Hello, everyone. Good morning. Winston also says good morning. He's down here.
I'm actually headed out right now to my parents' house,
so I'm filming this on my phone quickly because I am doing a makeover for them.
Today's video is kindly sponsored by HomeGoods, and every single item you're going to be seeing
in this room makeover is actually from HomeGoods. I've been kind of sourcing it for the past couple
of weeks because it's one of their gifts this year for Christmas. I actually gave them a
redeem a room makeover ticket, and they are redeeming it already on a space that
has kind of sat vacant in their house for like three years. It had a pool table in it for a
while. Now it has like nothing in it, and it's just a space that's been overlooked,
but it's a stunning large room that we can totally turn into a nice space. I think it's
going to be a room that my mom can enjoy in the morning time, get ready in because it's right
next to her like closet area. Also, my dad can use it kind of as a game room. This is a very
budget-friendly transformation, and I'm going to be doing a little bit of an install on the walls
as well to add some paint and some color because my mom loves color. So let me share with you guys
some of the pieces I've already found over the past couple of weeks, and then we can head to my
parents' house and get started on this transformation. Look where I'm at this morning! Bright
and early. I got here first thing in the morning, so I can be the first pick. Okay, I found this
really great chair, and I love the shape of it, the color of it, and also the fabric is really
nice. It has like this really soft velvet, and I looked at the price. It is such a good price, $2.99.
So many lamps! Oh my gosh, but I'm really gravitated actually towards this green one.
It's just so cool. I love the enamel-esque finish, dark green color. It's also one that you just
charge, so it's wireless. You can literally move it around and use it and then just charge it again,
which is cool. But I saw over here that HomeGoods has lampshades. How great is this? Some of them
are so cute. Look at this. This pleated lampshade for $14.99. Fabric, so cute. And then I just found
the best curtains. I love it, and this is like what the curtain looks like. This is the curtain
pattern. You can kind of see them hanging here. $59 for a set, and they're kind of like a velvet
material as well. Everything else seems to be more solid, and then stumbled across this little set.
Oh look, there's another one right here. I love this print though, and I think it's gonna be
perfect for my parents' little den area. Look how cute this storage bench is. It is fully upholstered.
It has a wavy scalloped edge on the bottom, and it's $1.99. And check it out,
you can even open it, and there's storage in there.
I just found such a good rug. It almost feels vintage to me, like the way that it's constructed.
I know it's not. It's like a just a woven rug, but it really has such like a vintage quality to it,
and it kind of almost feels like an animal print mixed with like a pixelated abstract. And the
colors in here are really nice. They're like kind of a mossy green, some tones. This one's actually
really pretty too. It's just a simple ivory, but this one I think can be really great. It's also
a 9 by 12, which is kind of the size I'm thinking for that space. Look how cute these are, you guys.
They're these little like faux pom-pom puffs, but they're in, not pom-pom puffs, but like little
florals, and I got three packs of them. Look at all these little decor bits I've been finding.
So I got a really cool piece of art with these swans on it. Found this horse statue, which I
think I could probably use on the back of the sofa. I want to do like a sofa table, and then I have
these little plaid cushions, which I feel like fit the vibe that I'm going for so well. And then I
found this mirror that I love. It kind of reminds me of a vintage French style mirror, but for a
fraction of the cost, only $69. I just found the best sofa for the space. My mom has always wanted
a Chesterfield sofa like this, and this blue color is so gorgeous. It's so comfortable too. Look at
the price. $6.99. Mom, what do you think? Do you like the couch? I actually do. Yeah, it's so cute. I like it a lot. I like the color of it.
Go test it. Give it a test. Isn't it comfortable? It's so cute. It is. Look how many finds I got
today, you guys. The couch, this little console, which could potentially go behind the couch or on
the walls and media console. Also got all of this in here. Look how many pieces I got.
All right, it is time for a tour of the space we're going to be making over. And this is a
large portion of my parents upstairs. As you can see, it sort of overlooks the downstairs,
which is down here. It's really beautiful. There's so many windows. Basically before,
there used to be a large pool table in here, which actually came with the house. So the pool table
took up the entire portion essentially. So everything that's around it is kind of what
lived around it beforehand. And I did do a previous little corner transformation over
here for them where I did a little gallery wall and kind of added a chair and a little,
it was like my dad's like reading area in the morning. And he really loved this little spot.
