What is Health Science?

Science Stops

The health science major is one of the four emphasis areas in public health.
It's a general public health degree with a focus on the science classes that you would take
if you're pre-med or if you're pre-dental or if you're planning on going to PA school.
Health science offers the ability to incorporate any of the science electives that you want to
choose into the public health sphere. It was just a really good combination for me to learn
not only all the public health side but also the chemistry, the biology, the physics,
everything you need to know for the MCAT. You should definitely study health science if you're
interested in being some sort of caregiver in the future. So if you're pre-med, you're pre-dental,
you're pre-physician's assistant, pre-physical therapy, this is a great route for you to be able
to get all those prereqs done for the science core as well as learn something about public
health and how you can become a better caregiver in the future. Also if you are interested in public
health and you're really interested in the health care part of the health system, there's a lot of
health science students that go in to do health care administration and work in other jobs in the
health care industry. After I graduate I plan on pursuing some sort of career in health care
because I know that I'm passionate about it because of what I've learned through public health
and I know that the health science emphasis has helped me learn even more about the science behind
health care. So how does this help people go out to serve? Public health is a discipline that looks
at how to make the lives of populations better and health care typically looks at how to make
the lives of individuals better and so this provides students with a good foundation, it's a good major
to help people look at both of those sides. So how do we look at the health of the individual but then
how do we prevent individuals from needing health care in the first place? How do we look at
population level factors that make groups of people and communities of people healthier? It's been able
to help me learn and realize some of the things that I didn't understand really about health care
and about public health and I know that from what I've learned I know I'll be able to help give
better care to these patients or these people that I'm going to serve in the future. That's what the
whole major is about, it's about how to make people's lives better.
