7 Tips for Working Smarter, Not Harder
Work can seem endless and tiring. In our pursuit of perfection and career progress,
we need to work. Maybe work more than the mind likes. But fear not, life is hard.
But work can be easier. Working smarter than working harder is a one-liner often quipped
by successful professionals. But how can we work smarter? Is there a secret sauce,
or is it all in the head? All of us have to work jobs to fulfill our needs.
Therefore, working efficiently can take you far in life and also make the journey more enjoyable.
Let's discuss some ways we can ease the pain of the workloads and feel proud of
outsmarting the endless drudge. 1. Habits are your allies
Everyone loves beating a bad habit, probably because they can be so tough to root out.
But when the equation is reversed, habits can be your superpowers.
Whether it is sleeping on time, jogging, Excel etiquette, or reading before sleeping,
habits can unlock the mind's superhuman capability to automate.
We are creatures of habit and always gravitate towards our favorite ones.
Good habits will make being a smart worker feel easy peasy.
2. Time is precious Life is short,
and deadlines are even shorter. Time is a precious commodity and must be managed efficiently.
Gandalf famously proclaimed to be always on time. But we mere mortals must stick to
time management tips. Priority is the key, and knowing what task requires the most urgent
attention is essential. Also, sneak in breaks to make your work feel more breezy.
Time is, after all, relative, and a few well-earned breaks can make you more efficient.
Time management is the life hack everyone knows, but finds stuff to execute.
Being a timely person can make you stand out among the best.
3. Kill procrastination Procrastination is the beast that
mocks the flesh it feeds on. Kill it. Finishing tasks timely is an underrated talent.
Try to devise a reward mechanism for completing tasks on time to spur your mind.
Many have fallen into the quicksand that is procrastination.
But with a quick mind trick, one can snap out of it.
Always remember that delayed gratification is the best gratification.
Getting work done is great, and getting it done early is pure ecstasy.
4. Be transparent Honesty is the best policy.
Being frank about your workload to your colleagues is crucial. Suppressing frustrations or doubts
can cause festering inefficiencies. Sometimes being honest with your boss can take a huge
load off and increase your motivation exponentially. A transparent workplace is known to be better for
efficiency, and is true for your personal work persona too. Faking it can be deadly for productivity.
5. Keep realistic targets Chasing perfection is a great idea,
but it can take a toll. Remember, no one is perfect, and certainly no work assignment.
Temper your expectations according to the circumstances. Sometimes things don't go your
way, and beating your head endlessly will not change anything. Targets should be doable,
and having a pragmatic approach makes work more rewarding. Chasing a goal beyond your reach will
only frustrate and bog you down. 6. Be healthy
Health is the ultimate wealth. We need a working mind, body, and soul to truly realize our potential.
Becoming the best version of yourself requires a healthy lifestyle.
Nothing can be more precious than your health. Mental health is also essential for a successful
career. A brief workout daily has been scientifically proven to improve the quality
of life of an individual, and will surely improve the quality of your work too.
7. The purpose is the essence of work Give your work meaning. The purpose is
what draws us forward in our lives. The same is true for your work.
The purpose is like the meaning of life. There is none, but one can create one. Purpose-driven
work habits can boost your efficiency manifold. Whatever the task, big or small, see the big
picture and reassure yourself that your work has meaning. A job without any purpose will feel
laborious and drain your focus faster. Finding meaning in work can be tough when the workload
is intense, but it will work wonders for your morale, even during the toughest times.
