This little big shot is the youngest pianist ever accepted into Juilliard.
Here's eight-year-old Anwen. I'm Anwen. I'm eight years old and I'm from New Jersey.
When I play the piano, I feel like I'm in Music Wonderland and you ignore all the stuff around
you. I am the youngest to be accepted to the Juilliard School. I'm getting better in music
and I'm always really excited when I'm walking around at Juilliard to have my lessons.
Music is my life. When I can't play the piano, I feel like I've lost my best friend.
I'm super excited to be on stage for Little Big Shots.
Millions of people love music. Just think about what joy it can bring to those people.
From Cherry Hill, New Jersey, here's Anwen. I'm glad to see you too. Welcome to the show.
Is this your first time on TV? It's my third time. Third time on TV,
but never on Little Big Shots though. Juilliard, this is really a big deal. That's like
like the best music academy in the world. You get accepted there at six. How did that happen?
My mom recorded my playing and she sent it to the Juilliard School. After a few days,
we got the email that said that we were invited for the live audition.
Were you like nervous about that, to go to a live audition? Not at all. Not at all? I guess
you're six. Nervous about what? If you pick me, cool. If you don't, cool. Yeah. So how long have
you been playing? I've been playing piano for five years. You eight now? Yeah. Oh, you started
playing when you were three? Yeah, that's correct. Oh, that's good. Yeah, I counted. I do. I still
do finger counting. Yeah. I didn't do well in school at all. I didn't get accepted anywhere.
I've been asked to leave several schools. So do you write your own music? Yeah, I wrote
several books of pieces. What? Several books. You can't just throw that out.
You wrote several books of pieces. Is it all classical? Yeah, I only like classical music.
Yeah, I like, you know, classical music too. You know, Bordachoff and Belikovsky and
Bonds and Nobles. Do you ever play rock and roll and stuff like that? I never play rock and roll
because... Because what? Because it's too, like, too strong for me and every time I hear the drum
beat, my heart seems to come out of my body. I've only played one, like, pop and roll, sort of like
pop and roll piece, that's Placito. How does Placito go?
You like, see, you like that. I don't know the words, but I only sort of know the tune of it.
Oh, you don't know the words? No. Placito, everybody wanna repeato. Everybody wanna
know the way it go. But I say, come on, Placito. Hey, that's all I got. So what are you gonna play?
I'm going to play Japan Fantasy Impromptu, Op. 66 in C-sharp minor.
You know something? That is my jam. Hit this pan, C minor, 66, treble clef down and bust that thing
off in that C. Girl, I'll be up in there, I'll be hollering, going, what, what, what? Yeah, yeah.
Placebo, ask what you know. Everybody wanna say, honey, let's go. So let's go. Let's see some more.
Let's watch Ann-Wei get on the show. Gonna do your thing. Play that thing. Put the piano on
up and do the same. We about to get it. Everybody know, who wanna see Ann-Wei on the show?
Well, everybody, she was three years old when she started playing the piano. At the age of six,
she was the youngest pianist ever to get into the Juilliard School in New York. Give it up for Ann-Wei.
