Place these five elemental fruits on the altar for five years to activate the wealth fortune wheel ensuring a flourishing family lineage and granting whatever you wish for
Homage to Amitabha Buddha welcome dear guests to the peaceful spiritual feng shui channel
I am a practitioner deeply interested in spiritual feng shui and inner peace
Wishing you joyous greetings as welcome the beginning of the Lunar New Year in the Year of the Dragon
Dear everyone the five-fruit tray during Lunar New Year is not merely about having the required items as many people mistakenly believe
The five-fruit tray is essentially a home-based station that emits blessings and positive energy
It is the gathering place of celestial energies the nexus where human consciousness meets the laws of the universe
Today I would like to share with all of you the profound secret behind the five-fruit tray
So you not only create an auspicious offering but also learn how to activate blessings that maintain prosperity throughout the entire year
Esteemed audience the I Ching contains the saying:
The universe operates according to the principles of yin-yang and the five elements
During the Lunar New Year especially at the precise moment of the year's transition energy shifts most powerfully throughout the entire year
It is the moment when the old departs and the new arrives
A time when the breath of heaven earth and humanity converge
If in that moment your home has a tray of five fruits placed in the correct position and arranged properly
It's just like inviting good fortune into your home by opening a gateway for it
The five-fruit tray is typically placed in the highest spot in the house
On the Buddha altar the ancestral altar or the main guest table
in the living room—this is no random placement dear viewers
This is the focal point toward which the family's consciousness is drawn
It is the first thing a guest's eyes meet upon entering the home
When the eyes meet the five-fruit tray the mind simultaneously absorbs energy from it
The Imperial Text Zhe Qing teaches
Its terrain forms the body its springs and streams the bloodstream
Houses take their form as their body and flowing water as their bloodstream
Therefore the five-fruit tray placed at the center is the heart of the house
It's where energy is pumped throughout the rooms
Dear everyone there's something many people don't know: the
color and shape of the fruit directly influence human emotions
The red of apples and dragon fruit stimulates excitement and joy
The yellow of pomelos and Buddha's hand citrus evokes a warm reverent feeling
The green of figs and grapes evokes a fresh vibrant charm
When people see harmonious colors their hearts grow calm
When the mind is calm energy flows smoothly when energy flows smoothly actions
proceed effortlessly This is a teaching of the Buddha found in the ancient scriptures
The mind leads all things the mind is their master the mind is their creator The mind is
the root of all phenomena Your emotions at the beginning
of the year determine the energy of the entire year
If at the beginning of the year you see a complete fresh and harmonious tray of five fruits
your heart will feel joyful and content
This sense of fulfillment will serve as the foundation for all your decisions this year
You will not be hurried greedy or fearful of lack
And from that state of inner peace and calm prosperity and fortune will naturally come
And once again properly arranging the five-fruit tray is not superstition
it is actively cultivating positive energy in your living space
It is about harmonizing energy within the household It is about nurturing
the mind with positive emotions In the book Mingxin
Biao there is a passage that boldly states
Peaceful mind brings peace good mind brings goodness
A calm mind makes the home peaceful a kind heart makes everything go well
Displaying a proper fruit tray is a vital tradition during a prosperous year
So what is the true significance of the five-fruit tray
Why did ancient people refer to it as the Five Elements Lotus
We'll explore this together in the next section
Dear audience the five-fruit tray is essentially a flower of the
five elements blooming simultaneously
The five elements—what are they
Metal wood water fire earth
These are not merely five basic substances
but they are the five fundamental types of energy in
the universe Each type has its own unique properties
plays a distinct role and interacts with the others in a dynamic balance of mutual support and contrast
In the Book of Changes it
is taught: "Heaven generates
water at number one earth completes it at number six "
Fire born of earth at number two
completed by heaven at number seve
Wood is born under the heavenly number
three completed by the earthly number eight
Earth generates metal at number four
heaven completes it at number nine
Heaven generates earth at number five earth completes it at number ten
Heaven produces earth in the number
five and earth completes it in ten—this is
the origin of the five elements When you arrange the five-fruit tray—
With all five representative fruits representing the five elements your
home space will be filled with the full spectrum of five types of energy
Earth is the foundation the center the stability
Metal is refinement wealth and endurance
Wood represents growth vitality and development
Water signifies flow wisdom and adaptability
Fire represents brightness passion and vitality when the five elements are in
balance the energy in the home becomes
harmonious—neither too hot nor too cold
Not too hard not too soft — not too fast not
too slow — balance creates
a sense of fullness
The feeling of contentment reduces
greed in the heart when greed
diminishes actions become wiser and decisions more accurate
And blessings and prosperity will naturally come
Laozi taught in the Tao Te Ching: "Knowing contentment
brings no disgrace knowing
when to stop brings no danger "
The full moon serves as a reminder of abundance
and completeness it helps you maintain
harmony within your home preserve inner peace and keep prosperity from dispersing
Of the five
elements one is the most important—earth—because
earth serves as the foundation
of wealth and prosperity
In the Complete Book of Feng Shui it states: Earth gives birth to all things
it is the earth that brings forth all living
beings Without earth no plants can grow
Without earth wealth cannot be sustained
In the five-fruit tray earth serves
as the central pillar— the foundation and support for all other elements
We'll examine each type of fruit in detail so you can clearly understand
their roles significance and how they
