Hi, it's Polly.
And I'm Holly.
And today we're gonna teach you 10 ways to stop
on roller skates.
Let's go.
Okay, you guys, I know this one's controversial,
the toe stop where you drag your back foot like this.
It's honestly my favorite way to stop
and it's the only way that I stop on these skates.
It's you basically just drag your toe
the whole way down a hill.
It gets a little bumpy.
It's a little scary for your ankle at times.
I once posted a video.
And in the comments, I was told,
you're gonna break your ankle.
Please don't stop like that.
I was taught to teach roller skaters to stop,
boom, scissor, toe stop.
I guess the way to do it and the safer way to do it
and the smarter way to do it
is to actually turn fakie and do it 180.
So we'll go turn 180, stop on our toes.
Then there's the spin stop
where you just bring your feet together
and let yourself spin to a stop.
And if you do it slower, it's a half spin.
Faster for a full spin.
So sometimes when you're skating,
you can do lemon drops and go wide
and then come back together.
Now, if you wanna do a plow stop,
it's basically a lemon drop.
But what you're gonna wanna do is go wide,
tight Kegel squeeze, bring it in,
go wide, and then a tighter squeeze.
There's also making a turn.
We'll always stop you or slow you down.
You could just make a sharp turn.
Okay, so what's next?
The T-stop.
Oh, I don't know how to do that.
I'm not doing that one.
Up next is the T-stop.
On rollerblades, you absolutely use the inside edge
and you get this inside edge angle.
And I've seen videos of professional roller skaters
saying this is the same.
But I've also seen videos with professionals
on roller skates saying the T-stop is like this.
Ice skates.
Try both, see which one you like.
For me as a rollerblader
and a rollerblader on roller skates,
another way to stop is to just veer off into the grass.
If you're going really fast,
you just kinda dive into the grass
and it's softer than concrete if you fall.
It'll stop you or slow you down.
Brace for impact.
What?
Brace for impact.
Brace for impact?
What does that even mean?
You're about to like.
Oh, brace, like bend your knees.
Okay, I see.
If you're going really fast or out of control,
the best thing to do is to just get low.
Because if you get low, you might save your fall.
Or if you do go down,
you'll soften the impact of your crash.
What you want to avoid is a crash stop.
So when you're going pretty fast
and there's something in your way,
just crashing into it is not a good idea.
Just avoid it.
Go back to the beginning of the video.
Find the other ways to stop.
Can't stop, I can't stop.
Can't stop.
I don't even know why that is a good way to stop.
You don't even stop.
It really just slows you down, kind of.
