I no longer wish to be constantly running around the country as I'm getting older and my health isn't what it used to be
So I decided to use the soilless growing method then planted tomatoes eggplants and peppers
That's how I plant my lotuses spaced apart so they don't cross-pollinate too much
Whenever I prune my plants I always use the clippings to make compost
The description is very simple—just chop them into small pieces
After planting I need to cover the soil with straw to retain warmth for
longer and the compost layer will also stay from drying out too quickly
I only need to water it thoroughly on the first day
and then just once a week after that That's all I'll do
That's why farming this way is truly effortless I
grow a lot yet I don't have to work excessively hard
Spring is the perfect time to get started on gardening
Weeds and wild plants grew unchecked along the fence surrounding my house
Instead of letting these weeds grow wild like this I'd rather grow something more useful
This is the sweet potato vine I've planted
The old roots still remain deep underground
These are the creeping branches now dead and dried up
A type of snack my family really enjoys eating
So I'd like to plant more along this fence
But the problem is I don't want to have to dig up the yard again
I'm getting on in years and no longer as healthy as I used to be so I've
decided to implement the crack-free planting method right here in this area
What I'm doing is simple—just cutting or trimming back this long grass
The garden looked neat and orderly far more disciplined after I trimmed it and stopped trampling the long grass for a while
This is the jackfruit tree being overtaken by wild sweet potato
vines The wild sweet potato vines have grown too tall
I can no longer reach to pick the shoots or the rhizomes
Anyway they'll stop growing by the end of the month anyway
and won't sprout back until May at the earliest
So right now I can safely cut them off
I also need to cut down the moringa
tree because it's grown too tall
When I cut it back new shoots will grow and then harvesting
the leaves regularly for eating will become much easier
Every part of the drumstick tree including its stems and leaves makes an exceptionally excellent source of organic material for composting
Because balsa wood is extremely soft it decomposes very quickly
The trick here is that I need to chop them up really finely
I will never let go of any branch or remnant in this area for they are all part of my land
Whenever I prune trees and shrubs I always use the clippings to make compost
The preparation is very
simple—just chop them into very small pieces Make sure to cut them really short
Once chopped pile them together
They will be tightly bound together again
And thus the decomposition process will occur very quickly
Because when they are packed tightly together water evaporates more slowly
As a result microorganisms can easily break them down
Conversely if you leave large
branches intact air can flow freely
causing the water to evaporate rapidly thereby
preventing microorganisms from thriving and growing
That pile of branches would clatter and
remain exposed there for a long lingering while
But whenever we chop them
up and pack them tightly
together decomposition happens extremely quickly
Even with branches this large I make the
most of them—just cut
them into short pieces
Not exceeding about 30 cm in length
they are directly scattered onto the ground
where they naturally break down within just a few months
Nothing is truly useless
I make use of everything available on this land
to create compost
especially leaves and tree branches
the finest materials for composting
But I can't cut these flowers—I can't bear to since my
wife loves them so much so
I have to leave them for her
When I had completely cleared everything away when I had
crushed them flat into the
ground the forest looked beautiful
much neater and cleaner and then I simply spread straw over
it layering a thick covering
of straw across the entire area
This straw layer will act as a barrier preventing
various types of long weeds from growing up
because it would block the sunlight
For the types of weeds I haven't had a chance to pull yet
Next I simply spread the compost over the straw layer
without needing touch the orange tree to dig or remove anything
I really enjoy working in the morning especially during
the early hours of each day
but I don’t do it for too long
I spend less than an hour each day tending to my
garden the rest of my time being devoted to other tasks
So exactly one hour—no more
no less—is the perfect amount
of time for gardening I need to mix compost with the soil
The soil in this area of mine has an extremely high clay
content Growing crops on this type of soil is quite challenging
I have to fetch soil from another source then bring
it back to mix with compost in a 1:1 ratio as customary
That's the approach I'm using here but
you don't have to copy my method exactly
depending on the soil conditions of each area
I will use a mixture of compost and soil from the pit
Mix this at a 1:1 ratio and place it in the
middle of the already spread compost layer
Just a small amount about the size of a cup
equivalent to two handfuls of this mixture
Putting it right in the middle of the compost layer like this is perfectly fine
And now I can grow anything I want
right in the middle of that mixture using this technique
I don't need to dig up anything at all
Growing crops this way is quite easy and enjoyable
since I don't have to expend too much energy
I don't need to work extremely hard to grow plants
This method is far too effortless
For me every morning I plant something in this way
Now I need to grow many varieties of chili peppers
Tomatoes and peppers differ
this season for seed collection
So I'll plant lotus interspersed with tomatoes
eggplants and chili peppers then again tomatoes
That's how I plant lotuses separately
to prevent excessive cross-pollination
It's currently winter here in
January The weather is quite foggy
The weather is extremely cold and feels unusual compared to normal
This is actually the perfect time to plant vegetables
Since the weather is cold most vegetables thrive in such conditions
And so every morning I diligently tend to my garden
This year I have many different tomato varieties
Seed preservation requires careful cultivation
That is my primary task this year
After planting I need to cover the soil with straw to retain
moisture longer and the mulch layer will also prevent excessive drying
When mulching I leave a small space
around the stem so it can receive sunlight
And we shouldn't let the compost layer be
exposed directly to sunlight as it will dry out
To do that I just need to water heavily on the
first day and then only once a week thereafter
That's all I'll do
So growing in this manner is truly effortless
I grow plenty but I don’t have to work too hard
That’s the real joy of gardening
The joy of working less and simply enjoying the sight
of trees growing and thriving on their own—there's nothing quite like it
Here is a photo of them on Tuesday three days after I planted them
They look so fresh and vibrant
That's because new roots are just beginning to form
They are growing new roots
Now they are ready to rise
And here is day five
Once the roots developed the young shoots also began to emerge
Then they grew rapidly as if blown up overnight
After this phase we won’t need to do much hands-on work anymore
Just one watering is all it takes for the mulch layer to fully deliver its benefits
It's truly effortless
Have a wonderful day