help activate blessings and prosperity
First let me speak about the foundational group
—this is the very foundation that sustains merit
Revered assembly if we must choose one type of fruit to serve as the central support of the tray—
That's the golden pomelo
—more than just visually
striking it carries a very special energy
The round shape of
the pomelo symbolizes completeness—
whole neither lacking nor excessive—in Eastern culture
The circle has always been regarded as the symbol of
perfection—plump wealth a harmonious
life and a fulfilled career
The yellow color of the pomelo belongs to the Earth element
Earth symbolizes the land
Land is the source of all living things
Land is the repository of treasures
In the Earth Store Bodhisattva's Scripture of Vows it says
Infinite Earth Store
The treasury within the earth is boundless
Gold silver and precious gems— all come from the earth When
you place the golden
pomelo in the center of the tray—
You are establishing an earth energy center—according
to the law of elemental transformation earth gives
birth to metal and just as earth sustains gold a solid
foundation is essential to hold and preserve wealth
A solid foundation ensures lasting prosperity I once guided
Sister Lan in Hai Dương who runs
a small business selling fabric
Previously she used to arrange small
fruits in her offering tray many
colors quite eye-catching the child advised her to change the way it was displayed
Place a large round golden pomelo right in the center
Only then come the other fruits around it
She followed the instructions
Just two months later she told her child that
more customers were coming to make purchases
and strangely all the old debts were also being fully paid by customers
Money now comes in steadily no longer the wild swings of the past
She told her child
Oh I feel my heart has grown calmer
Stop worrying about money
Just looking at that large round pomelo calms my heart
Its placement at the center of the tray creates stability
Stability brings inner peace
Harmony in the heart brings favorable
energy favorable energy brings prosperity
This is not superstition—it is a
clear psychological and energetic law
A sense of fulfillment reduces greed in the human heart when greed
diminishes actions become clear-minded
just as gold emerges from solid ground
But there is a fruit that carries an even deeper meaning of protection
That is the Buddha's Hand
Venerable assembly the Buddha's Hand is not only visually appealing
Carrying a powerful symbol the shape of the Buddha's hand resembles
a hand cradling like the Buddha's
hand protecting all sentient beings
In the Great Compassion Heart Dharani Sutra
it mentions the thousand hands and thousand
eyes of Bodhisattva Guanyin each hand a skillful means for liberating sentient beings
Each hand represents protection the Buddha's hand on the five-fruit tray
symbolizes that same protection and the
Buddha's hand belongs to the earth element
The bright yellow color is very visually striking
Its unique shape is unlike any other fruit
When you place the Buddha's Hand in the center of a tray
It becomes the focal point of energy
Like a light in a dark room like a pillar
in a raging current the Buddha's hand
supports the household giving them a sense
of stability a place to cleanse themselves
In life everyone needs a place to
cleanse—spiritual cleansing soulful
renewal Only when
such a place exists
can people truly dare to move forward
Only when daring to take on big
projects does one dare to expand
their career Allow me to tell you about Mr Tuân from Bac Ninh
Anh Tuân is in the electronics repair business
He used to worry constantly
Fearful that his livelihood wouldn't be stable
Last Lunar New Year season
He bought a large beautiful Buddha's hand citron
Placed right in the center of the altar
Every morning when he wakes up
Seeing the Buddha's hand fills his heart with joy
He says
I felt as though something was watching
over my family and strangely enough ever since that Lunar New
Year his clients had
increased and his work became more stable
Regular income growth
He was able to open another store
A solid foundation
Prosperity can now stay
Protected and supported
People gain the courage to move forward
This is precisely the energy of the core group
Dear everyone
The character "sung" conveys everything
Sung means abundance
It means completeness
It means prosperity
The fig fruit has a very distinctive shape
Tightly packed clusters
one pressing against
another—symbolizing prolific reproduction A single seed falls
to the ground sprouts into a tree and the tree blossoms
Flowers bear fruit
Conversely fruits contain seeds
This is the natural law of Wood
The green color of mulberry belongs to the Wood element
Wood symbolizes trees and vegetation
For growth in the I Ching Wood is called the Virtue
of Germination—the
virtue of flourishing
life When Wood
is present vital
energy becomes abundant
When vitality is present
all things flourish
in the five-fruit
tray the fig fills the gaps and
spaces between the larger fruits
This carries profound feng shui significance
the Imperial Book of Earth states: "The
gathering and dispersion of wealth energy
and the smooth circulation of vital energy "
Homes must know how to retain accumulated
energy yet also know how to allow
it to circulate if the offering tray
has many gaps the energy will escape
If the tray is filled to capacity air will be retained but full does not
mean overcrowded —rather it means arranging
the items skillfully
so they are perfectly full yet still airy
Pomegranates are the perfect fruit for
this purpose when you look at the tray
filled with plump abundant pomegranates
your heart naturally feels at ease
Feeling no lack
Feeling abundant
This sense is crucial
In activating the mindset of prosperity and abundance
In Confucius's Analects there is a saying:
He who is not anxious about poverty is not anxious about peace of mind
Not being concerned about poverty but being concerned about inner peace
When the heart feels content peace of mind naturally follows
When the mind is calm
blessings naturally arrive
the fuller the tray the stronger the energy
gathered jube carries a similar vitality to figs dear esteemed guests jube symbolizes connection
Each small grape connects to form a large cluster
A single grape is nothing
But a whole cluster of grapes is truly valuable
This is the symbol of cooperation
community a small
investment yielding great
returns small blessings accumulating
into great fortune green or purple grapes
Both belong to the wood element Fresh green
Elegant purple
Both colors bring a vibrant energy to the table
