Gardeners, it's time to replant the succulents we decapitated to give them a complete restart. At this point, they all have new root systems, and the best part is that despite being decapitated, they're full of new pups. So, it's time for succulent surgery and planting them in fresh potting mix.
Let's talk about all the benefits we can gain from repotting a succulent
Yes gardeners in today's video we're going to discuss all those favorable aspects
When we prune our succulents
I'm Daniel Aparicio and we're at Jardineando Jardineros
What do you think about starting right away
So gardeners let's dive into another delicious experience
I think I'll take off my gloves because I'm not feeling quite comfortable handling the succulents
I was already filling the pots with growing medium so I could plant and reseed these succulents
In the introduction I mention that we'll be discussing the benefits that succulents offer when we restart
We've already discussed this topic when we did the decapitation but still gardeners it never hurts to mention it again
bringing this topic back up now that the succulents already have a root system is going to be more interesting
So when should we repot a succulent to restart its growth
Gardeners when will it be two or three years before we notice the succulent has lost its vitality and can no longer thrive
Or when we notice that the succulent no matter how long we care for it and nurture it simply refuses to produce offsets
So gardeners that means we have to restart our succulents
In past experiences in years gone by I practiced this method which yielded very positive results
So gardeners if you're watching a succulent that isn't growing at all one that's completely stopped growing
a succulent that we've been trying despite our best efforts to save from some root system infestation
The most sensible course is to completely decapitate and restart
All these charming elements we're seeing here were decapitated to restart
So gardeners it's time to plant them but first let's talk about all those benefits
For example look at this one—see the root system it developed so clean absolutely no pests
No problem for its development since from this point on at 100% at that speed I'll say
One benefit of propagating succulents this way is that the rosette will double or even triple in size
Rest assured gardeners The stem
we've topped will thicken further meaning a much larger rosette
When we have highly developed rosettes very large rosettes the succulent will begin to produce offsets
It had not yet generated there by the time of decapitation
I'd like to show you our Antares—one of our signature agave varieties the flagship of our collection the renowned Antares
This Antares gardens shaped by natural circumstances or altered by our own hand has been restarted many times
In nature gardeners remember at Casa Aparicio many of our succulents thrive outdoors
I've told you that the cattle the cows the bulls—they often eat the succulent plants out there
In that attempt to eat they pulled him away from the succulent substrate and there too the cycle restarted
When I arrived I noticed the succulents scattered around Casa Aparicio their root systems completely dry
Then the succulent also resets there
When we intervened bringing these agave plants from Casa Aparicio we removed the soil from around the roots to make transport easier
From those days to now I've noticed our Antares has come a long way
A little while ago I told you when we decapitate it the rosette will double or even triple in size
When a rosette is huge it's already quite substantial in size and it just keeps producing offspring nonstop
Look at the proof right here with this Antares
These little gifts we're given are already ours—over many seasons they've been graciously bestowed upon us
But this season has been the one where he's given us gifted us countless little ones
I've already taken out one here another there—I've pulled out about four babies from this Antares so far and we still have more
Look here gardeners there's a baby I think we'll be removing shortly
Here we also have another one and I'm not sure where I was looking
So gardeners this would be one of the benefits of repotting our succulent
They double or triple their size and give birth to many babies
Now let's get back to gardening
Those would then be the benefits regarding the succulent 's
rosette which will double in size and produce offsets
Now we have a much more important benefit for these beauties
Gardeners succulents often fail to thrive due to issues in their root systems
Not only will the succulent help curb portion size as that nutrient deficiency might also play a role
because the soil may no longer provide the minerals the succulent needs to thrive
There's another issue far more dangerous for gardeners
I think that's the word
Having pests like scale insects or something more serious such as nematodes in the root system
Many times gardeners experience such issues that cause our
succulent to fail to grow properly or stop growing altogether