And you can kind of tell that there's a pool table here because the light is very, very
reminiscent of like a pool table light. I actually think it's so cool. It is like copper. If you can
see the detail on this, I was able to find like some great pieces, a big sofa, some chairs,
tables, and just everything to like, make it really nice and cozy. But we're also going to
be doing a nice little wall install. Also, it's the only area we can really add some paint and
color. We have a stopping point right here, which is really nice. As you can see, there's this little
jut out. So we're actually going to be paneling from here over to here, which will be our stopping
point. If you wondered where all the world's false eyelashes went, they're actually right here
on this table. Okay. We're going to start. There's some people sleeping right now. So
I'm trying to be a little quiet. Essentially, I need to figure out how high I want my molding to
go, my paneling to go. I'm going to start by doing all of the top sections first. I've done this
multiple times in the past, and I found that when you do the top first, you can then cut the lengths
appropriately. But if you do all of these first, sometimes you stack the top on and they're just
like a little uneven. So I like to do it that way. It's kind of nice that my parents' house
actually does not have baseboards or any molding. It's like a house built in the late 80s. It's
Mediterranean style, but it also has some very modern-esque vibes as well, if that makes sense.
So I think this is going to mesh really nicely with the space. For the boards that I'm going
to be putting on the wall, I'm using these 1x6s that are pre-prime MDF. And look how stunning
my parents' view is from their house. That's why they live here. And I am going to be applying
these just with a brad nailer, and I'm cutting them down to the size. Now, of course, everyone's
walls are different. I'm going to attach a piece to the top that's going to be the top of our
paneling, and then also add one to the bottom, sort of to act as a baseboard or the bottom of
our paneling. And then we can add all of our vertical sections, just measuring each one and
spacing them out in between. Okay, I have my first little set of squares over here, which gives me a
good look at kind of what this paneling can look like. And I love it so far. These are nice and
even. I actually just ended up going with the height of the width of this wall. So that's how
I was able, basically this wall is 57 wide. I did it 57 tall for my paneling, so it made them
perfect squares. And I'm going to follow the exact distance between these ones for the rest of the
room. The thing I also love about paneling is you can get really creative with it. You can do
different shapes. You can do different styles. You can have your horizontal sections a little higher,
and that way you have a rectangle at the bottom and kind of like a shorter rectangle at the top.
So you can adjust the shapes and kind of the ways that you do it. And you can also customize it to
go around windows and different sections. So I love being able to add molding like this because
it really is customizable. And also it's pretty forgiving. You can fill a lot of cracks, you can
fill a lot of holes, and the paint is really what's going to transform it in the end and really make
it all come together. With the boards on the wall like this, I kind of have more of a craftsman feel,
but I'm going in with some molding pieces that I'm going to be mitering and actually putting into
every single one of these boxes on the walls. On the left, you can kind of see there's trim pieces
in those boxes, and on the right there's not. This is just going to create more of a French-style
like wall panel molding or like a more traditional style paneling. And I think it's going to look
great in my parents' house because their house does kind of have that Mediterranean, European-esque
feel. It was up until 1am the night before cutting all of these little miter sections to put inside
of these squares. This gives you a little bit of a better view of what I was talking about. So I cut
all of these on the saw, and then I glued them in individually. I decided not to actually use nails
on these because I didn't want to fill all of those holes as well. So then after I added and
glued in all of my little molding pieces, I went back in with filler to fill up cracks and holes.
Hello everyone! It is day number two of this transformation. I've been working away today
at the paneling. As you can see, we are pretty far along. All I have to do now is just put little
topper pieces on, which I just went and got at the hardware store. They are basically just these
little one-by-twos that I'm going to place on top, kind of like this, just to kind of give it
like a little top-finished-moment look, you know? I filled all the holes and gaps around the entire
room this morning. I have to wait for it to dry, and then I have to sand it all. So we're going to
wait for that to happen, sample some paint, and get the paint up on the walls. Also, the curtain
panels. I'm just so excited to put these up from HomeGoods. Look how good these look. Super excited.
I picked up a piece of one-by-two that I'm going to be adding to the top of this paneling just to
kind of give it a little bit more weight on the top. I think it really adds a nice finished look,
and this is a one-by-two just giving a slight bit of projection up there. And again, I'm going
through now and sanding all of our fill spots and getting it prepped for painting. It is finally
time to paint! This prep work has taken me like six hours today. I started this morning at eight.