In feng shui applications it is
said: "Wood thriving with water
is prosperous wood nourished
by water will
grow sustainably "
This is the law of mutual generation—
Confucianism on the sacrificial tray of fruits
symbolizing this sustainable growth I still
remember once guiding Sister Huong in Ha Dong
Huong runs an online business with little capital and
modest profits she's constantly
worried about her business
And advise her to place a large bunch
of green grapes on the fruit tray and
every day when she sees the bunch of grapes she should remember tha
Big growth begins with small shoots
Selling a little each day
But accumulation adds up to much
She followed this principle
And strangely enough
From then on her mind felt less anxious
She focused on selling more consistently
paid closer attention to her customers
and gradually her regular clientele grew
Orders also increased A year later
she had opened a physical store Great fortune begins with
small beginnings This
is the lesson from the bunch of grapes
Never underestimate small drops of water for they can form an
ocean never despise small coins
for they add up to great wealth
Because small coins will accumulate
into a treasure to make
the offering tray truly vibrant we need to add the element of fire
Dear assembly
Red is the color of yang energy
The color of life
The color of joy
The vermilion Azure Dragon carries a powerful energy within it
The name says it all—
Dragon fruit
The dragon is a mythical creature of the East
The dragon symbolizes
power Prosperity
The dragon's presence still brings auspiciousness
Red dragon fruit belongs to
the fire element
fire is light
fire is heat fire is dynamic
energy in the Book of Changes
Fire is known as the light
of virtue—virtue that
brings illumination
When fire exists
all things are enlightened
Everything has just been activated
In feng shui
Fire accumulation activates fame and fortune
What is fame
It is public recognition
It is acknowledgment from others
It's an opportunity
for advancement What is
luck It's meeting a
benefactor encountering
a favorable opportunity and having work
proceed smoothly Vermilion Azure Dragon
It should be placed in the most visible
spot on the tray—either at the front or to the left of the large pomelo—so that
anyone looking at the tray can easily see it
The first thing they notice is a vibrant red
This red hue stimulates the mind
Creates a sense of excitement
Makes the plate stand out with impact
It has vitality as long as the
fire is bright it remains open Red dates
also carry a similar
fiery energy Esteemed members of the audience though red dates are
small their power is great
The red of the apple activates positive energy in the home
What is positive energy
It is positive vitality
It is liveliness
It is joy
In the Huangdi Canon it is stated: Yang
dwelling yang energy is
strong yin dwelling yin
energy prevails residential spaces require
yang energy strong yang energy is essential
Then the family
members become
healthy happy and prosperous
Red dates small and round
symbolize partial fulfillment
A single red apple is a complete whole
Many red apples are many complete wholes
When you arrange red apples on the tray
You're creating many satisfying moments on the plate
Red dates are easy to arrange and pair
They can be neatly stacked into small clusters
Scattered decorations around large ornaments
create a cheerful atmosphere especially at the
beginning of the year when the weather is still
cold and homes are prone to negative energy
Negative energy makes household members prone to illness
Easily sad and prone to arguments
But if red dates are placed on the tray Positive energy will be activated
Help reduce the chill in the household
Warmth in harmony makes people warm
And if there are five
The child guides Brother Minh in Thai Binh
Mr Minh is in the electrical equipment
business He told his son that every year
at the beginning of the year he usually
gets sick and clients also contact him less
Have to wait until March or April
to feel better I
advise you place a
tray of five fruits with red dates
and every morning recite the mantra
Namu Datsui Ryōri Kōō Butsu
Recite three times
To activate healing energy
He follows along
That year he didn't fall sick like in past
years and strangely enough right at the
beginning of the month a major client had already
reached out to place an order
He told me I'm feeling incredibly
energetic this year
After the harmony water
becomes the key element The element of
flowing wealth Dear esteemed audience
Wealth is the flow
of money water flows
continuously so money must also keep
moving constantly Still water turns
foul and stagnant money breeds scarcity
In the Tao Te Ching Laozi
teaches that the highest good
is like water—gentle yet
capable of wearing through stone
Water always
flows downward yet
sustains all living things In
the five elements
water symbolizes
flow—of matter of information
Energy flow is blocked
If your home lacks water
Everything comes to a standstill
Money is hard to come by and hard to spend
Work progresses slowly
Social conditions are also difficult in
the context of five-element theory this is
often expressed through fruits high in
moisture such as green grapes plums and oranges
Or through black and dark blue—water
nurtures wood trees need water to
grow people too
need water to develop
money too needs water to increase
Need to circulate
Need to flow
Seed of five fruits with sufficient moisture
Helps maintain balance in life
Balance in financial matters
Brief explanation of work-related issues
Brief explanation of health-related issues
The Inner Canon of the Yellow Emperor states When
flow is unobstructed there is no pain
When flow is unobstructed there is no pa
When qi flows freely illness diminishes
when money circulates abundantly
wealth increases water balances fire
but excessive fire will burn everything
Water is needed to regulate fire those who
are overly heated need water to cool down when
things move too quickly water is needed
to slow them A good flow is achieved through water
Then the money is stagnant
Finally comes the needle
The action of holding and filtering
Esteemed members of the audience
The needle is money
Yet the needle also represents discipline
In the Book of Changes
Kim is called the virtue
of decisiveness—firm and
sharp capable of cutting
away what is unnecessary
Kim can protect what matters most
Kim symbolizes wealth
Gold silver money
But kim is not just material
Kim also represents one's attitude toward money
Financial discipline
means the ability
to hold onto money Many people earn
money but fail to keep it Money comes
