I need to tell you something.
Are you ready for this?
It's my birthday.
Yes, it is my birthday.
That is for real.
That is not clickbait.
It is happening.
And I am spending it right here in Toronto.
Toronto has a very special place in my heart.
My family's actually from here, so every visit feels like coming home.
And after a massive few days in New York with my sister and my dad, I am really ready to
slow things down and soak up the magic that is Canadian summer.
Especially in the summer.
Especially since this episode is sponsored by a very special Canadian brand, Unbound
Merino.
We'll talk about them a little later, but right now, it's time to hit the streets.
So later on tonight, we're going to do something a little bit crazy.
Things are going to get real weird, but we'll get to that later.
Right now, I want to start in a place I completely missed last time I was in Toronto, Ossington.
Now, this place is meant to be the coolest street in all of Toronto.
Now, if you know me, you know that I love pizza.
And apparently, one of the very best pizzas in Toronto happened right here, and I think
I can see the queue for it.
That has to be the queue for it.
What else are people queuing for if not the best pizza in Canada?
Hi, can I please grab a slice of the burrata marinara and some hot honey?
The line in here is really long, but I feel like it's going to be worth it.
Now, there is a little bit of seating outside the pizzeria and a few spots you could even
stand inside and outside, but if you walk like 100 meters down the street to the Oslo
Playground, you have these beautiful tables and chairs set up underneath some gorgeous
trees.
It is so peaceful and so spacious down here, and that is exactly what I'm in the mood for.
I get a slice of the marinara burrata pizza and hot honey.
You guys, I'm new in the world of hot honey, and I am very happy to be here.
A lot of locals recommended this place to me, so that can mean one of two things.
Number one, it's amazing, local approved, everybody raves about it for a reason.
Or two, it is extremely overhyped.
You know me, you know I'm going to be honest with you about it.
Let's try this thing.
Yeah.
Okay.
So, up until this moment, the best slice of pizza I have ever had happened in Brooklyn.
As of now, it's happening at the Oslo Playground in Toronto, compliments of Batty Alley.
It's perfect.
The base is no notes, 10 out of 10.
I prefer a thin base.
It's crispy.
Can you see all of this lovely crispy lightness we have going on here?
Stunning.
The marinara, mamma mia.
It's so flavoursome and rich.
There's so many herbs and good garlic in there.
Baradero's perfection.
The hot honey sets it off.
That's a good slice of pizza.
That is good pizza.
Since we're in Toronto, it feels like a great time to share one of my favourite Canadian
brands and this week's video sponsor, Unbound Merino.
Now, when they reached out to me and said they wanted to send me some clothes, I was
like, you guys need to send me a bunch of stuff a couple of weeks before I'm going to
film it so I can put it through the ultimate travel tests and figure out if I really do
like it and if I do, what it is I like about it.
And you guys, I love it.
I love it.
And here's why.
Merino wool is naturally antibacterial and odour resistant, so it never smells.
That means fewer washes and way less laundry.
I wore this t-shirt for six days in a row in the Canadian heat and you know what?
It has no smell.
It just smells clean and fresh and I even shoved it in the bottom of my suitcase and
it still, it still has no smell.
For me as a traveller, that kind of thing is a game changer.
That means fewer washes, longer wear out of absolutely everything and for me that is essential.
It also regulates your temperature, keeping you cool when it's hot and cosy when it's
chilly.
Everything is sustainably and ethically sourced, cruelty free and designed to help travellers
pack lighter, simpler and smarter.
I travel full time with a capsule wardrobe that's high quality pieces I can mix and match
that still look and feel amazing and Armbound Merino ticks all those boxes.
I have popped a link in the video description for you so you can check out Armbound Merino
and start building your perfect travel wardrobe for your next adventure too.
And keep an eye out for me rocking mine in some future vlogs.
Ayyyyy!
There's no denying, Ossington is a really cool part of Toronto.
I see why so many of you were so mad that I missed it last time.
What's interesting about this place is that it used to be home to dye bars and repair
shops and now it is home to awesome shopping and food during the day but if you came here
during the night, it is the spot to come for great restaurants and hidden bars.
Apparently, the bar scene here, incredible, if you love a drink, this is the spot to come.
I feel like today is a day of trying Toronto's most viral, high rated foods and seeing if
they're any good.
And this one should be a good one.
I told my cousin where I was and he was like, you have to go to Andrea's Cookies.
So I've come to Andrea's Cookies.
Now, if you saw my New York episode, you will know I went to Crumble and flippin' hated
it.
Zero out of ten.
For sure, the worst cookie I've ever had in my life.
