That's called the Arkabenhof here It's an absolutely crucial question
Also this video is meant to inspire you to keep taking steps toward the goals you truly want to achieve
Today's vlog is especially special because Austria is currently experiencing a very severe storm
And that's why I thought I'd make this vlog largely right here inside my home
I had already been outside before and I actually tried filming a vlog on two different days
But did you know right now in Austria it's experiencing extremely unbelievable
weather There's heavy rainfall and actual thunderstorms are occurring
That means it's not just a lot of water but it's actually storming very very violently
The wind is incredibly strong making it extremely difficult to shoot a normal video outdoors
Moreover these circumstances or these conditions are relatively difficult
Let me tell you a little story about how I tried to film a vlog
First I went to the MuseumsQuartier
It's a district in Vienna filled with numerous museums exhibitions and bars
It's roughly in the center of Vienna one could say or it's fairly centrally located
It was already evening but I thought I'd still try anyway
Filming a video under these conditions in this weather somehow
And I even managed to film a short video for a few minutes
And I’ll include that here in this vlog as well
And this short video is actually about motivation and the idea
that you shouldn't give up immediately even in difficult situations
Welcome to this very special video which I deliberately filmed today in bad weather
It's cold the wind is blowing and it's raining heavily in Vienna today
And the topic for today is motivation
And sometimes you just aren't as motivated because the external circumstances aren't quite ideal
And today I’m sharing a few interesting quotes on the subject
Quote number one: Sometimes you’re caught in the rain
Just now I'm literally standing in the rain
You can also stand in the rain metaphorically
And that means getting soaked in the rain feeling
uncomfortable being cold and simply having a bad mood
But even when you're caught in the rain from time to time remember what your original goal was
The next cliché is that one shouldn't hang one's head
Hanging one's head—that's that particular gesture
And when you're standing in the rain you sometimes feel like hanging your head or you'd rather just give up
But that might not always be the best idea either
And today I want to show you in this video that you can keep going even in less-than-ideal circumstances
I could also go outside in this weather—rain wind cold—and film a quick video
Just to show I can stick with it
So you can stay committed to something That means continuing to pursue a goal
It's very likely that at some point in various areas of life you won't feel
particularly motivated—this can certainly happen during foreign language learning
This can occur in one's profession or job
It can also happen with highly personal topics or deeply personal decisions
at one somehow loses the courage loses motivation
no longer wants to continue and feels like giving up
And that's exactly why I'm making this video today — to
show you that it's all in your mind it's all a mental game
And you can always find a way to keep going
That doesn’t automatically mean you have to stubbornly and rigidly keep doing everything at all costs
Of course not and I believe we all know that
But if we reflect for ourselves and think things through we'll find plenty of topics
where we actually really want to be or where we originally would have loved to achieve this goal
but for various reasons lack motivation feel demotivated disinterested and have no courage
That's exactly what this video is about
Also this video is meant to inspire you to keep taking steps toward the goals you truly want to achieve
And I went there myself I thought I'd deliberately and very consciously enjoy this weather
make a vlog outside and film a video outdoors so I can simply show
Yes sometimes one might not have the ideal conditions for
something but one can still keep working toward the goal
You can still try to take a step closer to your goal
So I've also provided various examples
Let's take language learning for instance
Everyone has bad days now and then
I've had plenty of days and almost more bad ones than good ones when learning languages or even working out
And you must simply not let yourself be swayed by it nor allow yourself to be distracted by it
It's often the case that you just don't have good days feeling perhaps tired or drained
at you somehow feel uncreative lacking good ideas
or simply don’t know exactly what to do today
Or if I'm learning a foreign language right now it's not always clear what exactly I should practice
And then comes this one mood that isn't good followed by another mood that's also not good
And that somehow never really becomes well positive energy
And that's why one often gets stuck somewhere feeling trapped in a place
And you get the sense that you simply can't escape from that hole or that situation