It is now 2.30, and it's time to paint. I picked up a gallon of paint at the hardware store,
and I got a deep burgundy color, which I think is going to be so beautiful because my mom really
loves that color. She kind of hinted at me that she wanted the same kind of tone of color that I
used in the bathroom makeover that I did in my office space, if you recall. And I want to do a
little bit of a deeper, kind of more redder tone. That one was kind of on the verge of like fuchsia
in a sense, but not actually. It was just kind of a little bit more pinky. This is going to get two
coats of paint, and I cannot wait to see how this transforms the space. It's a perfect color!
It'll get, it'll go more brown and a little darker. So my mom saw the color in the space because she
was the one that kind of picked it. She really wanted a burgundy tone in here, and after I did
my recent makeover in my office bathroom, if you saw, she really was obsessed with that color,
was always telling me how much she loved it. So I decided to opt for a color called sommelier,
and it is sort of like a wine red burgundy shade, which is perfect. My mom really loves jewel tones,
and my dad, he doesn't really care about the design of the space. He's one of those people
that he, he appreciates it. He loves all the designs I do in the house, but he's not someone
that's like, I want this and I want that, whereas my mom really, she like kind of directs the design
a bit more. Good morning everybody! I finished all the paint touch-ups this morning. I have a
little paint on my shirt. Disregard! I'm so sorry, but I am so excited for today because we are tying
this room up, and I'm spending all day today just bringing everything in from HomeGoods that we
picked up. This space is entirely going to be decorated with HomeGoods. I do have the curtains
though that I'm so excited to put up because look at these curtains with the color of the wall.
I think they're gonna be so fun. For this window, I actually got two sets, and each set of curtains
came with two panels, which is quite a good deal, honestly. So I'm gonna put two panels on each side
just so they're a little wider because this window is a little larger than most. I already feel like
this is looking so good. I need to step down. Typically, patterned curtains like this are extremely,
extremely expensive, and I also feel like they've become a lot more popular lately, so I was super
happy to find this pair. And then I decided to raise the light that was in here. This came with
the house when my parents bought it. It's like a copper pool table light, but I think it's so cool,
so I just raised it up higher, and it is just a great light in the space. So I got this rug at
HomeGoods, of course. It is a great woven style rug. It's super, super soft. I had to figure out which
orientation I wanted to put it in here because this is a 9x12, which is a pretty large rug,
and I love that you can find sizes like this at HomeGoods. And then I'm going in with my sofa
that I got. This is like a Chesterfield style. It has a super soft, almost like chenille velvet in
the sky blue color. And my dad was away, but my mom was kept on trying to get a sneak peek.
Oh my gosh, Drew. That couch is everything. That is like the centerpiece. It looks so good
with the dark colored wall. Do you like it? I love the curtains with it. All together,
everything in the room. Okay, this is your only sneak peek you can have since you helped me bring
up the couch. It's beautiful. It's so pretty. I love it in here like that. Yay. I brought the
couch in the space, and wow, this is a lot of color for me. I'm not going to lie. Normally,
I kind of stick to a more minimal color palette or like pops of color, but I'm loving the direction,
and I think some of these more kind of natural elements are really going to help ground the
space. So I'm bringing in this console here, which has a wood base and a marble top. It
actually kind of coordinates with the coffee table I ended up finding from HomeGoods as well.
My dad actually just ordered a new gaming TV kind of setup that's going to fit perfectly on top of
here. So for this video, I'm just going to style the console for the time being until that TV
comes in, and then they're going to pop it on top of this console. I got these chairs, which
actually are in this kind of green faux leather, which I think is a beautiful color. But something
I thought could also be so fun is that I can do the bottom cushion in kind of the chair base here.
I always could pop in just like a throw pillow up here to give it a little bit more contrast
and texture. So like this one's a nice velvet one, and I think that that actually looks so nice. But
I think I'm actually going to keep the original leather cushion on this one just because I don't
think we need much more contrast in here. There's lots going on, so I kind of want to keep this
chair solid. And then we have another one of these that's going to be going over on this side. Okay,
I'm going to stop saying everything I got is from HomeGoods because you guys just know at this point
that every single item in this room is from HomeGoods. So I got this floor lamp that has a
woven shade, and I love the shape of it. And I also got this mirror that has rope on it. It kind
of reminds me of a French just kind of mid-century style mirror. I've had ones like these that range
upwards of like $1,000-$2,000 in my vintage store before. And I feel like you kind of think of this
mirror as more coastal, but I just sort of think of it as a texture, an overall texture. I think it
also kind of plays into the western-esque aesthetic that was really kind of on trend lately. And I
actually added this lampshade to this lamp. It came with a different one, but I love the pink
velvet on the connoisseur-style base. It just feels so elevated. I just brought up the coffee table,
and how good does this look in here? This is a marble top coffee table. Again, more natural wood.
