All right, dude. All right, dude. Our life's on add-em.
Oh my goodness. Duck down a little.
Watch out. Watch out.
Not too bad.
All right.
Left, left, left. Oh. Or go back.
There you go. There you go.
Nice, nice, nice.
Good thing we didn't go that way.
Yeah.
No, that would have been bad.
We would have been wedged in there.
Nice.
Yep.
Perfect.
Maybe this left one again.
Yeah, yeah. Go forward, forward, forward.
Yeah, you're good. Just straight.
Nice.
Hey, first cast.
I don't really want to get snagged yet.
All right.
I was going to snag one of these willows easily.
A little lake area.
Oh, it went down.
Actually, it's hard to see this line.
I should have changed it to my other reel with the actual Hi-Viz.
This used to be Hi-Viz.
It's completely white.
But once you get down, it gets yellow.
I can see how you had so much fun last time.
It was fun to navigate.
It is, right?
Yeah, it's so fun.
I feel like I'm fishing even though I'm not.
Yeah.
Yeah, it's kind of on you.
Yeah, it is.
It's kind of on you to put me on the spot, you know?
Yeah.
So, it is like ear fishing also.
I just nibble, nibble.
All right.
Go through this.
Oh, my bait's gone, actually.
Yeah, I feel like you did get a little trout bite there.
Yeah.
A little trout bite, probably.
All right.
Next rapid.
It doesn't look too bad.
Oh, it's so nice.
Yeah.
So vivid, the colors.
Perfect weather.
Yeah, it's actually not as cold as yesterday.
It's pretty nice.
Right side, right side.
I think.
Yeah, right side.
Yeah, yeah.
Back, back.
Nice.
Perfect.
Perfect, dude.
Mastered it already.
To the left.
Yeah.
Stay left, but then you're going to have to go cut right.
Yeah.
No, that left, that left.
Easy, easy.
Okay.
Yep.
Got him.
Straight ahead.
Yeah.
Sick.
This is like a really interesting flow right here.
It's like a ledge or something.
It's hitting a ledge and it's like making a little...
Okay, stop going over there, dude.
Oh, it went down.
Oh, oh.
I actually got a fish.
That was a fish, dude.
It was like five inches.
Little guy.
Little bite.
Hey.
Where is the mama?
Oh, oh.
Oh.
Hey.
That might have been on.
There's a lot of little ones here.
Yeah.
That's for sure.
First catch for me.
It's a stick.
Oh, yeah.
There's a hole, like little stick, big stick down there.
Looking at fish in here, it would be chaos.
Would you have to anchor it, you think?
Like in this kind of area, it seems like anchoring is probably the best.
Yeah.
Because you can't go to shore, so it's...
A lot of sticks and stuff that you're going to have to avoid.
Yeah.
All right, guys.
We are about an hour into the drift, and we've been fishing here and there.
No luck yet.
Just had some small bites from trout.
And we are about to go under our first log crossing.
So there's a lot of trees that go down during the storms,
and they create this just a dam almost sometimes.
And it's just a whole tree that's going across the river.
And this one, it looks like it's high enough
where we can kind of just get under it on the left side.
So we're going to try that.
Hopefully, everything goes smoothly.
It's always kind of nerve-wracking
because it always happens to be where the current is the fastest,
where the river is moving the most.
So if we get caught, there's a lot of water rushing,
and it starts coming into the boat, and then it gets a little hairy.
So fingers crossed we make it out safe.
The first tree we're going to have to go under.
I think we're going to make it.
It's just the angle.
Yeah.
All right.
Let's go for it.
Get as far left as we can.
Yeah.
Get control.
Yeah, if you can.
It's not like crazy fast here.
Yeah.
If you can whip it like that.
Yeah.
Boom.
Should be pretty good.
Yeah.
All right.
Looks good.
A little bit of deja vu from last year.
But with the combination of this more serious raft
and the river's experience.
Yep.
Barely.
You good?
I'm good, yeah.
All right.
Get your side through.
Oh, okay.
Yeah.
Get your side through.
I think this is about as far as.
Oh.
Good?
Yeah.
Okay.
Whew.
That was pretty close.
That's about the limit.
Yeah.
That was close.
All right.
Anything lower than that.
We're going to have to go around.
Yeah.
Or over.
Around or over.
That was fun.
Nice.
Hey.
First fish landed.
There you go.
Man, this guy is chrome, dude.
He's a chromer.
All right.
It should come off nice and easy.
There you go.
Clean release.
Didn't even touch the fish.
Okay.
Oh, you got one in the boat.
It's like in basketball.
You just got to see it go in once.
Yeah.
Just one time.
Just go in one time.
That's what happened last year.
Remember?
We started small.
And then we just started banging big ones.
Look at this.
Right here.
Shoot.
Oh.
I did have another one.
Oh.
Got one.
Oh, bigger one.
It's bigger.
Bigger.
Oh.
Drag is super tight because of that snag.
I forgot to loosen it again.
Oh.
Got another.
Bang, bang.
Couple in a row.
There it goes.
Quick release.
That was like 12 inch.
Got another one.
Got another.
Got another little guy.
Oh.
He's feisty.
That's a future steelhead.
We know there's big ones in here.
We know there are big ones.
We made a little pit stop.
Just a quick key break.
The whole thing?
Johnson made some pumpkin bread or something.
Pumpkin coffee cake.
Yeah, coffee cake.
That's what it was.
Coffee cake.
Oh, I see.
It's a weed.