You just feel kind of drained weak and unmotivated
That's why I deliberately and consciously wanted to make this video for you back then
and I've even done it to show that yes even in the rain even in storms even in extremely cold weather
It was already quite cold back then as Austria and
Vienna experienced a noticeable drop in temperature
I already thought back then that I really wanted to show this
Yes even I as a YouTuber or someone who publishes videos on YouTube
can also make a video even in very awkward situations or under
extremely unusual circumstances that normally wouldn't be like that
And I think when it comes
to motivation language learning here is truly a quintessential example
Also you often have various obstacles explaining why for instance you didn't practice this language today
You might not know which sources or learning materials to
choose feeling overwhelmed or thinking you can't speak well
I might not know any native speakers or perhaps I know too few
Or the native speakers I know—they don’t have time for me and I can’t talk to them at all
And then you simply can't find any glimmer of hope to use in practicing the language that day
And that's truly a major mental challenge
And here I’ll quickly take a sip of my coffee while touching on the topic of learning a foreign language and motivation
And how does one get into motivation or simply get started with action
I think besides motivation the topics of structure and study planning are also very important
And when I say "learning plan " I don't mean a boring dry schedule where I have to stick to every single detail and comma
Exactly on the dot and comma means doing something with utmost precision and strict adherence to detail
It's simply about establishing a specific framework for oneself to avoid wasting one's own energy in that place
Often there's no structure and without one we end up spending time figuring out right now how when where and with what tools we should be learning
Also this topic—creating a structure for yourself that fits who you are and matches your own rhythm
This is a profoundly crucial and essential question a fundamental point to consider when we want to learn foreign languages
And today I tried filming outside as well so I first looked for a proper spot since I didn’t want my camera to get wet
The tricky part about this weather is avoiding water from getting into the camera which would result in damage
I ended up at the University of Vienna standing in front of the main building which is such a beautiful structure
And even inside this building there are truly beautiful spots that I’ll show you in this vlog this video
Also the weather is unfortunately quite poor—there's strong wind and rain and I have to be careful not to get my camera wet
That's why today we have a slightly more special vlog
Also I originally wanted to try doing a vlog outside but then I thought before my camera breaks I’d better not bother—otherwise it just wouldn’t be worth it
And here's a quote on the subject: It's not worth it "It's not worth it" means that in the end the overall result isn't positive—it actually amounts to a loss
You don't make a profit in the end you only suffer a loss It's not worth it
Besides instead of buying a new camera right now I'd rather wait until the rain stops and then go outside again to film a vlog
And what you're hearing right now is the echo I'm standing in a very bare empty space—there's nothing on the walls
That's why you hear the echo You hear the reverberation So it echoes here
I'll just quickly go up these stairs and see what's around the corner But yes really we're just seeing an empty university here and there's not much going on
Most people are probably at home drinking hot coffee
So here you can still see the view down into the courtyard
And I can show you something else I'm written here in Latin numerals for staircase number six
I meant to say in Roman numerals In Roman numerals
Also the V stands for 5 and the I stands for 1 Staircase number 6
And which institutes do we have here
Here for example is the Institute for Classical Philology
Classical Philology Very interesting
I'm going to find a space now where there's hopefully a bit less echo and you can hopefully hear me a bit better
I was in that arcade courtyard—the inner courtyard of the University
of Vienna You'll see for yourselves how beautiful it is there
There you'll find various busts and statues of famous individuals who taught at the University of Vienna
Now I'm outside in this larger courtyard here and we'll take a lap around
Thank goodness I'm half-sheltered from the rain here
You'll probably hear the wind loud and clear but I'm still going to spin this round for you right here because it's actually a beautiful place
So one side we've got countless statues and then there's this massive scaffold I need to show you so you understand why suddenly there's such a loud noise coming from here
We have this massive scaffolding here which wasn't erected the last time I was here