in one hand and goes out the other
It is a deficiency of metal According to the five
elements theory metal is
generated by earth Earth gives
rise to gold and earth also
produces precious metals
The five-fruit embryo has a golden radiant color
It's enhancing metal
since gold is generated by
earth the Buddha's golden earth also generates
metal the yellow Azure
Dragon likewise enhances
metal metal helps in retention and purification
Keep your possessions from scattering
Preserve your assets from waste
In the Five Principles it says
A noble person loves wealth but acquires it through proper means
A gentleman loves wealth but must acquire
it with integrity and he must also
preserve wealth with integrity What is
integrity It is knowing
how to spend wisely
Knowing when to save is key
Knowing where to invest wisely is essential
Kim works with the core to achieve strength
Stability The core must not only look good but also be solid
When you place the seed be sure
to secure it firmly—do not leave it
loose as it may fall A firmly planted
seed symbolizes a solid foundation
It's not easy to be swayed nor
to lose focus With a needle
one can sew without scattering
But dear fellow practitioners
merely displaying the right kind of fruit is not enough
—showing it in the proper way is what truly matters
We need to know how to arrange the sprouts
Sprouts carry energy
Sprouts contain air
Venerable assembly
There is one very important thing that I wish to share further
It's about the mutual generation
and balance among the elements many people only know how to
choose the correct element but fail to understand
how to arrange them so they support one another
The result was that the
melody though beautiful
had an abrupt energy—like a band where
each player performs a different
tune making the whole thing sound chaotic to the ear
In the I Ching there is
teaching on the principle
of mutual generation: Wood gives rise to Fire—
dry wood burns to produce flame Fire gives rise to Earth—fire reduces to
ash and ash becomes soil
Earth gives
rise to metal
metal gives rise
to water water
nurtures wood—this is the
endless cycle of generation
When arranging the five-fruit seedlings
pay attention to this principle: place
the wooden one near fire and position
the green fig near the red dragon fruit
Place fire near earth
Red dragon placed near golden pomelo
Place earth in the center
Surrounding is metal
Golden pomelo in the center
Around it are bright golden fruits
Thus energy flows freely—never
blocked or suddenly surging
Remember once when I visited
my sister Nhung in Hai Duong
Her arrangement of the five-fruit
seedlings was very beautiful but I
noticed something off—she placed red dragon fruit
and golden pomelo
Between them lies a pile of green apples
Fire and Earth
Separated by Wood
Energy cannot circulate
The magpie advises her to rearrange them
Place the red dragon fruit next to the
golden pomelo to generate earth energy
to nourish the earth with fire Place
the green apple on the opposite side
The seedling looks much more harmonious now
She said isn't that strange
Now that I look at it
My eyes feel less strained
Before it just looked artificial and off
That is the difference
Between seven chosen at random and seven following a pattern
Seven at random
Beautiful to behold but restless in the heart
Seven by design
Beautiful eyes yet the heart
too is at peace beyond mutual
generation there is also mutual
restraint—Wood overcomes Earth for
trees easily penetrate the
ground Earth overcomes Water for
earth dams water Water overcomes
Fire for water extinguishes fire
Water extinguishes fire
Fire melts metal
Metal cuts wood
Metal chops trees
Mutual克制 may
sound negative
But in reality it's not
Mutual克制 is regulation it is balance
Without mutual克制 all
things would grow
unchecked—trees would overtake each
other and fire would
consume everything
His water must have mutual restraint to regulate it within
the five fruits'
essence mutual
restraint is necessary
but it must be moderate—not excessive
For example if you place too much wood
it will overact on earth the earth becomes easily penetrated by trees making the
foundation unstable If
you place too much water
It will extinguish fire
Fire is extinguished
Yang energy is gone
Therefore balance is needed
Earth must be dominant to provide stability
Wood should be just enough to generate vitality
Few but striking
To create a focal point
Water and metal harmonize to complete the composition
And I’d like to share one more
A small secret tip
It's about the direction in which the five-
fruit sprout is placed Many people only focus
on making the sprout look
beautiful but overlook
the direction which is extremely important
Each direction carries a different
energy according to
Master Trach Minh Kinh
each home has eight directions—four
favorable and four unfavorable—Mam Ngũ Quả
Place it in one of the
four favorable directions:
Life Energy the best direction for vitality
Heavenly Medicine the direction of health and
healing Longevity the
direction for enduring life
Direction of longevity and harmonious marriage
Facing the back
Direction of stability and peace
If your home is
An East Four House
The four favorable directions are
East Southeast North South
If your home
Is a West Four Tract
The four favorable directions are
West Southwest Northwest Northeast
Place the five-fruit seed in one
of these favorable directions if
unsure of your
home's type position
it toward the east or southeast
These two directions are favorable for
the majority of Vietnamese people however according to
Mr Duc's guidance from Thai Binh he placed the
five-fruit sapling in the northwest direction
That's an unfavorable direction for your
home despite having a promising start
work still faces difficulties I'd advise
relocating the auspicious spot to the east
That's all there is to it—no need
to change anything else A month later
he said the
work had improved significantly with
more clients coming in
Traffic bottlenecks are gradually being
resolved—this is the power
of proper orientation
Being in the right place facing the right direction allows energy to be fully activated
In addition to the direction of placement the timing is also important seeds should be
placed at a favorable moment with the best
time being the morning
of Lunar New Year's Eve
From 9 to 11 a m
This is the hour of confrontation
The hour of crisis
The peak time of positive energy in the day
If you miss this hour
Any other time is fine but avoid
late night—between
11 p m and 1 a —and
midday from 11 a to
1 p as energy during
these two hours is excessively intense
The north is the yin extreme
The south is the yang extreme