And let us go to the extreme so we don't lose our juicy harvest
So when we perform this practice of resetting
we will completely eliminate any pests
We'll remove any such issues present in the root system When
we pruned the root system there
were likely some pests around
Remember that we haven't checked
the substrate yet We've
left the cuttings in the pot By the way they've already sprouted
But now that we're planting these little beauties look at the
lovely root system each of these seedlings has already developed
We're starting from scratch These succulents are going
to come back to life These
succulents are going to revive
These succulents are going to double or even triple in size
And the best part about this whole practice is that we won’t have any pests whatsoever
So gardeners we've discussed the benefits that come
from restarting a succulent by decapitating the rosettes
All of these have root systems so it's time to plant them to
encourage growth and reward us with countless more seedlings
Now we'really going to head into space where we'll set
up our substrate and arrange each of these beauties
Just as were about to plant each of these seedlings
take a look at what we've stumbled upon
Gardeners it's truly beautiful to witness this kind of behavior in succulents
Even though the rosette had no root system to nourish these little ones
just look at what happened
I remember when we decapitated them they were
tiny but look how much those little ones have grown
Dani where have those babies been getting their nourishment How have they managed to develop
From the rosette gardeners and the mother
But as they've grown so extensive look— they've practically covered the entire trunk
And I was talking here with my Drick—can't we just plant it like this
Because if I place the cutting on the substrate it will rot
So what we need to do is carefully remove those babies
The same thing happened here
Here we already have a root system but over here it was completely filled with babies
We've already removed them all look these babies right here
Gardeners truly succulents never cease to amaze me
Miren three six seven babies like that just leaving them there to rest until they develop a root system
They noticed that succulents are among those tough plants Despite
having directed energy toward developing a new root system
They have also provided energy for the babies to develop
Thanks to this behavior we've had many babies
Look here there are babies there are babies here I've also removed babies this way
So gardeners this process hasn't stopped
It has benefited us greatly
So let's go with this one
I think we should stop filming here because I need my Drid's help—I have no idea where I'm going to slide the blade in
It's really tight in here We're going
to have to remove all these little ones
I'll remove a small piece and then it'll be easy to take out all the babies
Gardeners we're here with the procedure for this surgery
I've had to remove a few leaves and now I'll carefully position the blade so we can safely extract it
They did it gardeners—look at this perfect bloom
Behold these colors this is the stunning Black Seoul
Beautiful
That's why I tell you gardeners that delicacy and patience play a crucial role in the process of growing succulents
In this process of practicing this art we
must be extremely subtle and delicate when handling these delicate creations
If we suddenly veer off that way we'd already have lost that rosette and that's exactly what we don't want
We need as many rosettes as possible to stock up our little shop
This one here will now be much easier to remove even though I've damaged the root system a bit over there
Oh gardeners it's really tough
I'll go see where this little one is coming from
We're right in the middle of this juicy surgery
That would have been a good title for a gardener wouldn't it
Succulent surgery
Oh my God You have to get out
Oh no this can't be happening
Yes he came out gardener Came out perfectly look
I thought I'd already messed it up but here it is
We'll remove these little roots The plant 's
root system is already a bit damaged
We'll try to do it very
carefully Okay that's it
Indeed we carefully remove this sheet from here
Alright check this out—we've already cleared this section The main
trunk is clearly visible now and this part is going to be really easy
I truly love this utility knife gardeners
It's an extremely slim blade that we can maneuver into tight spaces like this one
Look another one popped out
Very pretty with the little trunk still intact
Let's go with this one I think we're going
to have to sacrifice these pages though I'm not sure really
It's just a matter of getting positioned properly and making the cut
In any case those leaves will be consumed during this development
process Look gardeners we'really making great progress
I'm surprised gardeners I said there was bound
to be at least one rosette that got damaged but no
They saw that it wasn't so
This one really worries
me Look how tightly packed
it is We'll have to carefully remove a few leaves
Sacrifice let's say We 're