So evidently renovations are underway
And this is called the Arkadenhof here—a very very beautiful courtyard yes the Arkadenhof
And here are numerous different statues or busts one could say of various scientists
A bust is a statue in this form where one primarily sees the head and upper chest area
Or perhaps just this area of the body was highlighted
And then one has contributions from many different scientists for example Erwin Schrödinger a very renowned physicist
Here you'll find the bust of Erwin Schrödinger and several others
Let me just show you briefly what busts we have here
For instance here's Karl Popper— I'm familiar with him too
Or from many others
Here for example is Bertha Kalig a lady here
Very interesting
And this was also highlighted differently
Let's keep going take the left turn
There's also a statue of Sigmund Freud located back there though it's now a bit smaller
I'll just keep walking and show you this panorama too
how it looks here in the arcade courtyard on a rainy day empty of people
Also you'll naturally encounter more people here In
summer this central area is a very popular relaxation spot
People also love sitting there enjoying their coffee savoring something else and chatting with one another
But as mentioned this arcade courtyard is truly a sight to
behold A sight to behold means something is extremely beautiful
Something is truly beautiful to look at something is a feast for the
eyes The University of Vienna is architecturally a feast for the eyes
The arcade courtyard precisely because the arcade itself is that arch
The arcade
So we're now about halfway there
Now it continues from here
And now I'll tell you all about what else I can share with you here
There's also a lounge chair used during the summer
So these chairs here
These loungers are typically placed here on the grass so you can lie down there
So this item here is a huge lounger
Typically they're much smaller of course
So this is more suited to the needs of the Unicampus where such large loungers are required
Also sun loungers are pretty much settled yes
And there's something else too
Here I see some information about a famous composer
This composer is Anton Bruckner You
may have heard of him—Anton Bruckner
And he recently celebrated his 200th anniversary that is his 200th birthday
I once read that in the news here
So he was born on September 4
Here is a photo of him Anton Bruckner
And he is also a famous composer
And yes I still have a badge I can show you
This one here
This time in English
And this is the
arcade courtyard This is called in English
And once again a panorama of this beautiful vista in my opinion
And honestly I'm really glad I've found myself a little refuge here
I originally intended to wander around out here a bit more
but then I realized unfortunately that simply isn't possible
It's impossible to shoot a vlog outside today with
my cameras because they'd get wet and then break
Because the water would seep into the cameras
And that's exactly what we don't want
Alright I'll be done with this round shortly
Here's something else nice I can also show you
We have what looks like a water basin here
In terms of shape this is what you'd call a basin
And for example even in our bathroom we have a sink A sink
simply has that shape And
theoretically water would come out here
And here we have this water outlet—though I wouldn't call it a faucet
Because a faucet can be turned on and off
But we have this exit here in the form of a lion's head
And the lion has this mane here
So in German this is called a mane
If the lion has this on its head
And it's also beautifully decorated
I'm not exactly sure what kind
of stone it was carved from Maybe marble though I'm not certain
Or some kind of marble
But this action this activity this task is called carving
I chisel out a shape and this lion was carved from the stone
And that in turn gives rise to an entire artistic tradition
This art form is then called sculpture
So a sculptor creates exactly such artworks
One carves one hammers a figure out
And if we just take a moment to examine this
term—sculpture—then we simply have the image
That means not just a picture hanging on the wall but simply something we can see
And "hauen" means to hit
You could also say someone gets beaten
That's the colloquial way of saying someone gets hit
And if I have something then in this sense I’m chiseling a sculpture right here carving out an image
I’m carving out an image
Yes very very beautiful
And what else can we show here
Here I can also show a sign namely University of Vienna
A notice indicating where smoking is allowed and where it is not
Outside yes inside no
You can smoke outside but not inside
Here we have a public building and smoking is not allowed here
So I'll keep going and see where I end up next
Ah there's a photoshoot back there of a
married couple I rarely see that around here
Not just here at the university but I rarely see that in Austria either
Yes there are few people here today
