Glenn Close was here and we were speaking about the ending of Fatal Attraction and how
the original ending audiences were having beef with and so you got together and talked
about maybe performing a different ending to make it the success it needed to be.
Well here's what she had to say, can I show you?
So I was in a meeting with Adrian, the director, and the producer, and Michael, who I love,
and I was saying, what if it was you, what if it was your character, what did you do,
what did you do?
You know, I was so furious and he said, hey babe, I'm a whore.
Glenn didn't stop having affairs after that film came out, if like, I don't know, I mean
she, you guys changed the world with that movie.
No she didn't.
Thank you.
It's iconic.
The original ending was a trick where we had a fight with a knife and I got the knife out
of her hands and everything, so the knife had my fingerprints on it, and then the ending
was that she committed suicide with the knife, so it would look like I framed me.
And what happened was the audiences wouldn't allow her to kill herself, they wanted somebody
else to kill her.
Like the wife?
The wife.
Ann Archer.
Or me, it was just, everybody got up in arms about test scores or everything else, but
you need to know if it works for the audience or not, and it wasn't working, the picture
was working right up to the end.
Okay, when you were making Basic Instinct, did you know what it was going to do?
Did you know it would be the phenomenon that it was?
Did you have that feeling?
No, no, we had no sense of, you know, I just wanted to do a slam dance, and that was really
how it all kind of started out.
What's a slam dance?
A slam dance is just a-
Oh good, well because our minds are alike.
In your face.
Oh, it's very in your face.
I mean, I'll never forget, I was in the movie theater and I will just never forget that
experience.
I mean, that is a game changer when you have an audience screaming and flipping out throughout
the whole movie.
Drew, do you still get starstruck when people, I mean like Michael Douglas, you know, everybody
in the entire universe, we've known him for decades, and he's here, do you get nervous?
Sometimes I get so nervous that I finally kind of snapped a few years in and I was like,
I can't keep doing this to myself.
Like somehow I'm making myself feel like I'm not either worthy of being in their presence
or like that I'm not going to master their experience enough to be worthy of them.
Understood.
I think it's more of the latter, and I was putting so much pressure on myself because
I am so starstruck by people.
So I think sometimes my admiration turns into intimidation.
Is there anyone you haven't met, like is there someone that like, oh my God, if this person
walked in?
Bucket list.
Let's talk it.
The last time I saw Taylor Swift, I just watched her walk by and my eyes just followed her
and my body froze and we used to do CoverGirl together.
Like I know her, I've met her, we've spoken.
She took a wonderful picture with my daughter at some point, but even when she took a picture
with my daughter, I said, Miss Swift, would you mind taking a picture with my daughter?
And she looked at me and like, was like, yes, of course, and was acknowledging that I was
being formal about the situation.
So yeah, I mean, there's too many to count, really.
Well, if you want to hang out with Taylor Swift, I can text her.
Will you have my phone?
Yeah.
You do not have to.
I'm kidding.
I'm totally kidding.
I wish.
I know.
Don't we all?
I'm such a Swifty.
It's insane.
Same.
You know, the way that people talk about how someone was so influential when they were
growing up or define who they are, like, she really is that for me and the girls.
Yes.
Same.
I love her.
Equally.
I love it.
She's kind of just getting started too.
You know?
Yeah.
I can't wait to see what she does, you know, 10, 20 years from now.
We'll be right back.
