Hi! Welcome to 5 minutes Cantonese.
I am Amanda from Hong Kong. I enjoy language learning. I speak cantonese, english, mandarin, Italian and German.
I guess whenever you tell the Cantonese speakers that you want to learn Cantonese. They will appreciate a lot, but the next minute they will tell you it's very difficult, almost like a mission impossible. So at the end you try to memorize few expressions by heart or simply give up.
I am not a professional teacher, but I am a professional student. I love to share how I learn language and try to use my own stupid way to teach you. I hope I can help you to make some simple sentences. Don't just try to surprise your cantonese friend with Cantonese foul language(I know it's the easiest way). But you know what I mean... 😂
I have another channel to teach Cantonese in italian. I put English subtitles there. Hope you enjoy.
As I mentioned, I am not a professional teacher. Please leave me comments if you have any.
Sorry, I have made a typing mistake of "to buy", 買 ,it should be "maai5" instead of "Maan"
Thank you!
Hello everyone I'm Amanda welcome to Five Minutes Cantonese
First of all believe me Cantonese isn't
difficult at all—just the pronunciation is a bit
challenging while the grammar is extremely simple So let's start from the very beginning
Look at these sentences—they're very
simple I am Amanda you are Anna he is
Sam she is April Now let's try translating these sentences into Cantonese
In Cantonese our verb has only one form which means "to be "
It's it's a bit like "hi" in English so it's
This number indicates the tone so simply leave it be listen and speak
I me
Whenever something begins with N meaning nose you speak using your nose
I
You
Again speak through your nose you
They we don't have genders so we'll just say
He
So now you can already
make a sentence I'
m Amanda you're Anna he's Sam she's April
Alright so before we move on to you April we and they
Let's learn two of my favorite
verbs To eat 食
To buy
買 Try to memorize it using your own method
For example to eat if you eat too much you'll get sick
To buy too much is to risk losing your mind
Buy buy
Okay just use your own imagination
So let's continue
In Cantonese we have a plural form for you as well as
for we and they What do these
mean You plural means you together with
others We means I together with others
And "they" refers to him or her alongside the others
So let's call all these people "they "
Fair enough So they they
So you all you we us and
they them Alright let's repeat
I you he or she
we and you plural they
Alright Hong Kong people we love
mixing English into our speech So
when we say lunch we just say lunch Pizza we just say pizza
So now that we have all
these we can already
form some sentences For example we eat pizza
They buy pizza
They buy pizza
And you all eat lunch
So in Cantonese we don't say have lunch we say eat lunch
You eat lunch
We can also
make a sentence like
I buy pizza to eat
It's very common
Thank you for watching the next
lesson We will learn more about
how to introduce yourself Stay tuned
Bye Bye bye See you next time