That means the couple then has a
good chance to quietly do a photoshoot
Interesting
But I'm not going to dwell on that right now
Just to let people be that's all
And there we have an honor roll with various names inscribed on it
And here we also state that these names will be carved into the honor roll
That's exactly how you say it
Well I think I've completed a round here and will be heading off to the next station shortly
I also filmed a short video in the largest lecture hall at the University of Vienna
I wasn't sure at first whether you could just walk in there
whether it was actually possible to enter freely like that
But I also saw other people going inside
I then asked them whether one can just walk in
And they said yes of course it's somewhat like a
public building—you can just walk in and out freely
And behold even in this Audimax—the university's official
largest lecture hall in Vienna—others were seated as well
Inside there were also people relaxing chatting and exchanging casual conversation
Currently there is still no academic instruction taking place at the university
It's officially still vacation time Classes and
lectures in Austria don't start until October
These courses at the university are also officially
called Lehrveranstaltungen That’s also a very specific term
But I think that's very useful to know
because you always hear this word in isolation over and over again and very very frequently
So a course at the university is essentially the same as a lecture series
Next sip of coffee
So I just wandered around the university trying to find some nice spots
where I might be able to sit down and record this vlog
And I started looking into finding or spotting a coffee machine and a beverage machine
I immediately threw myself into it
And so I immediately went there and tried right away to shoot a nice video
And here I am in a somewhat dark corridor
Here I am at the university
But I've found a drink vending machine and there's also a coffee machine here
Let's see what we can find around here
So here we have various coffee types let's say in German
And here you can press a button to get this coffee right here
Here you take out the coffee That's what "take out" means
And here you need to pull up this barrier or this hatch once more let's say in German
What other lovely words do we have here
For instance we'll need to pay here then
We can pay with a card or with plastic let's say
Or possibly even in cash under certain circumstances
Is there still some cash lying
around anywhere I don't think so
Quite modernized—or digitized—this machine is What do we have here then
We have a variety of drinks and also snacks
Up there we have these typical chocolate bars and other sweets
Here we have a pack of nuts
Down here we have drinks
Once sprayed the beverages are carbonated meaning they contain carbon dioxide
And then we also have other drinks for example Red Bull here—it's also carbonated
Or we have still water
Also when we say water is sparkling that means it's carbonated
or unspritzed still meaning without carbonation
So in the next compartment since that's what "fach" means in German
Next up in this section we have various sandwiches so to speak
Basically they're just buns with ham
We also have a whole grain bread in the
center The whole grain bread is slightly darker
And in the next section there are again some baked goods sweets cookies
That looks like an apple pie
Ah that's how it is Apple cake cheesecake
marble cake Have you ever seen marble cake
Marmorkuchen is also incredibly delicious very good tastes excellent
These are different types of flour-based desserts
And here we have another display labeled in German as an electronic display
It then reads please select a product
But there were really very few people on campus today which isn't
surprising given the weather as people naturally prefer staying home
and since they likely don’t have a genuine reason to just
wander outside or hang around the University of Vienna right now
Yes when I say "to be staying " it means being at a place
So I could say I'm staying at the University of Vienna
You can also use that as a synonym
I'm at the University of Vienna
Or I'm spending time in a park
That means I'm in a park
I could now spontaneously pass
this question on to you: Where
do you like to be Where do you prefer to spend your free time
You could then for example respond: I like to spend time at the gym
I like to spend time on the sports field
Or I enjoy spending time at the café
Oh yes and you're welcome to support me on BAMIER COFFEE or on Patreon
Where do you like to be
That's the kind of question you can ask here
I kept walking and then came across those
flyers—what you might also call leaflets
Most people nowadays say flyer
That's just an Anglicism
These are the small cards handed out as simple advertisements
The goal here is to spread information
And at the end of September Austria holds a very important election
This is the National Council election
And then by chance I noticed these flyers lying right next to the steps
