Sofia Polcanova vs Chen Yi WS R64 WTTSingapore2026

Strong as can be the shot. Still the same, the step around on the forehand. Little bit off the top of the net there from Chun-Yi. Gives it to Cho first, the next generation here. Slow spin, Tom has paid off for the briefest of moments. Little break early on, Chun-Yi recovers. ...about it as the match develops. Right knee of Sofia Polkanova. I think about the difference in their age on the table and it doesn't matter right now. Compact strokes. And she takes it, 11-9. Sofia hangs on on the third opportunity with love in the crowd. Peter watching on. It is a 1-0 victory. 2-3. Again, if you watch table tennis, it's so much... ...or opening attacks and receive. Bridge of the middle. Quality as can be a fearless... Fascinating, counterintuitive, psychological response. Response, that said. The response here favors Chun-Yi. 11-5. She takes game number two. Packed house right now. Nine in the first. So four points the better. Tough position to be in. Polkanova, you get a net break like this, but it's so well recovered. You can't just put it away. There it is, the angle. 3-4. Short side of the table. 10-6. It is four game points for Chun-Yi. Well saved here. Oh, what a combination. Brings her in. And Sofia says, no, I know better. I cannot take this bait. It's tempting. She can play a decent quality shot there. Once again. 3-2. Cholay indeed, from nine to Cholay. Forehand from Chun-Yi. Cashing in one of the IOUs. A lot of reasons. Factor in the outcome of the point. 8-8. Oh, short side of the table. 9-10. Patience pays off. You could feel that she... Chun-Yi takes the seed. And it is through to the round of 32. And this is the first time that they've played that it has not come down to the decider. That it was quite close.
