Best of Bob Ross: Weekend Marathon!

Fast and intense—that's what I love That applies to my work my life and absolutely running My name is Laurien Buffard I am a researcher at Amsterdam UMC I absolutely love being a mother It's wonderful to see your children grow up o see how they discover the world to enjoy moments together I became a mother for the second time in April I've started rebuilding again So I'll probably be ready to go for an eight-kilometer run But a half marathon let alone a full marathon is really way too far right now Running brings me great joy It helps me relax especially after a long day at work I truly love coming home and putting on my running shoes to head outside and make a splash The proceeds from the marathon go to the Cancer Center Amsterdam This year my research was selected and I am truly grateful for that We are researching physical training during cancer treatment With this funding we specifically aim to investigate whether patients who exercise during treatment or who are better able tolerate their treatment The impact of this effect on survival remains significant Research into cancer remains critically important One in every three people will face this illness at some point in their lives And I'm truly glad that through my research I can contribute a small part to improving care for these patients I have many hopes for the future but I'm truly very happy with what I already have I have a wonderful job a beautiful family and I can enjoy running hard I still have a big wish on my bucket list—completing a marathon That would be absolutely fantastic to do once Who knows next year