going to sacrifice a few
leaves Well then let's get started
They're tough Look here there'
s a root system right over here
We’ll try not to damage those little roots so they can immediately sense the growing medium
We’ll also have to sacrifice this leaf
As soon as they feel the foundation they will grow in ways they can't even imagine
A ver
It has become moist
We truly feel like we're in the midst of a delicate surgical procedure here
We've become doctors ourselves gardeners
Succulent doctors
What I'm missing is my assistant She should be helping me
out with what we need for this
I'm already flying gardeners
I'd believe even a doctor
Another beautiful baby We're up to five
now gardeners
But this Black Seoul went too far
It went too far
Despite lacking a root system it has still
developed its offspring They saw
A little bit more
Alright I think that's it
Another baby
I can't believe it gardeners that everyone is getting out unscathed
This one here will be easy too since I've already seen it
The little trunk
Perfect
Another beautiful baby
Let's move on to this one
I also think this one will be easy
Yes please no
The last one—there I don't think were wrong
Look It came out
perfect
Where else That's all
Oh poor thing
Look at how this Black Seoul has turned out
Completely deformed
But what matters is that it has a root system
And once we have the substrate this will give it the boost it needs to grow
Seriously where are the little roots we saw
Yes gardeners I don't know where the roots are
Yes perhaps in this very movement it has shattered its roots
Here it is
I'm not sure you can see it
There are tiny roots among these dry leaves
So we just set it down like that and this will give the swelling a boost
How many babies have we harvested
One two three four five six seven
eight Eight little gardeners
How lovely our Black Seoul is and look at those beautiful
colors Gorgeous
This one stays for our little shop and we'll only plant these
We've already gone through this process with several others we haven't
shown you yet For example we've also removed this from the Bloody María
Bloody María gave us countless babies One two
three four five six seven eight nine maybe ten
Now that we'ready gardeners let's move to where we've
prepared the planters and place each of these beauties
We already have the pots ready with the substrate we prepared yesterday
It's time to place our succulents which already have a root system
There are real gardeners out there and I'm absolutely thrilled that these plants are in good hands
These succulents these decapitated rosettes once they feel the substrate
The river rose higher than they could ever have imagined
I want to start with what's most important—some agavoides that hold deep meaning for me
These ones here look at this beauty Just take a look at this
stunning creature Those colors—
this is the true beauty of Mexico
Beautiful beautiful It already has roots which is what
matters And that's
all we'll do—just place it
My hands are full of hair because I brought their bed from Paqui and Antares
That's it just like that and it's done
Important gardeners during this time I've been cultivating succulents
the growing medium must have at least a finger's width of space
so that when we water it the substrate doesn'
t spill and when the succulent begins to grow
We could achieve better control over handling dry
leaves or holding babies when she grants us the chance
What if I plant right at the edge of the pot
When we'ready to hydrate we'll pour the substrate
What if I plant too deep
Gardeners we won't be able to carry out those
maintenance tasks easily We're going to have trouble
We'll also make it difficult if we try to remove some of the babies
Therefore I believe one finger is appropriate
Let's go with another Mexican
Check out this beauty
This root system gardeners
Oh no no
But what a darling little root network over there
And so now what are we going to give this space They don’t
know how it’s going to unfold Ask
me about it over there and say
Dani we think the pot is way too big
Gardeners no
It's the perfect size for our agaves
I'll take advantage of the opportunity to remove these dry leaves
And so I think we'll leave it at that
Look at that root system
No way gardeners I can't take any more of this incredible spectacle
Very nice beautiful
Let's go this way and pose
It turns out absolutely gorgeous
Look at this one
Out of all these I love this one but the gardeners really nailed it
Look at those colors Look
at those beautiful leaves Even
though as I told you we've
been having very cloudy days
days of heavy rain
days when the fog practically blankets us entirely
they are keeping those pigments
Very pretty
Now where should I put this one
In this pot
And it would look like this
It's very nice
No no
It's not properly centered
We need to center it properly as well
Make sure the spaces on both sides are equal
so the rosette has enough room to
develop nicely Okay
The first plantings remain little garden patches
Let's set this aside for now
This part here
I think the video is going to
