How do Germans live and what are they really like Germany Lab Hello we're Nina and David from Germany Lab We answer questions about Germany and the Germans Today we're discussing art—how important is it to Germans How often do they visit museums and why Many Germans are interested in art or create art themselves There are 630 art museums and numerous galleries showcasing paintings drawings or sculptures The most famous and largest museums are found in major cities but even small towns and villages often have intriguing little museums We'd like to know do you like art I think art is great it enriches the world I can't quite understand this modern art But if it's truly a work of art something where you can clearly see real talent then I do like it I can't make any sense of art at all So I think art is fantastic I also enjoy visiting museums and I like painting as well Where do you usually view art In museums Everywhere perhaps occasionally in a gallery Art books coffee table books The beauty of art is that you can choose for yourself whether or not you want to look at it Exhibitions featuring world-renowned international artists are extremely popular Here in Düsseldorf Nina and David visit the Kunstpalast a large museum This place features both classical and contemporary works often by artists from the local area Many were trained just nearby at the Düsseldorf Art Academy And now we'd like to learn more about the small museums in Germany That's why we're heading to the Max Ernst Museum in Brühl Max Ernst was a renowned German painter and sculptor In his hometown of Brühl there is a museum showcasing his works Mr Dr Sommer what kind of art can be found here in the museum Yes quite diverse art We have large sculptures as you can see behind us We have paintings we have drawings on paper and we have collages Here we see the desert blooming after a heavy rain And we watch the flowers bloom on the cacti And it's simply absolutely fantastic—you can just step right in and see it for yourself But is that your interpretation now or does the image actually depict the desert The image is titled Arizona Desert After the Rain What can we learn from art We can learn that there are other worlds beyond the one we experience in everyday life Take us on a journey elsewhere—into a journey of imagination Art is important to the Germans There are many renowned artists and numerous museums throughout Germany But how does art work and can we do it too Time for a little experiment David and Nina are looking for people to paint with them They don’t have to wait long Many are having great fun Finished Germans love going to museums to view art But you can also create art yourself for instance on the street All you need is imagination and a love for art Exactly check this out—I painted a picture of us both in the lab How lovely that's me No that's you Well as long as you had fun
