This is it, the official 2026 SSI benefit amount
administered by the Social Security Administration
for about seven and a half million
supplemental security income beneficiaries.
Just the other day,
we got the official Social Security COLA announcement
and the new adjustment to SSI benefits
as far as how much the maximum benefits will be
for the entire year of 2026.
I've been receiving a lot of comments
from those of you here in the community
that watch the videos right here on the channel,
reaching out, asking, what about SSI?
Exactly how much are we going to be getting?
So in this dedicated video,
I'm gonna be talking about SSI,
exactly how much you will be getting in 2026
as an individual, also as a married couple,
consistent with the raise announced
by Social Security the other day.
And I'm also going to be talking about
the asset allocations, as in how much cash
or cash equivalents can you have for 2026
also announced by Social Security.
Now, before we get into this,
I wanna clarify, this is only talking about SSI,
supplemental security income.
This is for you, okay?
So if you're an SSI beneficiary,
this is your dedicated video.
If you're receiving retirement or any other benefits,
I have a ton of dedicated videos
here on the channel for you
and a whole lot more to come.
Stay tuned, but this is only about SSI.
All right, so a couple of days ago,
we got the official Social Security COLA announcement
out of Social Security coming in at 2.8%,
exactly as I've been saying for the last month
and a half or so, right on the button,
exactly as projected, okay?
So that's no surprise, we knew that one was coming.
Okay, but with that being said,
now we need to apply this to SSI benefits as well.
So let's walk through the numbers.
In 2025, the maximum benefit for an individual,
obviously $967.
However, applying the potential to,
no, applying the official, let me say that again,
applying the official, okay, 2.8% COLA raise
has increased these benefits by $27 per month
up to $994 per month is the maximum for 2026.
Now, I'll tell you this much,
if you've been watching the videos here on the channel
for at least the last month or so,
I literally had a video out about two or three weeks ago
where I told you this.
So if you've been watching the videos
for the last few weeks,
you already knew these numbers weeks ago
because I told you, okay?
So anyway, you probably already knew this,
but these are the official numbers
based on the announcement out of Social Security.
And again, I announced this a few weeks ago.
So there you go, you already had this foresight,
you knew this was coming, $994 is the maximum
for an SSI individual in 2026, that is what it is.
So we're $6 shy of an even $1,000, maybe next year,
we'll see what happens.
All right, so anyway, that's an individual.
Next, let's talk about a married couple.
A married couple in 2025 was allowed to get
up to a maximum of $1,450 per month as a married couple.
However, these individuals also get
the cost of living adjustment, the COLA,
applied to their monthly benefit checks
for the year of 2026 as well.
They're also increasing by 2.8%,
which is also an increase of 41, $41.
$41 is how much they're increasing,
from $1,450 in 2025 up to $1,491 in 2026, okay?
So there you go, that's the official for a married couple,
$1,491 as the maximum benefit for a married couple.
Now, I also wanna point something else out
because I get comments on this every single year
as I've been covering these updates
for many, many years now.
I get comments that say something like this.
But wait, you said it was $994 and $1,491.
I don't get that, why don't I get it?
These are the maximums.
Just because these are the maximums does not guarantee
that you're gonna get the maximum.
These are what you can get up to.
You can certainly get less than that.
In fact, the averages are actually quite a bit less
than that across the board.
A lot of people do get the maximum,
but certainly not everybody, okay?
I wanna point that out for you.
Next, let's talk about the asset allocations.
What do I mean by this?
Cash and cash equivalents, you know this.
As an SSI beneficiary, they basically say
you gotta be broke in order to get these benefits.
If you have any money, we're gonna penalize you for it.
I don't like that.
To me, this seems like a ridiculous rule,
but this is the rule.
I don't like the rule, but just because I don't like it
doesn't mean that it doesn't exist.
Anyway, the cash or cash equivalents
remains at the same level it's been at
for decades and decades and decades.
$2,000 for an individual, $3,000 for a married couple.
Those have not budged in multiple decades, okay?
So unfortunately, this is all you can have
as an SSI beneficiary.
If you have more than that,
they're gonna garnish your benefit,
and you could possibly even get kicked off of the program.
Nasty, and again, I'm not saying that to scare anybody.
I'm here to give you facts and information, okay?
Anyway, that's that.
Now, I wanna also answer a really quick question
that I get all the time as well.
What about the marriage penalty?
Did they remove the marriage penalty for the upcoming year?
As of right now, no, they did not, okay?
No, they did not.
They did not remove the marriage penalty.
I get that question all the time.
Unfortunately, they did not remove that marriage penalty.
Okay, anyway, these are the details for you.
These are the official numbers,
and again, I wanna point something out.
SSI beneficiaries, you will be the first
to get the new higher benefit.
Out of all the 75 million people out there that get benefits,
SSI beneficiaries get the first raise to your benefits.
When?
Is it in January?
No, it's actually not.
December 31st.
December 31st, the very last day of the year,
obviously, you will get your new higher benefit.
So the very last day of the year,
and this happens every single year.
This is not some new unicorn thing for this year.
Nope, same thing that happens every single year
is your benefits would have been administered
on January 1st, but it's a holiday.
They don't administer on holidays or weekends.
You know this.
So therefore, you're gonna get your new higher benefit
in consideration of the COLA raise.
Whether you're getting the maximum or not,
you'll get that new higher benefit
on December 31st of this year.
So like, not that long, right?
Couple months here, and you'll get that
as I film this video right now.
Anyway, hope this helps you.
For those of you that have been reaching out,
asking for the official announcement,
and how much is it, here you go.
Exactly how much it is.
Again, $994 is the maximum for individuals on SSI in 2026.
$1,491 for a married couple receiving SSI in 2026.
Those are the maximum thresholds, okay?
Anyway, if you're on Medicare,
if you know anybody on Medicare,
they're probably feeling frustrated,
annoyed, confused.
Who knows what they're supposed to do right now.
I put together a very simple three-step process.
Grab your Medicare card.
Number two, grab your phone.
Number three, call Chapter right here.
Phone number on the screen.
Yes, they are there right here, right now, today.
They work on weekends.
They're helping you right now.
They've extended their hours massively
to help people navigate Medicare annual enrollment
right here, right now.
Take advantage of that.
Call them.
Wait times are significantly lower.
Call volume is significantly lower on weekends.
Give them a call if you're on Medicare.
If you know anybody on Medicare,
friends, family members, neighbors, acquaintances,
siblings, coworkers, parents, neighbors down the street,
neighbors down the hall, your social media,
anybody you know that is on Medicare,
please take a picture, take a screenshot,
write it down, write that phone number,
and please share that with anybody you know on Medicare
so they can get some help right now
during this very versatile window that is open
where anybody on Medicare can change their coverages
and get those free reviews
to make sure that they're properly covered.
Please go ahead and share that
with anybody you know on Medicare
so they can get that completely for free.
And then when they save a boatload of money,
you get to be the hero and you get to wear the cape,
which is honestly pretty cool
because who doesn't wanna be a superhero?
That's awesome.
Anyway, let me know who you shared it with.