end up a bit too long so tomorrow
if I have time I’ll organize the space where they were working
I'll show you how each of these beauties is arranged
I also remove these dry leaves
All of them have root systems
They all have root systems gardeners
So they're practically new plants already
I love this agave variety because the spines are so sharply
defined Let's see if the camera captures the spines clearly
Among all the agaves I have this is the one with the longest teeth
A madness succulent gardeners
Alright
We'll do the same with this one
This process is quite simple
We do it this way
It would have been planted yesterday
but you know we're busy with other delicious pursuits here in Villa Lindura
I'll take advantage of cleaning it before it
rehydrates Once these cracks have rehydrated
It's going to be a bit tricky to handle it the way I'm handling it now
I can do it now because the leaves are slightly dehydrated and pliable
So let's get to it gardeners and give it that little tidy-up
Very beautiful
This is a Romeo we received from Madrid Spain
Very beautiful
When he arrived he was burned out from the frost issue but he's already recovering
What about the next one
This one here
Poor thing
Look how our Black Seoul has turned out
I'm also going to plant it in one of these pots
That's all for now
You'll soon see how it's going to unfold
From those very places where we've taken the babies may they once again give us more babies
I think we've used smaller agave or succulent plants for these pots
Here I have take a look slightly wider and larger planters
These are the ones where I'll place the giant ones
This is the Bloody María
We're just going to set it up like that
And you'll soon see how Bloody María is going to unfold
We have three Bloody's
They realized the Bloody's are also incredibly prolific After this planting after the
work we're currently doing they're going to develop in ways you can't even imagine
I'll put another Bloody here
I think I'll need more planters like these for those giant succulents
For example this is the
Echeveria Agavoide Rojaya Let 's
place Rojaya right there
Like this Very beautiful
And this giant one too
Look at those beautiful colors this agave has
This agave plant is a gift from a friend of mine from Arequipa Kevin
Alright
Look at this beauty wonderfully
We have three left
I'll go find some succulents from our collection with larger rosettes
We're going to need larger pots gardeners The thing is we have
a lot of agave plants that are already quite large like this one
This is the Echeveria Agavoide Blue Dragon or Blue Dragon
Beautiful lovely
I'm going to remove this leaf
And it's already taking root over there growing steadily
Lovely
This is truly a giant-sized agave plant as well
So it requires a substantial amount of space to grow properly Take a look
at this one
Yes I'm almost there gardeners
This one is also
That's not possible I can't withdraw it
Wow
Alright we'll leave it like this
I just don't like the way this one here has
I think I'll bring the pliers gardeners since I need to clean it
I've already brought my router here and we're going to clean it
We're sorry gardeners Today we didn't want to set up a
table we wanted to work in a more rustic way
We said why go through all this trouble Let's just go this way
I want to remove all these dry leaves before planting it
And I don’t know why this jerk gave us so many floral stalks last season
But it’s no big deal
Look it’s starting to come out
I like this pair of pliers because the tips are slightly rounded and won't damage the succulent's leaves
I have another pair that's very sharp
Yes gardeners that one is extremely dangerous so I don't use it for these tasks
What else
Oh gardeners I'm forgetting something important
I'd like to ask a question of the Argentine gardeners
What do you think What’s your take What are you saying out there
Let me know in the comments
We're thinking about traveling to the garden in March
And maybe bring along some succulents
I'm not sure if that's a good idea
Alright gardeners what do you think out there
They might be interested in purchasing some of our copies from here from Villa Lindura from Arequipa
Now then gardeners I'm listening
And if your feedback is favorable no need to say more—we'll head over there right away
But first the consultation gardeners
Because it would require extensive logistical effort to transport some copies all the way to Buenos Aires Argentina
Alright gardeners then I leave it to you my gardeners from Argentina
OK it turned out roughly like that
Now let's place it in its new little home
There it is perfect I love it
And finally we have this one the Jade Star
Jade Star so beautiful
Oh I think we just pulled off a baby it can't be
No I must have taken it out myself
Oh gardeners yes look here
A little one came loose—can't believe it
But he came out with a little twig that "we'll definitely make it" kind of thing
So no worries there you go Antares
Antares is always the most curious You may not have noticed gardeners
but in every recording we have Antares is always closer to me
