kicked off a birthday celebration for George Washington in Springfield.
Today, 22 News reporter Sarah Biennium a joins us live in studio with a
closer look at the proclamation ceremony. That's right. Nicosia are
for about 10 years now. The D. A. R. Mercy Warren chapter has held a
reflame ceremony for our nation's first president. George Washington's
birthday is recognized as President's Day. If he was alive today, he would
have been turning 294 years old. As the founding father, he accomplished
so much for the United States. He established the U. S. Navy in 1794 and
even visited Springfield, Massachusetts to choose the site for the Springfield
Armory.
We honor him every February, not only February, but actually every day
because he was an important man for our country and to honor him, they prayed
for a proclamation and then later reef near the George Washington statue at
the Holy Name Church campus in Springfield. This is one of 38 statues
across the world. The original marble sculpture is in George Washington's
home state and this year is unique as it is the 250th anniversary of the
signing of the Declaration of Independence. Working for you, Sarah