Unsuitable for placing the altar
And one more very important point
When placing the altar
The house must be clean
Cleaned up thoroughly
Wiped down completely
No trash left behind
Nothing out of place
As stated in the Imperial Residence Scripture
Fresh air brings joy a clean home
has pure energy
pure energy invites
blessings remember the year Sister
Hoa from Nam
Dinh called you she said
Teacher I set up the five-fruit tray
exactly as you taught me but why
doesn’t it seem any different I’m asking—has your
sister’s house been cleaned thoroughly yet
She replied "Not yet teacher I'm just too busy I planned
to clean it after Tet
" The child said "Sister we really need to clean the house properly first "
The beautiful five-fruit tray was nice but the house was
just cluttered energy can't flow
if it's not
properly arranged That very day Sister Hoa cleaned the house thoroughly sweeping every corner and wiping down every piece of furniture
Getting rid of unused old items
Once done she said
Funny how the house feels so clean now the offering tray looks brightened too
And it's true
After that Lunar New Year
Her work proceeds
smoothly because
of thorough preparation not
random luck Esteemed audience I
would like to share a little more
Regarding the care of
the five-fruit tray many
people leave it unattended after the ceremony
only discarding it when the fruits have wilted
and begun to rot—this is very unsatisfactory
Wilted and rotten fruit carries decaying energy
Decaying energy
Can affect the entire household
Each day you should set aside time to address this
Wait a few minutes to inspect the
fruit tray replace any that are wilting
immediately and discard any showing
signs of worm damage right away
Keep the offering tray always fresh and
vibrant always abundant
always radiant As the
text also states: "Seeking enlightenment
through external means
leads to fulfillment "
No need for external prayers—each day's
fresh offering is a gentle reminder
of that contentment and when the festival ends and
you'ready to take down the offering tray—
Take a brief pause don't
rush to carry it down set the
tray down gently and silently
thank the offering tray
Brought good energy in the first days of the year
Thanks to heaven earth ancestors
and Buddha for their protection
Then slowly brought down
The remaining good fruits
Use them as food—don’t waste them Let
the wilted fruits fall to the ground
to nourish the plants
Don’t throw them
in the trash Everything carries energy
Please respect them
Dear esteemed audience I have shared extensively
About the five-fruit tray
From the five elements theory to the significance of each type of fruit
The way of flying
The way of placement the way of care
All have purpose
The purpose is to help you build
A harmonious living space
A prosperous mindset
A peaceful life
But I must emphasize once more
The five-fruit tray is merely a means
The heart is the true root
If your heart is not pure no matter how beautiful the offering plate may be it serves no purpose
if your heart is filled with greed anger and
delusion then negative energy will inevitably arise
It will destroy all good feng shui
The Buddha taught in the Flower Garland Sutra
The mind is like a painter
Painting countless forms hidden within
The mind is like an artist painting countless
hidden realms our mind
shapes the world we experience
If our mind is beautiful
our world becomes beautiful
If our mind is dark so too will our world be
Our world is also flawed so
besides arranging the five-fruit
tray correctly you must also
cultivate your
mind How Simply put
Do one kind deed every day—perhaps
give a little money to someone in
need help an elderly person cross the
street or simply say something kind
For others
saving a small creature may be enough
Good deeds don't need to be grand
But they should be consistent
The Three-Character Classic says
At birth human nature
is inherently good
people are naturally good at heart and doing good
means returning to one's true nature nurturing
virtue and merit Each day
brings new opportunity
Chant the Buddha's name
Chant Namu Amitabha Buddha
One hundred times
Or a thousand times
Depending on the time you have available
Reciting the Buddha's name brings peace
to the mind helps eliminate karmic
obstacles fosters increasing merit and
virtue the Infinite Life Sutra states:
With wholehearted faith and
sincere aspiration even if
one recites the Buddha's name
ten times if rebirth is not
attained then true enlightenment cannot be realized
Wholehearted faith and joyful
aspiration to be born in our land
Even if only ten recitations are made
if one is not reborn then enlightenment
cannot be attained—this
is the vow of Buddha
Amitabha who has already become a Buddha
Thus His vow has come true: those who
sincerely chant Buddha'
s name will be guided by
Him Therefore besides the five-fruit tray
include the practice of chanting Buddha's name
The five-fruit tray is a material means
mindfulness of Buddha is a spiritual means
when these two methods are combined they
will bring about the best possible results
With heartfelt wishes may all beings enjoy
a peaceful and prosperous Year of the
Dragon 圆满 (perfect
fulfillment) and may all
sentient beings be blessed with happiness
May all sentient beings be liberated
Homage to the Buddha
Homage to the Dharma
Homage to the Sangha
Venerable ones
There's still more to share today dear
Let me continue sharing
How to arrange the living tray
And how to secure the fruit tray's filter
Lunar New Year
Reverend please allow me to address the congregation When arranging the five-fruit tray there'
s a simple yet highly effective principle Which I call the Law of Support Fill and Accent
If you remember and sincerely practice
these three words your five-fruit
tray will become a
powerful transmitter
of blessings What is the foundation
The pillar is the cornerstone the
foundation the
central support In the
five-fruit tray the central pillar
represents earth Please select one
Or two tangerines belonging to the earth
element Placed right in the center of the tray
They could be golden pomelos
Or kumquats or both
Place them in the central
position stabilize the
left side firmly—this is the first step and also the most crucial one In fortune-telling there is
a saying: "Centered and
upright harmony follows "
Place it right at
the center everything
will harmonize when the foundation is firm what surrounds it will also stand
strong when the foundation is correct
Energy will be focused exactly where it belongs
You've seen many people set out fruit trays
Without a central support
Just small fruits packed tightly together