He gets extremely intense when we'recording
And Paki is kind of boring
Look at how Paki is over there in her bed
Let's see if the camera focuses
There's Paki
She's not bothering anyone she's just like that after pulling her tricks
But Antares is truly very curious
And one thing Antares learned gardeners when you want something
When it wants something it nudges you pushing gently with its little snout
It comes over and pushes you like that
It needs something that's all
Maybe water maybe a trip to the bathroom or perhaps her cookies— I don't know
But something always seems to be needed when she does that
We'll keep going gardeners
And we set down our Jade Star
And it's done
We'll stop filming here and refill all those planters to reconnect once more
We're now at the final stretch of this project
Well gardeners check out
this beauty I absolutely
love Halloween What would Gavoy see in Halloween
Look at those marbled patterns black tips peach hues a gray center
No no A beautiful Gavoy
We'll plant it here like this
This is one I think it's the White Champagne unless I'm mistaken
White Champagne
We've lost the Pink Champagne
But we'll get it back gardeners
Look there are babies here
But the problem with these babies is that they're stuck too tightly to the rosette
So we'll just have to plant it like this as is
Either way we'll be extremely careful when it comes to watering
The good thing is that now all our spaces are covered so
the rain doesn't reach them That somewhat calms me down
Alright gardeners so it turned out like this We've planted them—
take a look see if the camera pans properly across all these beauties
The beauty of it is that now that they've planted the substrate the growth will be something they can't even imagine
So gardeners I think it's going to be quite a different experience when we have to organize everything in there
But we're going to check anyway to see how the little shoots are coming back from the cuttings we left in the pots where they were growing before
We're here now let's see if the camera can focus on this area
It looks like a lush cemetery yet no gardeners are present
Of course some didn't work out but others like this one just look at how many babies they're giving away
Here too look there are babies
Now where There are babies over here as well
Here look little ones are coming Here too
there are little ones lots of little ones
So gardeners did you notice that the cuttings still had the strength and vitality to produce new rosettes
After putting in this effort many of these little ones won't have the strength to produce babies again
But the important thing is that we'll still have a bountiful harvest of succulents
So when we restart our succulents let's not discard the cuttings
Let's leave it at that—they'll sprout again as you can see So
gardeners we're still in for a fine harvest of these succulents
And this entire space will look better than you can possibly imagine
Hopefully God willing I can finish early tomorrow the tasks I have at the office with the travel agency
And then finish this project so we can share it with each of you
How beautiful this little place is going to look our little agave haven
Gardeners I want to reset all of these as well
Even though someone told me over there Dani please don’t reset them—they look really nice now
By this point these giants must already be enormous
So I think it's necessary to do that work on each of these adorable creatures
so they once again look like the agavoines we just planted
When we first revived this beautiful reptile it was still very small and hadn't produced any offspring yet
It had already been about two years
But here's the thing—right from that moment we'd already taken out a little baby We had
to come all the way here gardeners as we are just so the point would be crystal clear
When I say they're going to double or triple the size and give babies away
Indeed I was telling you that since we restarted this
variegated reptile we've already had the chance to remove a baby
And wow baby look at these gardeners—what a development you wouldn't believe it
Look look at this baby it's practically ready already
o decorate any other garden besides Villalindura
This result gardeners with reiteration with decapitation
o turn our succulents into new plants
There are benefits the succulents will become much larger plants
They will become more prolific So if you're noticing your succulents
looking a bit lackluster out there don't worry—encourage them
Your succulents are losing their vitality
that succulent which is increasingly being consumed by the rosette
it needs to be reset gardeners
So do not be afraid everything has its process
but that process is moving along a very very favorable path for our succulents
I've already shown you the Antares and other succulents with clear evidence
So gardeners let's wrap this up here
Thank you so much for joining me on this delicious journey
Thank you for leaving us such lovely comments on all the shared videos
We're incredibly grateful—huge thanks to everyone
