10 Years Ago: Princess Catherine's Stunning Grey Erdem Look at Commonwealth Day 2016
Ten years ago, Princess Catherine shone in grey lace at Commonwealth Day service.
Hello and welcome back to Royal Insider News with the Commonwealth Service.
2026, just days away on March 9th at Westminster Abbey, excitement is building across the realms.
This year's theme, Unlocking Opportunities Together for a Prosperous Commonwealth,
promises a celebration of unity and progress.
But as we look forward, let's take a nostalgic step back exactly a decade, to March 14th,
2016, and revisit one of Princess Catherine's most iconic and elegant appearances at the
Commonwealth Day service. Ten years ago, the then Duchess of Cambridge joined Prince William,
Queen Elizabeth II, Prince Philip and Prince Harry for the annual multi-faith observance
at Westminster Abbey. The theme that year was An Inclusive Commonwealth, highlighting diversity
and togetherness across the 53 nations. Catherine's presence added a fresh, modern touch
to the traditional event. She arrived looking absolutely radiant in a bespoke grey erdem coat
from the designer's pre-fall 2015 collection. The coat featured a sophisticated all-over
pin-dot pattern layered with delicate scalloped lace overlays. Subtle yet striking, a perfect
balance of understated elegance and texture. She completed the monochromatic look with a matching
wide-brimmed grey hat by milliner John Boyd, a new collaboration for her at the time.
Accessories included a sleek grey suede clutch by Emmy London and coordinating grey suede heels
by Rupert Sanderson. To add a sparkle of jewellery, she wore diamond and aquamarine
drop earrings that caught the light beautifully. What made this appearance so memorable was how
it showcased Catherine's growing confidence in her royal role. It was only her second Commonwealth
Day service, following her debut the year before while pregnant with Princess Charlotte.
Fast forward to 2026 and Princess Catherine continues to embody that same grace and
dedication to the Commonwealth. Whether she's stepping out in bold reds or sophisticated
neutrals, her style always carries meaning and warmth. As we prepare for this year's service,
it's a beautiful reminder of how her presence has evolved while staying true to the values
of unity and service that the Commonwealth represents. What do you think was Princess
Catherine's most memorable Commonwealth Day look? Drop your favourites in the comments below.