I love the darkness of this wood as well. And I also love this circular shape in here because we
have lots of kind of more boxy shapes, including the light fixture. Let's add a little bit of
styling. I have a pot with some flowers and a couple other bits. I could give these a bit more
of a proper shushing, but... A really lovely vintage-inspired find as well. Like this horse
statue over on the right, it almost feels vintage, but it was $49. Such a great price for this piece.
And then I also got this art that has some swans on it, and I think my parents are going to swap
a TV onto this once they get it. And then over on the couch, I added just a bit more pattern
because we're having fun in this space and playing around with color and pattern. I'm going to add
just a couple finishing touches to the space. I have a cool tree that I'm going to be putting over
here. It actually already came in a pot, but I got this great wicker one, which is so stunning. It's
a pedestal wicker planter, and I'm just going to place this directly inside. And I love the shape
of this tree. This is looking so good. I love the direction. I love the colors in here. I was getting
a little nervous, honestly, putting some of the pieces together. I've been shopping for these
pieces for around a month, and I've gone to literally eight different home goods to find
all the different pieces here. So I've just been kind of reminding myself each time what I've gotten,
what colors they are, and everything just looks so pretty, which I'm very grateful for.
It is time to reveal this space to you, and I am so excited. This is definitely a different space
for me. It's so much more playful, full of color, pattern, texture. And I think my parents, especially
my mom, is going to really love this space. This is actually going to be kind of like my dad's
game room area too. So I definitely feel like they're going to be utilizing this space a lot.
And my mom's seen the couch and the rug and the walls in this space, but she hasn't seen any of
the styling or anything. My dad's actually not here right now. He's helping my brother move.
So I'm going to reveal this space to my mom just to get her reaction and share it with you guys,
because I think she's going to absolutely love it. And I am so excited for you guys to see her
reaction. So let's go grab her. I've been fine tuning everything this morning, filming the final
clips, and let's see what she thinks. Mom, come look. She's over here.
Oh my gosh. I cannot believe these curtains are so good. I can't believe that you put these
curtains like that here. This looks beautiful. Curtains the most in the whole room. They look
so beautiful. I love them the most. Oh, and then I like the mirror a lot too. I love this. This is
the most prettiest color too. I hope you like it. No, I love this. This is so nice. This is a
beautiful color. This is so good. I love all the different colors in here. It looks like you're
meant to live here. I feel like it's so much better than what we started with, wasn't it?
Well, it's just kind of like, what would you say this room was before? It was just like a
catch-all, right? Oh my gosh. Yeah. Well, kind of, we had some weight equipment in it and yoga mats
and yeah, just different stuff. And so now it's usable. It looks so much better without that TV up
there too. Remember it was up there in the corner? Yes, so much better. I agree. It's a billion times
better and I love this too, like the pop of color. My mom was also talking about how she didn't think
I'd be able to fit chairs or a coffee table. She was talking about how small the room was, but when
you use furniture properly and all these pieces are also from HomeGoods, by the way, which is your
favorite store, which you know. I actually love HomeGoods. I mean, a lot of people love HomeGoods. I know. I don't know.
It's such a good place to shop for home stuff. If you use furniture right though, you can actually
make a room look a lot bigger and you can kind of realize how many people you could actually
fit in here. Probably comfortably put like six people in here if you really wanted to
and it's so nice. Yeah, it looks so nice. Drew, I love the lamp too. I know, isn't that cute? It's a velvet, you know?
I added that because HomeGoods actually has different lampshades you could buy. I think this
is so pretty and it kind of picks up all the colors in here, but the best part I think are
the curtains. I love them. This is, who would have ever thought that it could look like this now,
honestly? Yeah, I'm so happy you like it. Yeah, no, this is definitely by far the nicest space in the house.
It's gorgeous. Every one that you do though, you keep outdoing another one, you know? You already
did the kitchen and the bedroom. This is like gorgeous up here. Yay! So happy you like it and I
love it, so I'm gonna be hanging out in this room when I come over for sure as well. Drew, I love it.
Thank you so much because I know how much time it took you doing this and I heard all the sawing
and all the cutting and everything going on, so I totally appreciate it. Of course! Yay!
Thanks so much to HomeGoods for sponsoring today's video.