I've got a box of three for $14.50.
Let's start with chocolate chunk.
Oh, immediately better than Crumble.
Crumble tasted like nothing.
That's not true, it didn't taste like nothing, it tasted like plastic crap.
This tastes nice and buttery, chocolatey, just good.
I like that.
Let's try a bite of, yes, cousin, I'm sorry if you're watching this, I did take a bite
of all of them before I gave you the cookies, but we're family, so deal with it.
This one is Dunkaroo.
The Dunkaroo is really good.
The cookie is super buttery, soft and chewy, but that's how you like your cookies, you
are going to love these.
And last but not least, Kinder.
They all have that similar undertone flavour.
Super buttery, super chewy, super soft.
My number one cookie of all time is still from New York, Levain Bakeries.
Chocolate chip cookie, that thing is my number one all time, but these actually, really good.
I told you guys that things are going to get weird tonight.
That time has come.
In fact, medieval time has come.
We're going to medieval times.
Yay!
And we're going with my cousin Shawn.
I saw all your mean comments on the last video.
What did they say to you?
What did they say?
I know about Toronto history, because I wasn't alive in the 50s.
Shawn got trolled.
He got roasted in the comments.
He's not okay with it.
He's back for revenge on all of you.
Whoa, this is already great.
This is already great.
This is a dream of mine.
You guys don't understand.
I have wanted to go to medieval times forever.
This is like the ultimate birthday activity for me.
Thank you.
My God, Shawn.
It's so good already.
The red card is the noble Phoebe.
Oh my God.
I'm getting knighted.
Excellent ladies.
I'm joining up here.
Hi.
I'm going to have you stand right here beside me.
This is the lady Phoebe being raised up to become a princess of the realm this night.
She is celebrating a happy birthday.
Oh, happy birthday, my lady.
Very happy birthday to you.
Thank you.
By the grace of God, St. Michael and St. George, I daphi once, twice, thrice, and proclaim
thee a true princess of the realm.
Thank you so much.
Princess Phoebe gets to have her very own magical sword, royal weapon.
Royal weapon.
For the alliance, Dickie.
For the alliance.
This is the happiest day of my life.
This is awesome.
We're inside the tournament stadium thing.
I don't really know.
There's a lot happening real fast.
I have no idea what to expect.
What are your thoughts on the medieval time so far?
I'm trying to watch.
It's incredible.
This is electric.
It's theater.
Falcon just came out.
War Eagle.
It's got everything.
Our knight's a dog.
Our knight's got that dog in here, man.
That red knight.
Now let me tell you about the food because this is not just a show.
You also get a meal.
I was not expecting much.
I was like, how good can it be?
Especially because I got the vegetarian option.
You know what?
The food slaps.
It's really good.
You guys do not understand how good this is.
It has everything.
It has drama.
It has murder.
It has jousting.
It has chicken.
It has alcohol.
If you're wondering if medieval times is a good time, it's a really good time.
You enjoyed it?
It brought back memories of fourth grade for me.
Good morning, you guys.
And welcome to one of the coolest places in Toronto.
I'm talking, of course, about Kensington Market.
Now, last time I was here, it was winter.
I was here with my cousin and it was about to start raining and we were really in a rush.
So we had to belt it around these streets.
Today, I wanted to come back and slow down and take my time.
I really want to get stuck into it because there is so much to see, do and eat around here.
Let's get into it.
It is an absolutely gorgeous day here in Toronto and I'm starting my gorgeous day off in Kensington Market.
And I'm not alone, as you can see.
This is my beautiful friend, Connie.
Hi, everybody.
We're so happy to be here at the lovely Fika Cafe.
Connie, much like myself, is a coffee addict.
She's had several this morning and we were getting ready to meet.
And she's like, don't worry, I've had several.
I can fit more in.
So we're two girls with three drinks and a cinnamon bun.
All in preparation for a big day here in Kensington Market.
A big day in Kensington Market, a big day of food and shopping is on the cards.
Yes, I already see a few vintage shops that I was eyeing on my way here to check out.
Let's start with the coffee.
I've got the classic flat white with the oat milk, as you know.
That's really good coffee, actually.
Somebody on this channel requested a Melbourne coffee rating comparison.
If a Melbourne is a 10 out of 10, I would say that's a strong 8.5, which is good.
Now, in addition to that, we also got something experimental.
This is one of their specials.
It's a matcha rose latte.
Let's just try that as well.
Do you know, I actually almost like that more than the coffee.
That's really good, actually.
The matcha is really good and I really enjoy the rose flavor.