Originally I thought it was a flyer from a specific political party
But then I realized this flyer isn't actually from any particular
party—it's just meant to be a reminder that people should go vote
So I’ve ended up briefly in this hallway
And I’ve found something I can show you
Specifically I have a flyer here
That's also called a flyer or handbill
And you distribute it
In German that's called austeilen
And it's usually advertising
This is about choosing about the election
And here is a quote
Because democracy needs the many
Efforts are being made to encourage people here to vote
and cast their ballots Casting a ballot simply means voting
And there are various slogans I
can show you Your voice matters
Your voice is important Voting
means taking responsibility
Voting means taking responsibility
So you do have responsibility That’ s
what needs to be said here And go
vote or others will decide for you
On September 29 6.3 million people will elect a new National Council
In fact I've taken another look at this flyer
It's simply about the National Council I believe this is just
meant to encourage people to vote on September 29 here in Austria
It's actually a great topic for learning German
Well I just kept going and admired this staircase
And then I filmed the staircase once more with the camera
And you can also see here how it looks
Also I've kept thinking wow this is truly
beautiful I keep appreciating it all over again
And the ground at the University of Vienna is truly a beautiful sight to behold
Also here's a new term I can show you or explain and teach you: floor covering
Also the covering that's the layer that's on the floor
Also there are naturally various types of floor coverings
There are wooden floor coverings
There are stone flooring options
There are marble flooring options
Flooring made from plastic
So the floor covering
The term "belag " which comes from the verb "belegen " refers to something placed or laid upon something else
So when I belege something I'm placing specific items onto it
For example you can top a slice of bread with ham and cheese
So in this other context you also use this word in the same way
That is precisely why this word exists
And this also leads me to a truly remarkable aspect and a truly admirable quality of the German language
Although this feature naturally exists in other languages as well
But I think in German this word formation is particularly striking
Because in German or rather because in German one often has
a core vocabulary that is continually recombined in new ways
Also you can easily identify the root word or core word and then learn new
words very simply—or we might say relatively easily—through that core word
For instance I once saw a lounge chair like that in the
arcade courtyard You could also call it a beach lounger
And on this couch the word was endlessly printed
And tirelessly here's a wonderful word creation I'd like to go through and examine with you
The root word is "tired "
You might already know this word I believe
I'm very tired or I'm not tired at all
And if I take the verb ermüden it means someone is becoming tired
So he gets tired very quickly
I get tired when I work out a lot at the gym
And I do have a members-only area
More videos more content for you on a wide range of topics
Sign up and become a member of my channel
And what exactly can one tirelessly do now One could
tirelessly work One could
tirelessly explore something
Also for instance a researcher at the university tirelessly studies a specific topic or question
One could tirelessly learn a language
One could tirelessly attempt something
Also imagine someone trying to pass a driving test or another extremely difficult exam say
Any difficult exam yes as a prime example
And yet this person repeatedly fails to accomplish it
Additionally this person failed both the first and second attempts
Yet despite this they don't give up instead this student tirelessly keeps striving to eventually pass the exam
Also this person—or we simply say—the student registers for the next exam session even though they've already taken the exam five times
And yet tirelessly he still wants to overcome this obstacle
And speaking of mental barriers we’ve just touched on these very obstacles when discussing language learning
Also what mental barriers might you have when it comes to learning languages or staying motivated
Or perhaps there's something in your everyday life you'd love to change but right now you still need to overcome a mental barrier
Maybe you've already achieved some goal or let's say made progress in a particular area and you've already overcome that mental barrier
The hurdle let's put it that way in German
There's also the hurdle race in sports
This means that people or athletes come together for a running event
There's a running race along the track
And along this track you can see various hurdles
Also that's called a hurdle race
So that means you start by running and then you have to jump over a hurdle
