Hello I'm Yoo Seung-hwan from Talk2Me Korea
Today we're visiting one of Korea's most
famous tourist attractions—Gyeongbokgung Palace
You might have been there before but Gyeongbokgung
was where the kings once lived and worked
It's like the White House in the United States
Oh the traffic light just changed
That's why I'm heading to the subway now
I'm currently at Hongik University Station and the
place I need to go is here—Gyeongbokgung Station
One two three four five six seven
After seven stops transfer to this orange line at Euljiro 3-ga Station
One two three
You'll need to go one more stop after that
I guess I should take the train toward Shinchon
You must take the train from Hongik University Station to Sinchon not the one going to Hapjeong
I just got off at Euljiro 3-ga Station
See the sign saying "Transfer Point
" and the arrow Just follow that
We're almost at the platform for Line 3
It says Gyeongbokgung
I got off at Gyeongbokgung Station The
closest exit to Gyeongbokgung Palace is Exit 5
So I'll try exiting through exit 5
How to find the exit
First you need to find the number
It's written here
Exit 5 says to go right and
it also says Gyeongbokgung
When you exit through exit 5 this is what you'll see
Wait a minute
There are this many people even on a weekday
I thought I'd feel a bit empty that's all
There are many Korean tourists and it seems there are also plenty of foreign visitors
Everyone seems to be waiting for something
Everyone's standing here and it looks like something's about to start around 10 o'clock
That's why we're all waiting around like this
I've just arrived at the ticket office and I'm standing in line
waiting The line is incredibly
long and there are so many people
Hello One adult please
Cash okay
Thank you
Actually how late are you open here
Those entering can do so until 5 PM
Is entry still possible until 5 PM
The alarm is set
for 6 a m Understood Thank you
I bought one ticket
Now I'll go inside
You're completely clueless aren't you
When you look around there are so many people dressed in traditional hanbok
and there's a reason for that
You can enter Gyeongbokgung Palace for free when wearing hanbok
That's why I paid 3 000 won to get in
You can enter here without paying the 3
000 won fee if you're wearing a hanbok
That's why you can see many people wearing hanbok when you visit Gyeongbokgung
This is the largest building in Gyeongbokgung Palace and
likely the image that comes to mind first when Koreans think of a palace
is something like this
It looks like this inside
Since others should see it too I don
’t think we should stay in one spot
too long I recall there was a lake over there if I remember correctly
Let's go take a look over there
Can I take your photo
Let's gather for a moment
One two three
I'll take it again horizontally
One two three
Yes here it is
Looks like a middle schooler—since they only had selfies I took a
photo for them Seems like they 're
on a math field trip probably
Just past the large building Geunjeongjeon on the left you'll find
this small park and pond It's also
a fantastic spot for taking photos
As you can see many people are already standing here
There's a pond here
and the willow tree over there
You fit in perfectly here
Shall I take a photo for you
Shall I take a photo
of the two of you
Please hand me your phone you two and I'll take the photo for you
Yes here you go
One two three
You'll be really satisfied with how beautifully the
photos were taken Please come
visit Gyeongbokgung Palace
You really can't just go without seeing the main building—please
make sure to come here in person
I'm sitting on the bench resting when suddenly I
remember the snack I brought
earlier in case I got hungry
Did you know about
this A colleague who visited Bali brought
some back for us It's incredibly delicious—truly amazing
It's like I ate everything while the other colleagues didn't get a thing almost
It's really delicious
I'm going to eat two
I picked it up after it flew away
These mornings are cold
afternoons are a bit warm
and evenings are cold again
The temperature in Seoul this morning was 7 degrees
It's now 17 degrees
The difference between the
highest and lowest temperatures in a day is called the daily temperature range
The temperature swings have
been really extreme lately Be careful not to catch a cold
As you can see I was wearing an outer layer just a moment ago
You've already taken
off your coat so you
should always remember to bring it along
Still the weather is best
these days—perfect for
being outdoors Too cold
in summer too hot in winter
It's too cold in winter
so this moment is perfect
Now let's step outside Gyeongbokgung Palace
I'm thinking of heading toward Gwanghwamun Square There'
s something worth seeing there
too—a very large bookstore
There's a statue of King Sejong
and Admiral Yi Sun-sin