OK, this is Connie's first time on the vlog and she's about to do her first review.
Thank you.
Yes, so I also oat milk, but chose the cappuccino.
That is very tasty.
It's really good, right?
I do have a bit of a slightly different take.
I've not been to Melbourne, but I've been to many other parts of Australia
and I think I'm giving it between like a 7 to 8 in comparison.
So Kensington Market has been around since the early 1900s
and this whole neighborhood is so colorful and vibrant.
You're not going to find chain stores here.
It's much more local.
Lots of people hand making things and really cool, unique stuff.
Now, if you love thrift shopping, this is your place.
There's so many good thrift stores and lots of great food and cafes too.
No, we made our way to a place I've never been before
and we're here for one thing and one thing only.
It's a place I have been dreaming about for weeks.
And we came hungry.
Do you remember when froyo was like the thing and you went to the froyo shop
and you like put all your toppings on it?
This is that before acai and I love acai and I miss the froyo moment
and for these guys to bring it back, it's just making me really happy.
I did my best to try and make mine look pretty.
I don't know if I succeeded at that.
But Connie actually made a good point.
She's like, you were just in Brazil having the authentic stuff.
And I was, Connie, but part of me thinks this might be better.
Because like there you just have limited kind of toppings.
My mouth is watering.
Ready?
Ready.
Do you want the cheers?
Yeah, cheers.
Shut it down.
Yeah, this is the right choice.
Oh my God.
I like that it's the swirl of acai.
They did the work for you.
And the thing is, I love tart froyo, like natural frozen yogurt.
I like how that cuts through the sweetness.
I like that I got to choose everything.
I mean, I think it was pretty well priced.
It was a bit expensive.
It was $30 for two, was it?
About that?
Yeah, but I mean, we went, we got all the toppings that we want.
We didn't hold back.
And this is our lunch, to be fair.
I really like that.
It is the most beautiful day here in Toronto.
The sun is shining.
The sky is blue.
It is peak Canadian summer.
And we are going to take advantage of that.
So we're heading across to Toronto Island.
I have never been here before, but Sean, my cousin, and our two friends say it's awesome.
So we're just going to do it.
We're going to a spot called Wards.
And to get there, catching a pirate ship.
I'm not joking.
There are three main points.
Yeah, three main points.
This is Hanlan's Point.
It's famous for its nude beach.
This is Centre Island, famous for Centreville Amusement Park.
And then we are at Wards Island.
It is the most chill spot.
And it has...
This is a neighbourhood that you can only live in this neighbourhood if you are on a long, long waiting list.
And most of the houses are passed down among family members.
Okay, so you guys just saw cousin Sean.
And then also we have two other friends with us.
Hey, how's it going?
My name is Eric.
I'm Emily.
We're a couple.
I love that.
I mean, my immediate first impression is that this place is beautiful.
It's so charming.
I feel like I'm walking through some kind of a fairy tale village.
We're just making our way through some of the little streets with houses lined either side.
And they're so cute and quaint.
And they have all these pretty flowers and beautiful lush trees overhead.
The energy here is so different to Toronto.
You kind of escape that big city rush.
And then you come over here and it just feels like...
Like you can relax.
It's lovely.
We have rolled out hot to the Rum Shack.
Is that what this place is called?
Rum Shack, baby.
They have a DJ who is taking song requests.
They have a cute song list.
This place is a real vibe.
Very colourful.
Sit out here under the umbrellas.
They have like a simple little food menu.
We're not going to eat here though, are we?
Our leader, Em is officially our leader.
You decide what we do.
We pack snacks from home.
Excellent.
I like that.
Oh yeah.
A place called The Wreck Room.
And we're racing motorbikes.
It's a Cousin V Cousin showdown.
Oh no.
Oh no, I've crashed.
I've crashed.
Hey!
In an act of perfect timing,
our table is actually ready.
It's a really beautiful day here
so we're going to go sit out in the sun,
have something to eat, get a drink.
Just relax.
Enjoy the weather.
Cheers.
Now of course,
you cannot come to Toronto in the summer
without catching a Blue Jays game.
The energy here at Rogers Centre
is honestly unreal.
The crack of the bat,
the sea of blue jerseys
and that perfect blend of sports,
snacks and sunshine.
And honestly, it doesn't matter
if you're a diehard fan
or a baseball newbie like me,
you are going to love the atmosphere.
I cannot recommend this enough.
Make sure you add a Blue Jays game
to your Toronto itinerary.
And with that you guys,
that brings this week's episode,
our time here in Toronto
and my birthday to a close.
I really hope you have enjoyed all three.