And then you run a few more meters only to jump over a hurdle
once again The word "wieder" actually just means "again "
It is a relatively written and formal way of saying "again "
So if I say I'm taking another sip of coffee that means exactly the same thing
I take another sip of coffee
And I do have a members-only area
More videos more content for you on a wide range of topics
Sign up and become a member of my channel
Back to the vlog I made at the University of Vienna
I then strolled around this arcade courtyard and spotted several interesting busts
Also including works by composer Anton Bruckner and physicist Erwin Schrödinger
Alternatively one can check the time period during which these
individuals lived Often this allows one to form a clearer mental image
One can imagine the era in which they lived and
thus gain the corresponding historical context
Then I slowly walked toward the exit of the University of Vienna and to my right noticed a bicycle rack
And there I saw a word I’d like to share with you here:
the word flitzen
There's a photo here showing the ÖBB zipping through the streets
The ÖBB are the Austrian Federal Railways
And "flitzen" means running or driving extremely incredibly fast
It doesn’t matter whether you’re traveling by vehicle or
simply walking on foot—someone zips by at lightning speed
You could run incredibly fast zipping through the street for instance
The man dashes lap after lap around
the track He moves incredibly fast
And that's exactly the word used when someone is moving somewhere at breakneck speed
And next I saw something else cool—a phone booth
A phone booth has become a very rare sight these days
When I was a child there were still plenty everywhere but they were gradually
dismantled over time because the need for them simply no longer existed
There were simply always more cell phones and there continue to be more cell phones and smartphones
And that's why people no longer feel the need to call someone from a phone booth outside
And we can take a quick look at what these parts of a telephone booth are actually called
First we have the receiver
And then there's the microphone you speak into and then there's the earpiece so to speak
Also in the spot where you place the earpiece
Then theoretically you could dial a number on the keys and down below there's also a coin dispenser
or honestly I wasn't even sure anymore whether cash is
still accepted at this phone booth and these phone machines
I hadn't been in a phone booth for many years
I just kept walking and then spotted a tram
In Vienna new models of these trams continually emerge
Consequently the trams are regularly redesigned and reimagined
What I've also noticed is something relatively positive: the trams themselves are
actually getting smaller on the outside but
inside there's actually more space than ever
That's at least my own subjective perception I don'
t know if it's truly correct but I have a sense tha
The walls of the tram are becoming increasingly slim and narrow so
more interior space is available without the tram itself growing larger
And that means that sometimes the design of the
objects we use in everyday life will become smarter
It’s becoming more convenient or perhaps it’s just getting
sleeker Things are getting lighter
Of course there are exceptions
Some things don’t necessarily improve in design
but here and especially in the tram one can certainly say that
at least in my opinion
And the predecessor model as it's called in
German the predecessor model or predecessor type
It then drove back in the opposite direction a few seconds later
And I was able to film both trams within just a few seconds
That was also very very beautiful and I just wanted to share that with you
Well then I simply continued on my way
and then saw a really cool poster on the subway a
fantastic advertisement from the Kunsthalle Wien
Specifically with a very tangled arrow
So this arrow here is completely utterly tangled and woven into a knot
And if we see something like that it's messy
If we see a truly utterly tangled knot
That means it's completely chaotic
And that reminded me of the following quote
All roads lead to the Kunsthalle
And this is probably an advertisement no matter how you
drive or walk in the end we all end up at the Kunsthalle
And that I think or perhaps that could be a little bit of this inspiration
So that's my own interpretation of things
And then I can show you another beautiful quote
here—unleash your potential
Unleashing your potential
And here we are again with the topic of being motivated wanting to achieve a goal
or when for instance you encounter blocks or need to overcome specific obstacles
ow to overcome these obstacles and how to resolve blockages
What else might one's own potential still encompass
I think the boundaries are much much further than we ourselves believe
And just what does the verb "entfalten" mean exactly
Well here we have two parts again and we can take a look at these two parts
So when I fold something that actually means