here so let's go check it out That's how we exited Gwanghwamun
As soon as you emerge you're greeted by these tall buildings
And ahead this open space stretches out
It's Gwanghwamun Square
I'm waiting for the signal
You don't want me to take pictures
Just now a security-type person came over and said
we couldn't shoot so I
briefly turned off the camera
At that time police motorcycles
and black cars drove
by apparently a very important person was inside
I asked the bodyguard too who is
he But he said he couldn't tell me
Wow sunlight
I applied sunscreen this morning
and it feels like a great choice
I think my face might have gotten a bit sunburned if I hadn't put on sunscreen
Here stands a statue of King Sejong
King Sejong was the creator of Hangul
Thank you for creating Hangul
Right here next to it you can see the Korean consonants and vowels written like this
You can read it all right
Oh the sundial
These days people probably won’t know how to read this
It's currently 11:43
It's not difficult Here's how to read a sundial
I'll let you know
next Can I pass through here
The babies are really going to love it
As you pass King Sejong's
statue and move closer toward
Gwanghwamun Station you'll now
see this figure—Admiral Yi Sun-sin
Anyone from Korea would surely know this person
This is the turtle ship invented by Admiral Yi Sun-sin
It's called the turtle ship because it's shaped like a turtle
You can't just casually stroll through a performance like that
When you arrive at Gwanghwamun Square one of the
first things you'll easily see is this police bus
The reason is that there are many protests at Gwanghwamun Square
So if you look there
you'll see frequent protests There are police buses aren't there
There are many protests so there are also plenty of police
When you think of Gwanghwamun another well-known spot is this Kyobo Bookstore
Kyobo Bookstore is a bookstore
It's one of the most
famous spots near Gwanghwamun It's very large
and since it's connected to a
subway station it's easy to get to
Exit entrance
This is the exit door
This is the entrance door
And since we're here
let's look for our book
Toktum Korean Books
Let me search for a book here
Here it comes
Here it comes
Stock: 5 units This means there are currently 5 copies available and
pressing print will initiate the output
That's how it is The Korean
books are currently from G0
to E and G is right here
Since I'm standing right here
Go straight and turn the corner—you should be
able to find the book
there G Foreign Language
It seems to be in the foreign language section Korean is
my native language but to someone
learning it it's a foreign language
The Korean textbook
is right here
The book I recommend
to you is this one
It's not our
book this is it
May everyone find
good owners and live happily
I just overheard the bookstore staff talking and apparently
Korean-language books are selling
well which made me feel happy
Read and study as much as you can and buy plenty of books
Hello Do you need subtitles
No it's fine
Are there any members from the education union No
I'll just assist with the payment
The room rate is 420 won
Where did you park
I didn’t park
I’ll get your card and bring it over
Yes
Thank you
I bought a book because I felt like reading
It's lunchtime now so
I should get something to eat
I'm hungry
I'm packing a sandwich
to eat by Cheonggyecheon
I had planned to eat the sandwich there
I happened
to find a kimbap shop It looked so delicious that I'm
thinking of changing
my order Kimbap
is priced at 4 000 won to 5 000 won
There are various options available up to 6 000 won
Hello
Is this
one You're eating it before you go
No I'll take it with me
Thank you
I bought a kimbap to go and came to
Cheonggyecheon I'm
going to eat it here
Gyeongbuk-gu is located
just a short distance from
Gwanghwamun Square all the way to Cheonggyecheon
It's really pleasant to stroll and take in the surroundings
There are many offices nearby so
many office workers also come here for a walk after lunch
You can see it quite often
The menu item is
Edam Cheese Kimbap
What is Edam cheese
Is it a type of cheese
The cheese has a slightly salty taste
Cheonggyecheon is pleasant both during the day and at night
It's great for walking and perfect for sitting and chatting but one
downside of Cheonggyecheon is the
mosquitoes which can be a bit bothersome
So really tiny little bugs
But originally this was a road they say
Now water flows here like this
Back then it was a road where cars used to pass through
This water flows beneath the road
Now we've removed the roads
and can see Cheonggyecheon like
this which seems like a good
thing In just a month or two
I can't go out and eat like this—it's too cold
You should come out often when the weather is nice
The pigeon is flying around
Eat some bugs pigeon
Eat a lot of bugs
