tequila!
Hello everybody, Aaron Wozowski with Skolcat Podcast.
How are you guys all doing?
Today we're going to talk about something that I'm sure you're all familiar with, especially
if you go to the bar, especially if you're taking shots.
What is that?
Tequila.
You all love it, I know you all love it.
You all order it.
You always want it, especially certain times at night.
You're all coming to me.
Tequila shots, tequila sunrises, margaritas.
You like your tequila.
I get it.
I understand.
It's not a bad drink.
It's got a nice bite to it.
Today, we're going to go over tequila, all right?
Let's talk about it, give you just the nitty and gritty, nothing crazy, right?
Easy.
Tequila.
Where's it from?
Mexico.
By Mexico law, tequila has to come from Tequila, Mexico, all right?
Basically, from a blue agave plant.
They take the blue agave plant, that's where they're getting the actual tequila from.
It only comes from that plant.
It only comes from Mexico.
If you're getting tequila from anywhere else that's not Mexico, it's not tequila.
It's something else.
Don't be getting tequila from Australia, unless for some weird, goofy reason, somehow it went
from Mexico to Australia, and then they made it in Australia, and then, no.
Tequila comes from Mexico.
It's a Mexican liquor, okay?
So you have four different types of tequila, okay?
You've got your silver tequila, reposado, anejo, and extra anejo, all right?
You also have a gold tequila, but a lot of times what that is, it's silver tequila, and
they put a little bit of caramel coloring in it, making it look gold, more of like a
brownish color, right?
Silver tequila is unaged, right?
That's the purest form of the agave, without doing anything else to it, that's silver tequila,
right?
Reposado, usually in oak barrels for no more than like two months.
So it gives it a little bit of a different flavor, right?
A little bit of a different texture because of that oak barrel, hence it's a little bit,
you know, lighter brown in color.
Then you have anejo.
Now, anejo is also aged in oak barrels, but that's usually in between one and three years.
Again, gives it a much more complex flavor, and anejo basically translating to older.
That's basically the flavors you're going to get with anejo, a little bit, you know,
a little bit more complex because it's been in that barrel aging longer, which then leads
to extra anejo.
Now that needs to, again, be in aged oak barrels, but aged for three years or more.
So usually extra anejo is a more expensive one because it takes longer to get it as opposed
to silver where you can just, you know, get that blue agave, get that rolling, and bam,
you've got tequila.
The extra anejo takes a little bit longer, usually a little bit more expensive, and a
lot of times you're going to drink that either shot, not necessarily wanting to mix that
with other things, but you can, you can do whatever the hell you want, right?
But a lot of times people want to take it as a shot or, or, you know, on the rocks to
sip it because it's more expensive and you actually want to get that tequila taste as
opposed to mixing it with orange juice or grapefruit juice or anything like that, right?
So, so again, lots of different drinks that use tequila.
So honestly, one of the big ones you're going to hit is margaritas.
I'm almost certain margaritas are the most popular cocktail in the world.
And I mean, a good margarita is refreshing.
It's good.
You know, it's, it's something where you can decide to do sultra on the rim or not.
You can add extra lime to it.
You can add, you know, homemade sweet and sour or, you know, just shelf sweet and sour.
There's a bunch of different ways to do it.
You can change up the tequilas.
Margaritas are definitely a popular drink, right?
They're not bad, okay?
Tequila sunrise is pretty popular.
Some orange juice, tequila, grenadine, looks like a sunrise.
Put the orange on it, looks like the sun, right?
So very popular.
Palomas, that's with grapefruit juice, another popular drink.
And honestly, shots, shots, I mean tequila shots, it's the bite, right?
Sit there, tequila shot, get a pickle back, you know, pickle juice or a lime, whatever
you want to do after you take it to get a little bit of the sting out.
But that's what people like.
It's got that bite, right?
Tequila shots.
Lots of people, you know, don't do so well with tequila.
So it really depends.
You know, know your body, right?
Know your body before you're getting loaded up on tequila shots because I'm going to see
it later in the night, just letting you know.
Tequila is such a big thing that we actually have a National Tequila Day, right?
July 24th, National Tequila Day.
So you know, something to think about if you're out and about during that day.
Hey, maybe the bar's got some tequila specials or a free shot or who the heck knows, but
hey, something worth knowing.
July 24th, right?
So again, super easy, nitty gritty on some tequila, nothing too crazy, right?
Remember silver tequila, reposado, anejo, extra anejo, gold if you want to go that route,
you know, don't worry about that.
But popular ones that you're going to see, right?
You've got Patron, Casamigos, Don Julio, right?
These are some of the big ones you're going to see, Jose Cuevo, right?
These are the main ones, lots of different ones out there, trust me, a whole bunch of
different tequilas, okay?
But those are kind of the ones you're going to see, you're going to be able to ask for.
Most bars should have this for you, all right?
