Hi, I'm Trevor Dimoff, I teach music and band.
In this episode, your first five trumpet notes for band class.
The trumpet starts with your lips, all of the sounds start there, and then they go down
the tube.
Now the tube you can change using the valves, and each valve changes it slightly differently.
So what you're going to be working on first is the two basic notes C and G, those are
both open.
If you have any trouble with that, go to the mouthpiece, sing it, C and G.
This is all mouthpiece warm up.
From that, when you can get those two notes, we can start getting others.
Now the first notes are G, open, we're going to add one for F, add two, one and two, and
remember the valves always start with U, one, two, and three.
Open is G, one valve down, first valve is F, one and two is E, one and three is D, and
then open again.
So the pattern from G, F, E, D, and C.
Get out your trumpet, it's not already in your hands, and move along with me.
G, sing it, F, E, D, C.
If you can sing it, you can learn to find it with your lips.
Next step.
As long as you can get that high G, the rest will come out.
So you're adding valve, making it longer so the sound will go lower.
So those are your first five notes.
Sing it again.
G, F, E, D, C, and you can even practice your music just moving your fingers.
Remember there's more than one way to remember, we remember by seeing it on the staff, we
remember by hearing it, and we remember by feeling it in our lips and our fingers.
G, F, sing along with me, even if you don't have your trumpet.
G, F, E, D, C, next level with the trumpet.
G, F, E, D, C, next level with just the mouthpiece.
Gotta listen for it.
And then with the whole instrument.
Once you can get the notes like that, you can start making up songs and working it out
on your own.
I like to start on the low note and come down because I find that's easier.
You can also go up.
C, D, E, F, G, and then just make up some songs or pick a note and work down or up with
the rhythm.
Now, I've practiced a long time so I can do that on one breath, but other people might
have to, like you, take breaths in the middle, and that's okay.
Remember, if you ever get dizzy, just stop for a minute and breathe normally, and then
start again.
You can also get more interesting rhythms or more complicated rhythms when you're ready.
Remember, no puffy cheeks, because that makes it sound terrible and harder to get your notes.
And then when you can go down, going up.
And as you get better, you can move more quickly.
So, those are your first five notes for trumpet.
C and G, F, E, D. G, F, E, D, C. And there you have it, your first five notes for trumpet.
