Why You SHOULD Learn Japanese From Anime

Hi I'm Matt In the Japanese language learning community it's often said that using anime for studying Japanese isn't a good idea The idea that watching too much anime will make you speak strange Japanese has been around for ages I think Personally I completely disagree with this idea The reason is that in fact I'm American and taught myself Japanese through study but for the first two years of studying Japanese I was honestly just watching anime and didn't really use it for my studies I used it and in the end I was able to speak Japanese quite fluently like this I hate to say it myself but I think it probably doesn't come across as that awkward or unnatural Japanese Just to be clear So in this video I’d like to discuss why it’s completely valid for Japanese language learners to incorporate anime into their own study routines Since I started engaging with media that offer authentic Japanese like Japanese radio I quickly began expressing myself in natural Japanese so basically what happens in anime is you find the best language to learn and in a way you've found your golden ticket to mastering the Japanese language ow the really key concept here is if you're anime fa The most important thing when learning a language is finding content that genuinely interests you and keeps you engaged so if you're not into anime you definitely shouldn't force yourself to watch it because that probably won't last very long But if you're anime fan anime might just be the perfect choice as you work to build a foundation in Japanese When I say I'm learning Japanese from anime it's not just about watching your favorite anime with English subtitles When many people are watching us it's not a very effective way to learn language What I'm saying is when watching anime use no subtitles at all Of course you can use the Japanese subtitles that combine all the dialogue That way you can instantly look up the meaning of any word you don't yet know Plus you can easily incorporate the new words and phrases you 've learned and even update them directly on your Onki Cards These are the tools that allow you to efficiently develop your language and grammar skills I have many videos on this channel In this channel I'll discuss in detail how I recommend approaching studying Therefore I can't go into that here However if you're interested I'll leave something for you to check Now the conclusion is Is it possible to learn Japanese through anime Well certainly it is That’s proof I’m alive But do you really need to learn Japanese through anime Well that depends on the situation Do you like anime If so then yes However the most important thing is that using anime for beginners and intermediate Japanese learners seems to require you to do what you say When speaking the language you mention I will never speak like an actual animated character When using anime to build a strong foundation in language it becomes effortless to speak naturally after just a few weeks of listening to Japanese without writing it down At first you might find it hard to believe but that's it for now Next week I'll post part 2 of this video I'm focusing on a specific facet of Japanese that uses anime We delve deeply into it And this extremely unnatural idea has reached a considerable number of people And I in learning the language of anime Explore ideas as a specific type of content If you're interested in Japanese or anime please subscribe to the channel If you're here without studying Japanese or interest in anime please subscribe to the channel Next week I'll be sharing On language learning conte Thank you all for subscribing We hope you enjoy the video Please follow us on Twitter The Mass American Approach Also check out Patreon—there's all sorts of interesting stuff there and you can learn languages That' s all for today see you next time
