Welcome to my channel
Today I'll be sharing with you how to grow orchids without soil
Orchids can thrive not only in soil but also in many places outside of it
I'll show you exactly how to revive orchids today using foam and hydroponics
There was an orchid in the pot Its roots were healthy—not just active but healthy
We will activate the orchid roots using this method
You can use this method for orchids with no roots at all as well as for those with weak roots or even healthy ones
As you can see I have two flower stems on the orchid in my hand
These flower branches have now shed their blossoms
I’ll share with you shortly how I’ll prune these branches and how they’ll come back to life
You must absolutely disinfect orchids before attempting such methods
If there's an insect or disease present it could spread so I'll clean and disinfect the orchid
I prepared 2 liters of water to disinfect the orchid
I'm adding hydrogen peroxide to 2 liters of tap water
Oxygen water has disinfecting properties
You can use hydrogen peroxide to disinfect your orchids if they have root rot or are diseased
I put just one teaspoonful of oxygen into two liters of water
Now I'm submerging the orchid's roots into the water
We'll let the orchid sit in this water for two hours
Thus the roots will be disinfected and softened
Then we will move on to our new method
I took out the roots of the orchid I'd been waiting two hours for and left them to dry
As you can see the roots have now been disinfected
Thus by planting our orchids using the new method we will also accelerate the development of new roots and leaves
Yes I'll use styrofoam for the new method today
That's the kind of styrofoam and a glass bottle I need
Look it's very thin however if you'd like you can also use the thicker foam ones
Now I'll carefully cut this into small pieces with scissors
That way we'll be using this instead of orchid soil
I've broken it down into small pieces like this Now I'll
share with you how to use this instead of orchid potting mix
I place the glass vase I need and the orchid's roots inside it then I'll fill it with foam
If you've watched this far please hit the like button and subscribe to my channel to support me
As you can see I'm filling the container so that the orchid roots are completely submerged in this foam
Yes I planted orchids in the flower bed
The key point you need to watch for is that orchid roots should grow outward like this and receive light
Look there are also roots at the bottom
Now we're moving on to one of the most important sections—the watering part
The watering section in the pot is important
Especially when watering we fill the orchid pot with water until it's completely full
That's because the foam inside the orchid must absolutely absorb the water thoroughly this way
Now since it's foamy the bubbles rise up when I water
So I'll try to fill it with enough water to prevent the foam from rising too high
After filling with water the other crucial tip is that we must always let it sit for 30 minutes—half an hour—during every watering
I waited half an hour
Look I specifically placed a weight on top of it
Because the bubbles rose to the surface they couldn't draw up enough water
Now that I've waited half an hour I'm going to drain the water from my orchid
When straining the water we won't strain all of it
For the orchid to thrive in this foam the pot must have a layer of water at the bottom exactly two or three fingers thick just as we do with standard sukul plants
The next layer of sponge will continuously draw water thereby supporting the orchid's growth
I've drained this much water already
Now I'd like to show you something more closely
As you can see here there needs to be this much water remaining from the bottom
We don't fill it with too much water
As with a regular sükül a thickness of three fingers is sufficient
Let me show you up close
These sponge inserts when left in water absorb moisture and continuously keep the orchid roots moist thereby supporting their growth
I'll prune the orchid's flower stems as the next step
since there were no flowers left one of the stems already
Mom look—there are only two flowers left and this one’s about to fall over
Cut just above the last node from which a flower emerged
We cut the node on the branch where the last flower appeared
I'll cut off this other pair of flower branches just the same
I'd like to show you right away
Look I'm cutting right through the knot
Knots are important because each one represents a flower branch for us
I sprinkle ground cinnamon on the spots where I've cut myself
Because dust cinnamon prevents the orchid's stems from being affected by any disease
It also prevents the flower branch from drying out
Yes I'm applying it this way to every cut I make
Yes I'll share with you the development stages of my next flower as they unfold
I've shared all the developments from Orkidem within the past few months with you
As you can see the leafless orchid has bloomed again
It has produced both new leaves and new roots
You are guaranteed to achieve results with this method
I applied this method again on another orchid
I applied a slightly thicker layer of foam here
As you can see my orchid has produced plenty of new flower stems
You can also grow orchids using many different methods
besides potting soil entirely depending on your preference
I'm sharing these methods with you only
You can grow orchids in regular potting soil or if you prefer you can use alternative methods such as hydroponics with these techniques
I hope all the points I've shared have been helpful to you
Thank you for watching this far
Goodbye take care and stay healthy
