Make every shot easier for you any player of any level can do it's gonna help you and you're gonna love it
How did that not go?
Let's talk about putting let's talk about a place in putting where you can actually make up some strokes stop wasting them
You can actually gain strokes. That's a big term strokes gained. You'll be surprised where you can find them on the putting green
I love asking players college players professional players actually players of any ability
Point out a 30-foot putt on the screen
Notoriously, some of them will look at a cup that is so far away. You would need a telescope to see it
That's clearly 30 feet, but it's way more
What I want you to understand first and foremost is what a 30-foot putt looks like. I think you'll be surprised
It's not from here to that cup. It's from here to that cup
This is 30 feet and it is a lot closer than you think it is
Why is 30 feet important because on the PGA tour in the LPGA tour if you to putt from just outside
This distance and yes, that's probably 30 feet and 6 inches
But if you to putt you're going to start to gain strokes on the field now
You're not going to gain an entire stroke, but little by little you're going to be bettering the other players in the field
Oh and for what it's worth. I have a lot of 30-foot putts
I do not hit the ball next to the flag all the time
And by the way, the professionals have a lot of 30-foot putts to usually on par fives
And can you imagine when you hit a par five and two how happy you must be if you three putt at this distance?
That's where they start to make up strokes to putt from here on a college level and a tour level means
Birdies that you can put in your pocket and keep walking forward
So what are some of the keys for a 30-foot putt?
I'm going to offer you two and then I'm going to give you a way with your stroke to try and train and regulate it
One thing you don't want this putt to do is to start on a line that would get it going low of the cup
All that means is as the ball gets towards the hole. It's going to be getting further and further and further away from the cup
Secondly you want to try and roll the ball to the cup or just slightly past
That way if you pay attention
You can see what the ball does as it comes to a rest
This will give you an idea of what your comeback putt is going to look like
I've set up a little scenario down here. Very simply. I've got a stick beyond the hole
That's about a putter length back from the hole and I've got a stick just below the cup on the low side
When I practice this I want to hit a putt
That finishes in this zone in this two putt zone because I feel fairly confident
If I can putt this putt, I've got my line. I like that. I like that
That's where I want that ball to finish up
That is an easy to putt that will help me gain some strokes on the rest of the field when you practice this
Take those two other golf balls that come in the sleeve and see if you can do that three times in a row
If you can test yourself on uphill test yourself on downhill
This is a little left to right test yourself the other way
now
How can you get good at this? I'm going to give you a very very basic cheat code that will help you control your distance
It's quite simple
Control your follow-through if you will learn to pick a spot where the putter is going to follow through to
Your mind and your brain will build in the end of it
I'm going to show you what I mean as I get set over this ball. I'm going to set my follow-through
Just past my left leg
So the rest of this putting stroke has to gauge the distance for me
I don't want to rely on trying to putt fast or soft or hit it firm or try anything crazy
I want to rely on my natural ability and develop a stroke that truly looks like a pendulum
I'm looking at the spot that I'm trying to roll the ball to I'm making my practice stroke
That's telling me how far back to take it as I get set up here
Just a hair short, but I think I would take that
Why don't we try hitting one more just to see again? I'm going to look at the spot
I'm rolling it to I know where my follow-through is going to stop. I've got my eye on it
I'll take that and for those of you that didn't think it was 30 feet 5 6 7 8 9 10
11 that is just outside 30 feet
It's a lot closer than you think so technical wise control your follow-through and you will learn to control the speed of the putt
training wise
Set yourself up with some parameters. You got to finish at the line of the hole or
Just a little bit past if you can do that and get those golf balls three of them in
That little zone of two putt
I think you're going to be very happy from outside 30 feet
Which for me and for you means a lot more happiness on the golf course
