Located in Winkaveen, the Netherlands, Tiny Holiday Home seamlessly combines space efficiency,
luxury, and natural beauty into a harmonious design. This project was created by Chris
Kallaries and I-29 Interior Architects in collaboration with a team of skilled professionals.
Let's dive into this inspiring architectural masterpiece.
With a footprint of only 55 square meters and a total area of 75 square meters,
this home is designed for a family of four. Despite its compact size, the house exudes a
sense of spaciousness and luxury. It includes a living room, a combined kitchen and dining area,
an open patio, three bedrooms, one bathroom, and two toilets. The layout is designed from
the inside out, prioritizing functionality and maximizing every square centimeter of space.
Situated on an elongated island plot near a lake, the home is perfectly positioned to
embrace the surrounding water views while optimizing sunlight exposure. The building
is divided into four separate volumes, which not only enhance natural lighting,
but also provide unique panoramic experiences in every space. The layout fosters a seamless
connection to nature, achieving a delicate balance between interior and exterior spaces.
From the outside, the home resembles a modern piece of art. The combination of four distinct
volumes creates a dynamic appearance, with each angle offering a new perspective. To enhance the
sculptural quality, the façade design is kept minimalistic, with concealed rooflines and window
frames hidden behind wooden cladding. The rough pinewood façade complements the natural
surroundings, blending the home into its landscape. One of the standout features of this home is the
strong connection between indoor and outdoor spaces. Each volume is equipped with large windows
or sliding doors that can be fully opened, creating a seamless transition between the inside and the
outside. The central patio acts as a visual and spatial link, offering long sightlines across the
home. By sliding open the large doors in the kitchen and living areas, these volumes physically
connect, forming a spacious and inviting communal area. The interior design strikes a perfect balance
between aesthetics and functionality. Natural oak panels, either left untreated or stained black,
create a striking contrast with the polished concrete flooring. Custom-designed furniture
and integrated cabinetry enhance the graphic quality of the space while maximizing storage
efficiency. The interior is approached holistically, where architecture and interior design merge to
provide a harmonious spatial experience. Tiny Holiday Home serves as an ideal example of a
compact house that prioritizes efficiency without compromising on quality. Every detail is
meticulously crafted to achieve space-saving and energy-efficient solutions. With a design approach
that is both simple and smart, the project employs eco-friendly materials and efficient
construction techniques. This home demonstrates that sustainability can coexist with comfort and
aesthetics. This project proves that small is beautiful. Thoughtful design and attention
to detail can result in a home that is compact yet comfortable and inspiring. This tiny home
not only serves as a functional living space, but also as a model for efficient,
eco-friendly, and aesthetically pleasing architectural design.
