She whispered quietly I am nothing I
am finished That night
the room was dark
The crying wouldn't stop from inside the blanket
All her friends had gone off to college
but she was left alone at home
When I opened SNS I saw photos of my friends —
laughing in the edit and another photo with a new friend
Every time I saw it my heart
ached I threw my phone down
and cried for several days Hye-jin did nothing at all
He had slept in late and hadn't eaten breakfast and
clothes and books were scattered across the room
Looking into the mirror she
saw a weary face—her hair was
tangled her eyes red and swollen She whispered to herself
I'm a failure I'm useless
Then Mom quietly came over
She took her hand and said
Hyejin failure isn't the end
there are still many paths ahead
you can start again—those words were simple yet profound
A faint light ignited deep within her heart
Hye-jin wiped away her tears silently wondering
Could she really start over
That night she pondered for
a long time then made a small
decision: just one more try
this time without giving up
The next day I
tidied my desk—dusted the accumulated books and sharpened
my pencils—though I felt apprehension when I opened the first page
At the same time there was hope too—she made
a small vow: I can do
this I will not give up
At first I couldn't concentrate at all I even
started crying while flipping through the pages
But gradually the time increased to one hour then
two then three hours a day
studying was difficult bu
She looked into the mirror and spoke to herself: I am
trying I am okay There were
moments when her heart wavered
What if I fail again
Fear surged over me
Whenever that happened my mother's words would come to mind
Failure is not the end
Those words sustained her
On weekends she went to the nearby library
He read a book in a quiet space surrounded by
other students who were diligently studying drawing
strength from their focused presence
She whispered to herself I can do this I'm not alone Months passed and
her life began to change
I woke up early in the morning
made a plan and studied consistently tired
as I was yet there was a
small joy deep within my heart
She was proud of herself for trying hard The exam day was
approaching Though she felt nervous
she repeated to herself inwardly
I'm ready I can do this
Good days are certain to come
After finishing the exam
The wait for the results felt long
But this time she didn’t feel
hopeless like before—she already loved
herself so passing was fine and trying again was perfectly okay
I will never give up
The day of the final results had finally arrived
She opened the screen with trembling hands
The word "passed" came into
view and in that instant tears
poured forth—yet this time they were tears of hope and joy
Hye-jin looked up at the sky and whispered to herself
Everything is impermanent
Even sorrow passes
Good days will surely come if you never give up
That night she wrote in her journal:
I failed but I got back up
I never gave up so I
created a new beginning
