place to indulge in this
quintessentially British delight than at London's oldest and most luxurious department store.
We're talking about none other than the Queen's grocer itself, Fortnum & Mason.
For more than 300 years, Fortnum & Mason has proudly stood at its iconic 181 Piccadilly address.
It's like a timeless anchor in the heart of London, welcoming generations of tea
enthusiasts and foodies alike to experience its charm and tasty treats.
It's three weeks before Christmas, and Fortnum's windows are like something out of a storybook.
They've decked them out in playful displays all crafted from cardboard and paper.

The store was filled with shoppers. The Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon is located on the fourth floor.
Since 2012, this tea salon has been the ultimate haven for celebrating the timeless tradition of
afternoon tea. It was officially inaugurated by none other than the late Queen herself,
alongside the Duchess of Cornwall, Camilla and the Duchess of Cambridge, Katie.
Stepping into the Diamond Jubilee Tea Salon felt like strolling into a slice of pure serenity.
The gentle tinkling of the piano set the perfect mood as we were escorted to our gorgeous table.
Now, all of your pots of tea are of course included and can be found in this menu here.
We have over 70 wonderful teas to choose from.
Saying that, you'll each all get a pot to yourself which can be changed once you have
the pot to your service. So you can start with your black tea, then change to a green or a new
long or whatever else you fancy trying. Finally, if you are interested in champagne, you can find
them in that tea menu. And then for our rest of our teas, Miss, what pot of tea will you be trying?
I would like the classic Earl Grey.
Are you an Earl Grey drinker? Yes.
Can I give you a recommendation? Yes, please.
I am also an Earl Grey drinker, so I'm going to swap those out to a Countess Grey.
It's got a slightly more heart citrusy profile. Oh, thank you.
So you can actually see the orangeness there in the strainer.
Ah, yeah.
We ordered two high teas and one savoury afternoon tea.
High tea is a more substantial meal, includes heartier fare such as meats,
breads and cheeses, and is usually served in the early evening.
Can't wait to dig in. The classic finger sandwiches.
Beautifully baked scones arrived with a generous silver pot of clotted cream and
Fortman's own strawberry jam and lemon curd. They're yours to take home, that is, if there's
any left. Here are the savoury patisseries. Who wouldn't fall head over heels for the
divine lobster cocktail mingled with chopped egg, all theatrically presented in an eggshell cup.
And the desserts.
And the best part, as with most afternoon teas,
is that you can replenish all these delectable treats at no extra charge.
The offering at Fortman's is truly a labour of perfection,
crafted with exquisite attention to detail. But beyond the culinary delights,
it's all about the atmosphere. That intangible feeling you just can't quite put your finger on.
Much like the rest of the building, the tea room exudes luxury and history,
yet it's anything but stuffy or pretentious. Instead, it radiates a sense of fun and celebration,
inviting you to savour every moment. Let's set off on a tour through this legendary store.
Established in 1707, Fortnum & Mason boasts a long history. Their afternoon tea is a
quintessentially British experience, blending elegance, tradition, and exceptional quality.
It's no wonder Fortnum & Mason's afternoon tea is often rated as one of the best in London.
