"Many orchid lovers don’t realize why their orchid grows long, thin, and weak until blooming completely stops. 🌱 I truly wish I knew this sooner.
In this video, I share gentle and practical orchid care tips for fixing a leggy orchid based on real experience. If your orchid has stretched growth, soft leaves, or looks healthy but refuses to bloom, this video will help you understand what’s going wrong.
Instead of forcing flowers or using strong chemicals, these orchid care tips focus on restoring balance. Step by step, you’ll learn how to improve root health, support stronger leaf growth, and fix a leggy orchid naturally so it can bloom again.
Hello everyone, welcome to my garden.
Today I'm sharing with you a very common situation often encountered when caring for orchids.
Two orchid plants crowded together in the same pot.
Therefore in this video I will separate one orchid from the old pot, stimulate root growth,
clean it, and repot it into a new pot to help the plant grow better, develop stronger roots,
and regain healthy green leaves.
Let's begin this journey together.
Looking at the two orchids being so overcrowded and leaning to one side, it's clear they no
longer have enough space to grow healthily.
Some leaves at the base have turned yellow, developed stem rot, and fallen off on their
own.
This is a clear sign that the plant is weakening and needs timely intervention.
Therefore we need to remove the damaged and rotten leaves to prevent the spread of fungal
diseases and at the same time help the plant stay more airy and well ventilated.
At this stage the root system is also clearly weakened, with many roots dried out, hollow,
and no longer able to absorb water or nutrients.
Therefore the immediate task is to cut off all damaged and dead roots, thoroughly clean
the base of the plant to eliminate potential pathogens, and help improve airflow around
the growing medium.
After pruning and cleaning everything thoroughly, I will proceed to separate these two orchid
plants from each other.
However, it can be seen that their root systems have been tightly intertwined for a long time,
so separating them will be quite challenging and must be done very gently.
After separating them, the remaining orchid loses its support, making it prone to leaning
and unable to stand firmly.
Therefore I will use a metal stake to secure the plant, helping it stand firmly in the
pot.
When properly secured, the orchid won't be disturbed, allowing new roots to attach to
the growing medium more easily, helping the plant recover faster and grow more steadily.
After that I will plant the remaining orchid in a new growing medium made of pumice stone
to help stimulate root development.
This type of stone has excellent aeration and fast drainage, keeping the roots dry,
reducing the risk of rot, and creating ideal conditions for new roots to grow vigorously.
By using pumice stone as the growing medium, the orchid can adapt more easily, produce
new roots faster, and recover its vitality better after being separated and repotted.

After that, I use coffee grounds as a natural fertilizer to help stimulate root growth for
the orchid.
I take 1 teaspoon of coffee grounds and put it into a clean jar, then add 3 tablespoons
of rice.
Coffee grounds provide a small amount of nutrients, stimulate the growth of new roots, and support
beneficial microorganisms.
Rice provides starch and B vitamins, helping orchid roots recover faster and become stronger
after pruning.
When fermented with 1 liter of warm water, the nutrients dissolve and become more active,
creating a mild solution that helps orchid roots absorb them quickly and safely, while
promoting more even new root growth.
Let the mixture steep until the water cools completely.
After the water has completely cooled, I strain the mixture to remove all the residue, keeping
only the clear liquid.
Next I add an additional 500 millimeters of clean water to further dilute the solution,
making it safer for orchid roots and easier for them to absorb during use.
After that, I stir the mixture well to ensure the nutrients are evenly combined.
Next I use clean cotton soaked in the mixture to gently wipe each leaf, both the upper and
lower surfaces of the two orchid plants.
Wiping the leaves helps remove dust, mineral residues, and buildup, keeping the leaf surfaces
clean and allowing the stomata to open better, thereby improving photosynthesis efficiency.
A small amount of minerals and vitamins released into the solution can be absorbed directly
through the leaf surface, helping the leaves become healthier and greener.
After that, I gently water this solution onto the growing medium, focusing around the base
and root area.
This watering allows the orchid roots to gradually absorb the mild nutrients, stimulates new
root growth, and at the same time, enhances the activity of beneficial microorganisms
in the growing medium.
I water just enough to keep the medium moist, not too much to avoid water logging, helping
the orchid recover and develop more steadily.
Next I place the orchid that was just separated from the pot into a transparent plastic bag
so I can easily observe root development.
At the same time, I can monitor the condition of the roots and detect early signs of rot
or fungal disease for timely treatment, helping the orchid recover better.
After that, I place the plant in a spot with gentle, diffused light, avoiding direct harsh
sunlight.
During this period, I mist it 2-3 times a week to maintain adequate humidity and prevent
the roots from drying out.
After one month of care, my orchid is still growing strong and stable.
A plump flower spike has emerged from the leaf axil, showing that the plant has recovered
well and is strong enough to bloom.
At the same time, many healthy new roots have appeared at the base, firmly attaching to
the growing medium, proving that the root-stimulating process and care have produced clear results.
As for the orchid that was separated, its leaves have become firmer and healthier green.
The flower spike of this plant has also grown longer and thicker, showing that it has adapted
well after repotting and is growing very steadily.
I gently lift the orchid out of the pot to closely observe the base and the growing medium.
At this point, creamy white new roots with clear green tips are clearly visible.
The roots are plump and firm, not wrinkled or dry.
The new roots are firmly attached to the orchid's base, showing that the growing environment
is suitable and the humidity is stable.
Now I will plant the orchid into a new growing medium made of pine bark to help the plant
stabilize and develop well in the long term.
Pine bark provides good aeration and moderate moisture retention, allowing the roots to
breathe easily and anchor more firmly.
After that, I continue watering and caring for the orchid using the coffee and rice mixture.
Maintaining this mixture at a light dosage helps stimulate steady root growth, supports
overall plant health, promotes greener leaves, and nourishes the flowers more effectively.
After that, I place the orchid in a spot with gentle diffused light without direct harsh
sunlight.
This environment helps the plant photosynthesize effectively, keeps the leaves healthy, and
supports the roots in continuing to grow steadily.
After three months of care, my orchid has developed exceptionally well and is very stable.
Plump flower buds have clearly formed, while the strong root system has spread throughout
the growing medium, anchoring firmly and absorbing nutrients efficiently.
As for the smaller orchid that was separated, it has already started to bloom.
The flowers are blooming beautifully, proving that the plant is healthy and stable, and
that the previous separation and care process has delivered very good results.
And with that, my journey of caring for these two orchids has come to a truly fulfilling
conclusion.
From overcrowded orchid pots with yellowing leaves and weak roots, through careful separation,
cleaning, root stimulation, repotting, and gentle patient care step by step, over time
both plants have recovered strongly.
This journey has given me even more confidence that with understanding, proper care, and
enough patience, orchids will always reward us with healthy growth and vibrant blooming
seasons.
Thank you all for taking the time to watch until the end of the video.
Wishing you good health, happiness, and orchid pots that stay lush and bloom beautifully.