Looks extremely chaotic and lacks focus
the energy from that plate disperses in all
directions unable to gather vital energy
Once a solid foundation
is established however
Solid in the center
The next step is filling
What is filling
Filling means closing gaps
It creates a sense of abundance
Making the tray seamless is essential
use fruits from the wood element
to fill in the gaps—figs are
particularly effective for this purpose
Likewise it 's not about
stuffing but about
skillfully arranging
filling gaps naturally
To make the tray look full yet airy
— full but not cramped In the Tao Te
Ching there is a saying: "Empty yet
inexhaustible moving
yet ever emerging "
Empty yet never depleted
the more it moves the
more it overflows the tray offerings is the
same—filled to the brim yet must remain airy
and uncluttered never stifling or oppressive
Once a solid foundation
is established filling
in follows the final step being the focal
point—what is the point
The point is the focal
emphasis the element designed to draw the eye
It brings vitality to the plate
please use fruits belonging to the fire
element to garnish—red
longan is excellent
and red dates are equally wonderful
Or small red cherry tomatoes
The fire point should be placed in a prominent position
In front of the altar
Or beside the earth pillar
So that anyone who looks at it
They immediately notice the vibrant red
This red hue will activate the mind
Evoking feelings of joy and excitement
In the Imperial Canon of Zhejing it is written:
A bright and open hall
Indicates a prosperous master
Where there is brightness the master prospers
The focal point on the plate of fruit
is precisely what creates that bright spot
Beyond the three principles
support fill and highlight
You should also pay attention to
Color Colors must be harmonious
Avoid clutter
Too many bright colors will strain the eyes
Leading to an unsettled mind
Choose about 3 to 4 main colors:
the yellow of earth the green of wood the red of
fire and optionally
white or black for metal and water
And one more very important thing
The tray must be sturdy
After you've arranged everything
Gently shake the tray a little
If the item feels loose
Arrange it again
A solid tray symbolizes certain prosperity
Unshakable Impossible to lose
A solid tray means solid energy
Remember this child
Once when I visited my friend Hai 's
house in Nam Dinh he
set out a beautifully arranged tray of fruits complete with every kind
But when I looked I saw the tray was unstable
the items loosely stacked and likely to
fall so I advised him to reorganize it using
the larger ones as support in the center
The surrounding dragon fruit is packed tighter
Add a few red pitayas in front
Once arranged
The plate looks much more solid
He said
Seeing this tray I feel much more at ease
And it's true
That year his work went very smoothly
After arranging the tray properly
You need one more crucial step
That is the sealing step
The step that transforms the five-fruit tray
From a decorative item
Into a feng shui treasure
Dear elder brother the beautiful tray
represents the physical aspect while
heartfelt joy symbolizes the spiritual
dimension—these two must go hand in hand
A beautifully arranged altar without
heartfelt intention
is merely decorative an
altar with only intention but poorly
presented lacks sufficient spiritual energy
Both physical and
spiritual aspects
dynamic energy and mental force—
this is the dual solution when you
have prepared the five-fruit tray
Before placing it on the altar
or guest table do the following:
first wash your
hands thoroughly—
clean hands symbolize a pure mind
In the Diamond Sutra it says: "Abide nowhere
" "Give rise to a mind " thus one should
generate a mind that
does not dwell anywhere—
meaning the mind must
remain pure and unattached
Monday When carrying the tray hold it level with your waist
Do not hold it lower than your chest Holding it high symbolizes reverence
Reverence for heaven
Reverence for earth
Respect for Buddha
Respect for ancestors
The Analects state:
When sacrificing treat it as if they are present When honoring spirits treat it as if the spirits are present
Offerings made in reverence should be as if the departed are truly present
Worshiping the deities as if they are
truly present — that is the attitude of
reverence Thirdly when
placing the offering
tray in position maintain a joyful heart
Joyfully delighted
Do not rush
Do not dwell on sorrowful thoughts
The Buddha taught
All things are created by the mind
Everything arises from the mind
If your heart is joyful and
happy that energy will flow into
the offering tray and the tray will carry that joyful energy
And that energy
will spread
throughout your home on
Wednesday after setting
up the tray stand straight
Recite three times
He is the title of Buddha Many Treasures
He is the Buddha who symbolizes infinite
treasures The Sutra of the Harmonious
Dharma mentions the
Pagoda of Many Treasures
The tower appears
in midair Pushing
the treasure village
forward
May wealth never run dry
Why recite three times
In Buddhism
The number three represents the Three Jewels
Buddha Dharma Sangha
Recite three times Signifying completeness
Expressing deep respect
Demonstrating sincere devotion
Chris Niệm
Please visualize carefully
What did he imagine Picture
golden light descending from
above onto the five-fruit
tray seeping into each fruit
Make them glow
Then light spreads from the fruit tray
Filling the entire house
Overflowing the living room
Seeping into every corner
This helps strengthen your concentration
Thursday After completing the recitation
bow your head and remain silent for a moment
About five seconds
Keep your mind calm and steady
Let the energy seep into the palm of your hand
Then slowly step back
Do not rush
Do not make a sound
In doing so your five-fruit
tray ceases to be an ordinary
decoration it becomes a treasured
relic a beacon radiating blessings
Become the bridge between heaven
and humanity—once you guided Sister
Hằng in Dong Anh
to follow this path
Sister Hằng runs a small business
At the market life is tough every day
There's not much talk
Last year the child taught the sister how to arrange the five-fruit tray
And the customary ritual of the filtering ceremony just as above
She did the right thing and she told her child:
Since doing it this way
She feels lighter in spirit
Every morning when she wakes up
She felt happy seeing the tray of fruits
Shopping became more enjoyable
Customers seeing her cheerful demeanor
Were more inclined to make purchases
Gradually as regular customers increased so did
the earnings She said "Teacher I don't know exactly where the blessings come
