Hello everyone this is your Sol teacher Thank
you for coming back to my Korean podcast
Are you all having a happy week
Today I've brought some common mistakes that students learning Korean often make
Today we'll look at some grammar and grammar mistakes
together The teacher will first say a sentence with an error
It would be helpful if we all took a moment while listening
today's podcast to reflect
together on where went wrong and why
Shall we get started right away
First the first one—
what's this in Korean
Where could I have gone wrong
Well what comes next
here I have no idea
I don't know what this is in Korean
You need to insert the particle here
When words like this appear you must use the particle grammar
What it is if you don't say it quickly becomes a mystery
I don't know what this is in Korean
Why don't you understand
this Why don't
you get it huh
This is so easy why don’t you know
I don’t know why but I just don’t get it
Oh I don’t know why I don’t get it
I don't know why but I just feel
weird but I'm in
a good mood today
Just add it like this
The second one is a word
It's a slightly awkward word
I enjoy doing various activities on weekends
It sounds a bit awkward when said by a Korean person
What word could it be
It's "activity "
This activity is commonly used at school
School activities refer to events conducted within the school premises
There's a club a student
council and also external activities
Extracurricular activities are things
you do outside of school Usually
they include internships volunteer work and helping out elsewhere
Volunteer work various contests and competitions
—these are all referred to as extracurricular
activities Therefore the term "activity" in this context encompasses such endeavors
I only use it for school and external
activities not much in everyday life
So I did all sorts of things
over the weekend I didn't
just do stuff like that—I really did a lot of different things
Or simply say "I went for a
walk on the weekend visited
a café and went to the movies " That’s all you need to say
I enjoy doing various activities when traveling
but that sentence sounds awkward
I just like traveling and doing all sorts of sports and
activities I don't like staying at hotels That's how it
works
That's good
The third one is I
work while sitting down
I work while sitting down
What part seems wrong
Sit down and change
"이으면서" to "앉아서 " Work while
sitting down
That's the correct body
positioning: sit stand lie
down or lean against something Work while seated
I'll watch TV lying down
I'll study
standing up Like this And additionally
please sit down sit down
It's like telling
a puppy to sit—just say
"sit" as a command I'm sitting like this
When talking about my
condition I need to use
grammar I am sitting I am
standing I am lying down
Sit down stand up lie down
You'd say these words when giving commands to a puppy or young children
Teacher says "Hey sit
down " only in this
way The fourth one is
to hang it at school
Where could be strange You
should say "walking from here"
instead of "walking here " We're
going to school How are we going
We'll walk there
You need to combine "walk" and "go "
That's how you construct the grammar
We just say "let's walk there" when we mean to go on foot
Run over Run quickly
When should
we use
walking versus running It
depends on the situation
Inside the school grounds
Running around at school
You shouldn't run at school
I have a treadmill at home
So I walk indoors instead of going outside
Walk from home
That's why whenever we're going somewhere
we walk there go on foot run there or dash over
You need to combine them like this
The teacher will explain this song a little more
How do you get to the company
We go by driving
If your friend is driving you
sit next to them in the car
How do you get to the
company I'm not driving
but I'm in the car In
that case I go by car
I got in the car
And we're off
I'm not driving
My friend is driving
I'm riding in my friend's car
We're going by my friend's car
Same here
I'm taking the subway
I go to work by subway
Taking the subway is fine too
Take the subway
Or else you're heading out on your trip now
The teacher could
ask How are you
going to get there What are you going to take
Are you guys going by plane
Are you going by boat
When talking about things like airplanes cars subways
and bicycles you say "I ride
it " That's how you do it
Next the fifth one
This one's easy
I never eat Hawaiian pizza
Never eat Hawaiian pizza
What's wrong with that
Easy right
Never eat Hawaiian pizza
You shouldn't put it in
I never eat Hawaiian pizza
But you know that "never" sounds a bit strong
The teacher rarely uses the word "never" at all
I personally love the word "absolutely "
I don't eat Hawaiian pizza at all
But what I really hate
truly and utterly is pickles
I never eat pickles I absolutely detest them
You can never use it in such a situation
If you'd like to say it a bit more gently
I actually prefer the word "iyae" a bit more
And it's really similar
to this doing absolutely nothing
Not acceptable
I'm doing nothing
Okay Next one is the
sixth I'll marry Soo-jin
Where could I have gone wrong
It's a preposition
Marry Su-jin In Korean it's
"i-ryang " "hago
" "wa " Marry Su-jin
Marry the patient
And another common mistake students make
Shall we see if you can spot it
It's similar to Italian and Spanish
Something's missing here
Here you should write "and" or "or" instead
It's similar
to Italian and Spanish
It's the same
too Japanese and
Korean are different
Or it's the same between you
and me You and I are the same
You and I are exactly alike
That's how you should enter it
Alright next the seventh one
There are many cherry blossoms in Korea
Where could I have gone wrong
You need to change "Korea" to "Korea" in the sentence
There are many cherry blossoms in Korea
Because there are so many adjectives
It's not an action it's a state When
used as an adjective
you must use "eul "
It's similar to that—there aren
't many people at the restaurant
No way There are few people at the
restaurant Is it cold in winter
It's cold in winter
That's because it's time just time
Winter time it's cold in winter
Okay Next eighth I've
been feeling strange lately
Strange
Yeah I know
It should be "It's strange" rather than "It's strangely " The form
"-고 있어요" is used only with action verbs not with descriptive verbs
Adjectives describing states cannot be used
I'm feeling sad right now
No I'm sad
I'm sad right now
I'm happy right now
No you can't
I'm happy right now
Next the ninth one
The ninth one is
I read a book and go to bed every night
Where should we fix it
You must have no distractions every night
Every night I read a book before bed
Alright everyone
Every night every day every week every year without fail
Every Monday every Tuesday every weekend
If it's there every month I don't write it down
And also not today not yesterday not tomorrow
I don't write there on weekends not even today
So you need to memorize the cases where 에를 is not used
You know this right
Good you all
This is the last one number ten
My mother is sad because I haven't gotten married
Alright we need to change "슬퍼요" to "슬퍼해요" here
My mom please be sad
My dad you're sad
Me you sad
Just like this I want to watch a movie
My mom wants to watch a movie
Oh my dad I’m so happy I got a job
I’m truly happy
You can write it this way
That's great
How many did you get right everyone
It wasn't too hard was it
The mistake I just mentioned is a common one among
students learning Korean but it's not a major error
Even tiny little mistakes like these—when you make them
we can still understand you
when we're talking as Koreans
I can understand that
But just in case there are those who really want to master perfect Korean
Since I've been preparing today's podcast
I hope my video today has been helpful
We'll conclude today's podcast here
See you again next time teacher
Thank you
