Okay, guys, we're going to start things off here.
We just wanted to welcome everyone here today. Buona sera. Welcome to Tuscany.
We're so happy to see all of your faces here today. It means the world to us that you guys
came all the way from all over to make this a very special weekend for us.
We especially want to thank our parents, Megan, John, as well as Barbara and Andy
for their love, their support, their generosity to make this wedding awesome.
We're really so grateful, and this is the part that Jen and I talked about when I put the speech
together. We're so grateful to have friends who've turned into family. And
I mean, really more than anything, cheers to, first,
a lot more travel around the world with the people you love. Everyone here.
My daughter, Emmy, is wonderful. My daughter, Emmy, is the third light of my life.
I remember the day she was born like it was yesterday. My parents dropped me off at a
friend's house, and when I woke up the next morning, boom, I had a brand new baby sister.
I went to the hospital, saw this tiny little person, and thought, I'm going to take care of
her. What I didn't realize back then that I know now is that she'd actually be the one taking care
of me. My little big sister, Emmy, I am so proud of you. I've loved every stage of watching you
become you, my little big sister. And now here we are at the most beautiful stage yet, standing
beside you as you marry the love of your life and the light of all of our lives, Max. I could not be
happier for the both of you. So here's to Emmy and Max. May your marriage be full of laughter,
adventure, and love, and may our group chats forever remain filled with the finest, juiciest,
most questionable meat chunks.
We've been together nearly seven years, and I think that's longer than I've ever done or been
a part of anything else before. In those years, it feels like we've lived 10 different lives and
experienced enough to fill 20. Max, I trust you wholeheartedly. I love how fiercely protective
and loyal you are, and how from day one you've made my life lighter and more fun. I love how
much you love your family. I remember that first Christmas all together, my first Christmas ever,
watching you all, watching you with your three brothers. As the eldest of four, a role you take
very seriously, I saw you all quoting movies for hours, cracking up and talking at a volume that
rivals even my girlfriends. But what I loved most was seeing you so at ease, so comfortable in your
own skin, and so proud to just be sitting on that couch with your three younger brothers. The way
you hold your family unit so secret is something I drift to think about often, because I know that's
the same love and appreciation you'll give our future family. So Max, I promise to always support
you, be honest with you, love you every day, and to always be your movie theater companion.
I love knowing that for the rest of my life, I'll get to hear your little musical sounds
and spot-on impersonations through the hallways of wherever we choose to live, and I'll get to
share dinner plates with you forever. So Max Rosenau, today and every day I choose you.
I love you so much, and I can't wait to spend the rest of my life with you.
Emmy, I'm so grateful for how much I've grown alongside you over the years. Thinking back to
2018 when we first met, I remember how you completely changed my perspective on New York.
I had moved to the city without knowing a soul, without a clue about the restaurants and
neighborhoods to go to, and that all changed one day when we met at a company happy hour,
I still remember how kind and genuine you are, and even now I admire your grounded mindset,
your tenacity, your compassion for people and animals, your sense of humor, and your
selflessness. When I was seven, my parents moved me and my brothers to a new house
on a cul-de-sac in Fairfield, Connecticut. The street is called Emmy Lane. It became a place
I called home, where I felt safe, where I grew up with my family, where I could truly be myself.
For years, I wrote 24 Emmy Lane on every backpack, every lunchbox, my first day of school.
I'm sorry. So the name Emmy has been woven into my childhood, and now 30 years later,
I stand here marrying the love of my life, whose name has been part of me all along.
It's Bechert because you and Emmy Lane represent the same things to me,
security, compassion, family. Emmy will always be an essential part of who I am,
and I love this example of destiny more than anything in the world, and I remember telling
you about Emmy Lane on our first date, and you didn't believe me, so I had to pull out
my license in the middle of the bar and prove it to you. It's something I'll always cherish,
the Bechert of it all, and just as I vow to honor that, I vow to always be your partner.
In new adventures, in difficult times, in every leap of faith,
I vow to love you with every part of me, and to love and support our children the same way.
Most importantly, I vow to always be your person in everything that life brings us.
You will forever be my favorite human, my rock, my Emmy Lane. I love you.
And points all around, sudden way up high
Way up firm and high, out past the cornfields where the woods got heavy
Out in the back seat of my 60 Chevy, working on mysteries without any clues
Working on our night moves, working on our night moves
A sweet summertime, we weren't in love, oh no, far from it
We weren't searching for some kindness by some
We were just young and restless and bored, living by the sword
And we'd steal away every chance we could
From that room to the alley of the trusty woods
I used us, she used me, but neither one cared
We were getting our share, working on our night moves
Trying to lose the awkward teenage blues, working on our night moves
So first of all, thank everybody for coming all this way to this beautiful spot.
It's absolutely gorgeous, and Emmy and Max arranged this whole thing,
and I think they deserve a lot of credit for that.
I mean, Barbara and I were kind of advised on the way, but they did all the planning,
and we had nothing to do with this wonderful celebration other than contributing.
Contributing, contributing a lot.
Anyway, I think it's just wonderful seeing all of the friends here,
from all the different categories of friendship, from camp to school to work
to every place that you've met, all these wonderful people,
and it's just great to be among so many young people.
It makes us feel young.
So, I don't want to talk too long, but I want to welcome Max to the family.
We never had a son.
And now we do.
Our wish is simple for both of you.
May your love grow stronger every year,
and may your home always be a place of comfort and laughter,
and may you always find each other a safe harbor,
best friend, and of course, endless joy.
Emmy, you have expanded Max into a most incredible man,
and I do attribute your gracious and kind ways and your kindness towards us.
So, I welcome you.
Obviously, Max knows this.
Open heart, always an open heart and open arms for you, my dearest, into our family.
So, Max and Emmy, we wish you the best.
We wish you the best, the best in the world.
Cheers, best of health, best of adventures, back in New York.
Or wherever it takes Max and Emmy.
God bless.
Cheers.
A moment of love
