What do you do if you're in need of a helping hand?
Ask the nearest person for help, and if they're a good person, they'll help you out, right?
But if you're an animal that needs assistance, what do you do?
You do the same, and ask the nearest human for help.
Lucky for us, those instances were captured on video for us to watch together.
Let's begin.
An urban flood is a disaster by any definition.
Unfortunately, the creatures that call our streets home
can find themselves victims to nature's anger just as much as we can.
That's when they need our help the most.
Lucky for this poor kitty that there were some flood heroes ready and willing to get it to dry ground.
Something about deer.
They often think they're skinnier than they really are.
I can relate, but they have a penchant for getting stuck in fences while trying to slip through.
I'm wondering why this little fawn just didn't go around.
You'll see what I mean at the end of this clip.
Live and learn, little girl.
Live and learn.
This unfortunate cat is stuck in the dark with a can perilously attached to its head.
It can't tell friend from foe,
so it naturally resists this helpful human's first few attempts to free it from its self-imposed prison.
Eventually, success is achieved, and the cat's savior is revealed.
Thanks, buddy, and sorry for all that trying to scratch you stuff.
This unfortunate draft horse managed to fall into this irrigation ditch,
and the sides were too steep to get out unassisted.
This was a job that was simply too big for humans alone.
That's when the heavy machinery was called in.
They managed to rig a construction crane to lift this massive beast to safety,
and the fire department was on hand for a quick hose down to clean the mud from this clumsy creature.
Foxes are known to keep their distance from humans more often than not,
with one notable exception.
That is when one manages to get themselves plopped into the river with no hope of getting out.
Fortunately, these kayakers making their way through the canals of Bath, England
were in the right place at the right time.
They plucked this struggling fox from the water
and onto the shore where emergency services were waiting to take over.
Warning, this one is not for the faint of heart.
This poor pooch was the victim of a cruel prank
and had its mouth taped shut by a wicked and heartless person.
That's when the trained professionals had to step in to not only rescue him,
but show the dog that not all humans are unsympathetic monsters.
The poor thing was covered in ticks and in need of food and medical care.
Faith in humanity restored, there's a happy ending to the story
as the dog received the care he so richly needed,
was rehabilitated and placed in a loving home.
All's well that ends well.
Guaranteed, nothing will mobilize nearby people quicker than a kitten in distress.
This unfortunate kitty popped its head through a hole in a pipe,
but had no plan for getting back out.
It took a bit of handy lubricant and some trial and error,
but eventually the crowd that gathered was able to work together
to find the right angle and the right amount of force
to safely free the kitten from its self-imposed dilemma.
Question is, which one of the onlookers took the little guy home after all that?
Are you ready?
No, I'm not tugging.
Okay, I think if we get it, if I get his head straight, like straight.
Okay, let me try to push him up there.
I just need you to pull it a little bit, pull him down.
What's more relatable than a parent wanting to look out for their kids?
In this next clip, we see a street cat and her kittens
huddled for warmth out in the open with nowhere to go for shelter.
That's when the simple act of providing a small packet of cat food
means that mama gets the sustenance she needs to look after her youngsters enough
to make it and have a chance at a better future.
For all the moms and dads out there, this is one we can all relate to.
This beautiful, colorful, and majestic little bird should be soaring through the skies.
Unfortunately, it has gotten its little feet frozen to this railing.
All it took from this kind soul to free this elegant creature
was the simple act of sharing the warmth from his hand.
A few moments of connection one-on-one from human to avian
was all it took to allow the bird to fly free once again.
Owls are renowned for their night vision.
Perhaps this owl should have stuck to flying after sunset
because it did not see this soccer net and plowed right into it at full speed,
getting itself tangled and trapped.
Well, the soccer game came to an abrupt halt with the spectators rushing to cut the bird loose.
Once the notably embarrassed owl was free and flew off to safety,
the game was allowed to continue, albeit with a few gaping holes in the netting.
A small price to pay to free a beautiful but clumsy owl.
A few scraps of meat is all it takes to make a world of difference for a starving street dog.
But more than that, it takes the willingness to stop
when presented with the opportunity to help out one of Mother Nature's creatures
rather than passing on by.
It just goes to show what a bit of human kindness can do
to change the life of one of our animal cousins.
