These merino wool socks are $29 a pair and sadly every single one in the coyote tan color
failed at the toe. These highwell merino wool boot socks are $24 a pair
and I have been cold weather testing them for two months.
Hi, I'm Mike with House on the Mend and Highwell sent me three pairs of these merino wool boot
socks for odor strength and comfort testing. So let's get started. Well it's a cold 25 degree
morning. You can see my box elder trees are all turned beautiful colors and the leaves are falling
off and we are unloading insulation for the basement. So perfect day for a jacket, gloves,
wool socks, and nice thick boots. So here are the three colors they sent me. Black, gray, and
olive drab green. Really nice packaging. Let's open them up and take a look inside and get a
look at the socks themselves. So you've got the branding up on the top
and down by the toes. Then you have all this extra cushioning down here
at the foot. But don't take my word for it. Let's look on the inside. That's where everything comes
clear with socks. Yes. All right. So I see lots of dots up on the top section here around the ankles
and up on the shins. That's a lot of nice protection. And then look at the what they call
terry padding all along the foot and the toes and up the Achilles area. That is a lot of nice
cushioning. Let's take a look at how they did the ending here where they join it together.
That looks fine. If we take a look on the back here you will see care tips for lasting,
cushion, and comfort, cold wash, low dry, no bleach. Now I don't see anywhere on here
what the percentage is of merino wool. But in their original communication with me
they said they were 53% merino wool, reinforced nylon blend, a spandex stretch fit,
and then terry cushioning. So maybe all of that together makes up 100%.
Now I live in the very cold climate of Utah. But whether it's summer or winter,
I wear wool socks all year long with my heavy boots because I'm outdoors a lot. I wear
protection toed boots, be it composite or steel. And I also volunteer with my county search and
rescue. So I'm outdoors a lot throughout the year. And these had been my favorite
socks. I have them in black and this coyote color. But for some reason,
the coyote color wears through right at the seam here of the toe. And I've sent several of them
back and they're pretty good about replacing them. But for whatever reason, this loom here
had a bad habit of that. And it's not like I have like eagle talon feet that are all nasty or
something. I clip my toenails pretty regularly, but they just seem to wear out right there. So
I'm hoping that this joint here that looks somewhat similar will not have the same issue.
The first thing I noticed was how easily the socks went on. Sometimes the quote
compression support and stretch fit hype translates in the real world to hard to put on.
Day one started with a search and rescue demonstration at a local high school,
followed by a pretty rugged hike with Maverick.
Chilly morning, frost over everything. I'm glad I'm wearing wool socks.
Day two was spent moving a horse trailer from the previous night of my daughter's barrel racing,
setting up corral panels for a temporary round pin, and various other chores. All right,
this is the morning of the third day. Smell test. Nothing. Juno, do these smell? No? Good.
Day three was Thanksgiving, so I spent the morning clearing the front walkway
and cleaning the backyard before hosting family. All right, day four. Good morning. Nothing.
Little hint that my feet have been there, but nothing else. Now my socks may have looked great,
but my boots needed some attention before heading outside for barn chores.
Morning of day five test. No odor. It's a go. On day five, Aspen and I went to the store to get
some horseshoes for an upcoming boot rack welding project. Then I spent the day cutting and doing
some test welds. That night we went downtown for the annual Main Street Christmas lighting
celebration. End of the fifth day. I'm calling this experiment. It wasn't until day six that
I felt it would be uncultured to continue wearing the same socks. Leave a comment if
you've ever worn the same socks for five days in a row by choice. Now personally,
I never put my wool socks in the dryer. Instead, I hang them up to dry. All right,
day one of our second round of testing and with the little washing machine smelly goods.
This would be an excellent test of how long these hold up now that they've been washed.
Does it make me dumb that I'm only now realizing there's a left and right sock?
All right, future editing Mike wants you to know in my defense my other socks have
the size so both are an L or that they are American made or merino wool but it really
is only these that have a left and a right. We're out here canine training in the snow.
The only thing that's not cold are my feet. Did you find him? Did you find him? Yes you did.
Good boy. Good boy. Do you have your toy? Yes sir. Give it. Yes sir. Good boy. You did so good.
Good boy. Then it got really cold. Look what a beautiful overnight snowstorm did for the valley.
So nice and I'm thankful I'm in wool socks. Now each successive days of testing these socks had
the same results. The odor control is outstanding which is a benefit of wool socks. Now these on
the other hand came with a pair of wool leggings and they only last for two days which tells you
there's not a lot of wool in those. Now I have been testing these since Thanksgiving of 2025 when
I received them and the poor company's probably wondering what in the world is taking two months
to test wool socks and the reason is I was so bummed with those coyote color grip six socks
all failing at the toe that I wanted to thoroughly test these not just for odor and comfort but for
durability and they did great as you can see in this picture here. They held up great with only
the slightest signs of wear at the toe and also the seam is clearly above the toe which gives me
a lot of confidence. Now to be fair the grip six socks have a lifetime warranty which I have tested
and the high well socks have a 10-year warranty but I was getting frustrated with paying ten dollars
in shipping them back to the manufacturer to have them replaced only to wind up with the same amount
of socks I started with. Now if you're wondering why I only tested the black color it's because my
daughter Justice and her boyfriend Colton who do a ton of camping and hiking came home for
Thanksgiving and immediately snatched up the other two before I'd even unwrapped them. So if
you found this video helpful and you'd like to convince Highwell to maybe send me a couple pairs
of socks to make up for the ones my kids pilfered, would you please give this video a thumbs up?
Also please consider subscribing. I work really hard to make good quality tour views as well as
home improvement content and I would love to attract more outdoor and work clothing companies
to the channel. So anything you could do would be very appreciated. Now I'm going to leave a link
for Highwell's very attractive looking website so go click on that in the description below and
peruse through to see if there's any good sales or what kind of socks they have to meet your needs
and I'd also like to thank Highwell for their patience in waiting for me to put out this video.
Until next time, thank you for watching.
Hey, it's not real.
It's just a statue. These Highwell merino wool, boots level, boot size,
one of the many benefits of wool socks. Let's get the elm out. Okay, so almost. To maybe send me
another couple pairs of socks, would you please give the please and I'd like to thank them for
sending these socks to my review for my review. That was almost perfect.