What?
How is there a snag there after all this time?
And we're off.
I'm not taking my bait.
Better mess in with it for a while.
Got one.
There he goes.
Another small one.
We're using all barbless hooks, so they come off pretty easily.
And especially with these bigger hooks, they don't really hook the small fish very well.
They just keep popping off, but no worries.
We're just going to release them all anyways.
Alright guys, we're still looking for our first steelhead.
This spot looked promising.
Hey guys, we're going to take a little bit of a break and I'm going to make some lunch.
I just got some ramen.
I got shin ramen.
So I'm just going to make a little quick lunch and keep going.
Because we're only about 50% of the way there and it's going to be about 2pm.
So we're kind of right on track to get to the beach right around sunset.
So it can't take too long.
I'm going to get some water boiling and make some lunch.
I just got to relax a little bit for a minute, you know.
My shoulders.
All the straps are weighing my shoulders down.
So I'm just going to relax, take a break.
Alright, water.
I have these black trumpet mushrooms that I brought from the backyard.
We don't grow them, they just grow wild in our backyard.
So we have a very nice bounty.
I just posted a video about it the other week.
If you haven't seen it, check it out.
But they are delicious.
Alright, water is nice and boiling.
I forgot my chopsticks but I got some sticks off the riverbed.
Adam brought some pho.
It actually smells really good.
Black trumpet pho.
It's nice and dark.
Hey guys, real quick.
This Friday, January 30th, I'll be in the Pacific Northwest in Puyallup on Friday
for the Cross Current Film Tour hosted by Addicted Fishing.
There's going to be four creators creating 25 minute videos.
It's going to be Addicted Fishing, myself, Big Water Guy, and Fishing the Odds.
Four of us are creating a 25 minute long video to showcase in front of you guys
and you guys get to vote on which film is the best one.
So I would love your support.
If you can come make it this Friday.
We got tickets still available.
I know it's kind of last minute that I'm announcing this on YouTube
and that was my bad.
I've been pretty busy trying to film for it and edit for it and all this stuff.
But I have the film done.
I think it's an absolute banger.
So if you are able to make it, come through this Friday, January 30th.
I'll leave more info in the description below.
But I'm also going to Portland and Central Oregon on February 12th and March 7th as well.
So those dates are going to be available.
And if you want tickets for those dates, they are also available.
All the information is in the description below.
Thanks guys.
Would love to see you there.
There we go.
Lunch is served.
Some shin ramen with black trumpet mushrooms.
That looks delicious, no doubt.
No doubt about it.
Try my black trumpets.
I love these mushrooms because you can just add it to anything.
And I harvested these mushrooms almost a month ago.
Maybe, actually yeah, it's been about a month.
And just keeping them fresh.
And just keeping it outside.
The shin ramen, the spice just got to my throat.
Keeping it fresh and they last a really long time.
Unlike other mushrooms like porcini and bolete, just other, even chanterelles.
They don't last that long.
Even if you put them in the fridge.
But these last forever.
Well, not forever, but more than others.
Alright, that was good.
We are refueled.
Ready to tackle the back nine.
These chutes are my favorite part.
Here we go.
We're going to pull over at this spot and fish from shore for a little bit.
Because it looks really nice.
Get this bobber down right here.
Get this bobber down.
Right in front of the raft.
Come on.
Oh, it took it.
It took it. Alright.
Fair enough.
Well played.
I got him.
There's like a lot of fish in certain spots.
In some spots, there's like nothing.
Even when it looks good.
Adam just had one on.
He just had one on.
You want to stop here?
It was so chrome, dude.
That was a nice one.
Yeah, it was right next.
I didn't even know you were fishing it.
I looked down.
Honestly, I was just rowing.
Yeah.
Oh, there's a fish.
There's a steelhead.
We saw one.
Oh, man.
I looked back and it was under water.
I didn't see it.
It came tight.
I saw the fish.
Yeah, I saw it too.
It wasn't huge, but it was definitely chrome.
Yeah.
Maybe this is where they are.
One was hanging out underneath those.
Yeah, right there.
I didn't see my bobber.
I thought it had got hung up on those.
Yeah, you just snagged it?
Yeah.
I know.
Well, no luck at this spot.
We're going to have to keep moving.
Hopefully, that's the start of them.
We saw one.
Now we just need to hook some and land them.
Oh, man.
Man, that was...
Dang.
That was promising.
Just another snag.
Another little guy.
Oh, this one is very beautiful.
Hey, guys.
Well, it's not looking good.
Now, you can see this river has widened
to a very big, wide river.
And it's very shallow.
And there's not many pockets
where we can target now.
And it's going to be like this
probably the rest of the way
until we get...
until we're done.
We're about 70% through our drift.
At least.
Maybe even more.
But this is...
It's going to look pretty much like this.
So, it's going to be tough
to get anything from here on out.
Maybe on the spoon.
Yeah?
We'll see.
All right, guys.
It's starting to get dark.
I think our hopes and dreams
are pretty much over for this one.
Just this time.
We did a drift.
The first time we did it,
we got no steelhead.
Second time, we got a lot.
So, the next one.
Next time we do the drift,
it's going to be crazy.
Well, we are officially paddling
into the night.
And we should be there
any minute now.
It was a tough day of fishing,
but it's been a beautiful,
beautiful day regardless
of being on the river
It's been a fun day.
Can't complain.
All right, guys.
Well, it's going to be it for this one.
Thanks for watching.
See you on the next one.
Peace.