from but ever since I started
doing things the right way I've felt a change "
My life is completely different now
Revered brethren
That's precisely the power of the integrated solution
Correct physical action
Combined with
pure mental energy
these two elements together
generate a powerful force that
will activate the fortune portal
Not activated through magic but through psychological principles and
energy In the Earth Store Sutra the
Bodhisattva of Fundamental Vows states:
Bodhisattva male devotee
Female devotee
Name of the Buddha Wenshi
Chanting the Buddha's name
Offering the fragrance of wisdom as incense
This person's wish is fulfilled
Gaining immeasurable mer
If someone hears the name of the Buddha
chants the name of the Buddha
or offers incense and worship
that person will accumulate boundless merit
This is not superstition
That is the law of the mind:
sincerity in heart
reverence in action
and blessings naturally arrive
the key is not greed but a mind at peace
When the mind is content it finds peace
when the mind is at peace actions become
right when actions are right blessings
naturally follow Let
me share this with you
A short story to help you clearly
see the power of a proper five-
fruit tray when arranged correctly
and paired with the right filter
Dear everyone
Let me tell you
about Mr Hung from Bac Ninh
Mr Hung is in the construction business
He takes on small building projects
Previously every Lunar New Year he would
meticulously arrange a
five-fruit tray featuring
only imported fruits—
American apples Korean
pears Chilean grapes and New Zealand kiwis
Vibrant and lively yet overwhelming
at first glance—no focal
point no center of attention
And strangely it feels off
Every year after Tet he runs into problems with his
work—sometimes losing the
deposit because the developer
changes their mind other years facing worker demands
for higher wages and ultimately having to give up
Within a year materials suddenly skyrocketed in price then vanished again—
He was extremely worried
Thought it was fate
Thought it was karma
Last year a friend introduced him to me He asked me
about house feng shui I went
to his house to take a look
His house is grand and well-built the
orientation is favorable
but when I saw
the tray of five fruits on the altar there were far
too many kinds of fruit and far too many colors
And most importantly
no rootstock
Just small fruits on the bamboo
And she said to him
Oh this fruit tray is beautiful
But without earth energy without
a solid foundation your work
will easily be unsettled You ask "So how should you guide me "
Teach you the method of the five elements
interwoven harmony: select a large round golden pomelo place it
squarely in the center and
beside it place an additional Buddha earth fruit
These two fruits serve as
the centerpiece surrounded by
crushed grapes and green grapes
filling the platter neatly
Place three red dragon fruits in front
Create a focal point
Add a few small red apples
Clear clutter enhance positive energy
The fruit tray after rearranging
Much simpler in appearance
But far more harmonious
Focused full of energy
He gazes ahead
He says
Funny why does looking at this tray make my heart feel so much calmer
And teach me how to lock the filter
When placing the tray on the altar
Raise the elbow level high
maintain a
cheerful mind gently
set it down then recite: Nam
Mô Đa Bảo Như Lai three times
Quan thought the golden light
Shone onto the fruit tray
Then spread throughout the house
And also taught him something more
Every morning waking up before going to work
Pause briefly before the offering tray
Gaze upon it
Whisper a silent thanksgiving to heaven and earth for blessings received in full
Thank your ancestors for their protection and guidance
Thank you Buddha for your protection
Then I went to work
He followed the path
as instructed At first he wasn't very
convinced but he kept at it consistently
Every day is the same
The result was truly surprising
On the first day of the year a major project came looking for him
The developer
Introduced by a previous client
the contract was signed hastily
the deposit was insufficient yet
the project proceeded smoothly
The material prices also
didn't spike suddenly
as usual workers are putting in steady effort
no one is demanding an unexpected pay raise
and no one has quit midway through the project
By year's end he completed the project on schedule the investor
was highly satisfied
payments were made promptly and they even
referred him to two additional projects
His profits that year
were significantly
higher than in previous years
allowing him to pay off an old debt
and purchase a truck to support his work
Mr Hung called his son at the end of the year
He said
Sir I don't know how to explain it
But everything this year has gone too smoothly
From childhood to adulthood everything has
always gone smoothly He
thought it was probably
because she followed her teacher's instructions
exactly She told him "It's not magic you know "
It's because his mindset changed
when he set the tray
properly his mind
felt steady and with a steady mind his decisions about work became stronger
When the decision
is firm good results
are inevitable Mr Hung
realized this and said "That's right—this
year I feel less
anxious less rushed "
Be more careful when taking on projects—no more
accepting random jobs just for high fees like
before choose the right projects and execute
them properly and the results will come naturally
This is a classic example of
the power of the five-fruit
tray—when arranged properly
it's not superstition nor magic
That is the law of psychology and
energy: a properly
arranged offering tray
brings balance into the home balanced
energy helps stabilize the human mind
Stable mind leads to right action
Right action
Leads to good outcomes
In the Ming Xin Bu Ji it says
Virtue and merit reside in the mother
Feng Shui is a powerful auspicious aid
accumulated virtue and merit bring blessings
No matter how good
your feng shui may
be it won't save you if you're doing wrong
but if you do good
deeds and add favorable
feng shui it's like giving a tiger wings
Just as a boat glides with the wind
placing the five-fruit tray properly is
precisely that powerful auspicious support
—it cannot replace meritorious deeds
Yet it accelerates
the manifestation
of merit—stronger more enduring
Venerable assembly we have journeyed
together through a long path
From understanding the principles of the five elements
in flower arrangements to exploring the meanings
behind each type of fruit to creating vibrant displays
and mastering the art of securing prosperity effectively
