Hello and welcome back to Piggy's World. Today's video is going to be about the pros and cons of
owning guinea pigs. This is a collab with Woodlands Animals, so go check out their channel and their
videos. So let's get on with the video. We are first going to start out with the pros.
Guinea pigs are all different in their own ways. Guinea pigs can be adventurous, shy, energetic,
smart, and so many other characteristics. This is what makes them so awesome. No two guinea pigs
are alike. Guinea pigs are herbivores, which means they love to eat veggies and hay. They don't eat
meat, so it makes it easier on the stomach. You eat healthier with all of the veggies that you buy
and put inside of the fridge. Guinea pigs are great to have because they are caged animals.
They are not like a dog or a cat that wander around your house. It is great because you can
choose when to hold and interact with them, unlike cats or dogs. This might make them easier to handle.
Unlike hamsters and gerbils, guinea pigs live four to eight years. That is an amazing lifespan and it
is a commitment. Guinea pigs become part of your family and they are in it for four to eight years,
which is a long time for a rodent. This is what makes them great. Guinea pigs are so gentle and
sweet. Once they open up to you and are tame, they will come up to you in the cage for some pets or
even some food, and they can even lick your fingers. They love to snuggle and just be loved.
Now here are the cons about owning guinea pigs. Guinea pig visits can be pricey. This is because
they are exotic animals. Guinea pigs are also prone to illnesses, so they can get sick more
often than some animals. Make sure you have a vet fund put aside because it is very important.
Guinea pigs are messy animals because they poop a lot. Guinea pigs can poop 10 to 20 poops an hour.
That means that the cage is going to get messy fast. Guinea pigs also eat hay and the hay can
follow you everywhere. You will find it in your laundry and even in your car. Guinea pigs can take
up a lot of space in your room. This is because they need a big cage to run around in. You also
end up with a collection of guinea pig items such as hideys and food, which also needs a place.
As stated before, guinea pigs are messy animals and can also smell after a while if you don't
keep up on their cage. Their cage needs to be cleaned often or else you will definitely get a
smell. If you keep them clean, they are not likely to smell. Guinea pigs can be time-consuming. You
always have to keep up on cleaning their cage, feeding them, and making sure they always have hay
and even interacting with them. They can take up a lot of your time, but it is totally worth it.
So that is it for my video and I hope you enjoyed. Make sure you go check out Woodlands
