Hi I'm Ellen the founder of Slow Living Home a shop and online store specializing interior design for a slow intentional lifestyle
Today I'd like to talk a bit about sustainable interior design and share some tips on how to think when you want to decorate in a more sustainable way
Number one My first tip is to decorate with things you
actually like Ignore trends because trends will pass
You'll want to decorate with things that stand the test of time
If you're struggling to get a handle on the project my advice is to create a mood board before you start
More details on how to do this can be found in the description
But a good plan always leads to fewer mistakes and is sustainable
Point number two: decorate with things you already have
Sometimes all it takes is rearranging the furniture or taking down a lamp from the window that’s been sitting there for who knows how long
Make the most of what you have—paint an old cabinet
Using what you already have is the most sustainable option as you aren't purchasing anything new
Point three Along the same lines as point two
Please consider vintage secondhand and used items
There's an endless amount available online
It's incredibly easy today to find used furniture in every interior style and price range
Number four When you're finally ready to buy something new
Focus on quality over quantity Ditch the throwaway mentality
Products that stand the test of time are worth the investment even if they're slightly more expensive upfront
It's also true that when you buy high-quality goods you can often resell them later
When you no longer wish to use them yourself and it's circular
Point number five Clean up
This applies to all interior designs in all environments at all times
To decorate with many items without making
it look cluttered is a skill few master
So clean up Get rid of what you don't need
Cleaning is just as good for the soul as it is for the home
It also teaches us that we don’t need
so many things Simply buy less buy better