Now
I'd like to summarize the most essential points
Just five things
These five points
If you remember and follow them correctly
Your five-fruit offering
Will become a powerful emanation of auspicious energy
First
Firm foundation
Must include at least one large fru
Located in the
center of the tray
tangerine or Buddha's hand fruit
is ideal—it forms the foundation
and serves as the cornerstone
It is the foundation of all energy on the
board without a stable
earth the other elements
cannot manifest their power The I Ching
states: "The earth's position is unyielding "
A noble person carries all things through profound virtue
the earth's nature is enduring
and the noble person embodies
this deep virtue to sustain
all things—this enduring virtue
is the earth's strength its capacity to bear and support
The second point: Wood energy flourishes
when gifts of the wood element are
present—such as fresh juicy fruits or
other green items—to generate vital
energy
They fill the emptiness
Creating a sense of abundance
Wood represents growth
It signifies development
Without wood
The tray becomes hard and dry
Lacking vitality
In the Dao De Jing it says:
When people are alive they are soft and yielding
When they are dead they become stiff and rigid
The living are flexible and gentle
The dead are rigid and inflexible
As long as it's alive it remains supple once
dead it becomes dry and rigid The wood on
the offering tray
embodies that very vitality The third element: fire
and stored energy
There must be at least one red-colored
gift to create a focal point—red
dragon fruit or red apples—they
energize positive qi
and spark excitement
Life within the tray is vibrant
—fire is light it is heat it is
activation As stated in the
Emperor's Book of Celestial Stars
Light brings fortune
Bright fire means good luck
The flame on the offering tray is that light
The fourth element
Water flow and movement
There must be a water element to
facilitate the flow
of energy—this could
be green grapes water oil citrus
or honey water enables wood to grow
Water balances fire
Water ensures everything flows without obstruction
The Dao De Jing contains the phrase
The highest good is like water
Water benefits
all things without
contention the highest good
is like water which nourishes
all beings yet does not strive
The presence of water on the ceremonial tray symbolizes benefit and prosperity
Fifth principle: Metal
retains wealth It must
have a bright yellow color to enhance metal
energy Metal is generated by earth Metal
helps preserve wealth
Metal brings stability
Kim makes the tray sturdy
The Analects say
A noble person remains steadfast in poverty
A petty person poor becomes greedy
The noble person remains
composed in hardship
The petty person
is easily swayed but
Jin is steadfast—
discipline the ability
to hold onto what is yours Remember
these five things: a firm foundation
Wood flourishes Fire
ignites Water flows Metal
retains wealth the tray
aligns with the correct
element the year matches
the proper fortune and
above all the most crucial
element is the heart
The five offerings are merely tools the
mind is the root If
your mind is not pure no
matter how beautiful the offering plate may
be it will not be effective If your mind is
Greed hatred delusion
— then the energy you
emit will also be negative
energy Negative energy
It will destroy all good feng shui
The Buddha taught
In the ancient Dharma sutras
If a person creates harm
The mind itself destroys itself
If a person creates goodness
The mind itself knows
what is right If one
commits a wrong the mind knows it is wrong
If one does good the mind knows it is good
The mind is the most
impartial judge of all
Tâm is the most accurate observer
therefore when you set out the
five offerings keep your heart
pure filled with
joy and gratitude
Thank you heaven and earth for granting
harmonious rain and sunshine thank you the
land for nurturing the five grains our
ancestors for passing down our cherished culture
Thank you Buddha for
teaching us the path to
liberation when the mind
is grateful it becomes
content when the mind
is content it finds peace
when the mind is at peace
blessings naturally arrive
Finally I offer blessings to all present:
may you all in this peaceful year of Binh Ngo enjoy peace and harmony and may
your home be a place
of safety and return
It is your foundation
the source of energy enabling you to reach the world
if your family life is peaceful
everything beyond it
becomes effortless
In this context there is a saying
Cultivate yourself before governing the state bring peace to
the world first
refine yourself then
harmonize your family
only then can you accomplish great things
May all of you be blessed with smooth progress in
your endeavors—smooth progress does not mean there are no obstacles but rather
that despite encountering difficulties
you are still able to overcome them
Even when encountering obstacles one still finds a way
forward In the Book of Changes it says: "Heaven's movement
is vigorous the noble person strives for self-improvement without ceasing " Heaven's
movement is mighty and ceaseless
A noble person never ceases to strengthen
themselves this constant progress is precisely self-
improvement May all of you be blessed with lasting prosperity—not fleeting
wealth but enduring abundance
Wealth earned gradually
wealth that is secure
wealth gained through honest work wealth
accumulated through meritorious deeds—within
the heart the inner mirror bears this truth
Good deeds naturally bring blessings
There is always surplus fortune
A family that accumulates good deeds
Will surely have abundant blessings
Lasting prosperity
Comes from virtue and charitable acts
May all of you always be supported
by kindred spirits—those who are not
powerful or influential but genuine
souls who stand by
you in times of need
You are the one who guides me when I'm lost
You are the one who lifts me up when I fall
The Analects say
When three people walk together
There is always something I
can learn from one of them
There is always someone who can guide
us benefactors are everywhere—just need
eyes to see them May
all beings be blessed
with ever-increasing clarity of mind
Wisdom is not merely
intelligence it is
understanding cause and effect knowing
what should and should not be done and
living in accordance with the Dharma
In the Diamond Sutra it says:
All conditioned phenomena
Are like dreams illusions bubbles and shadows
All conditioned things
Are as fleeting as dreams and illusions
When the light shines we will
clearly see this and live in peace
amidst life for now let us
conclude today's Dharma talk here
