Whoa!
Welcome back to Florence guys. Today we're gonna do an Italian food tour
and I'm gonna show you the best dishes you need to try when you come to Florence.
I love Italy.
First stop is the Central Market of Florence. It's a really famous marketplace where they
sell high quality Italian produce and they also have more than 30 street food stalls here.
There's only one stall that has a really long queue which is the one right behind me.
This is porchetta. All over the market you can see these huge humps of pork meat that they
grill up for hours and hours. They slice it, they put some chili on there, some garlic sauce
and some meat gravy. Oh there's some crispy skin. Can you hear that? Hear the crispiness?
Oh my god that is so good. It's a little bit fatty, you got some punch from the chili, a lot of
flavor from the garlic. One of the things to try when you come to Florence is a Florence sandwich,
a panini. Here they have the most beautiful fresh ingredients, the bread, the cheeses.
Oh my god, just come with me. It looks amazing in here. All the cheeses, all the meats and then
the toppings that they have here in the topping bar. This looks so good. Bread looks so nice and
crispy. Yeah, it's got roast beef. This cheese here is scamorza which is smoked cheese. Then they have burrata
which is like a very gooey mozzarella type cheese. Sun-dried tomatoes and fresh homemade pesto sauce.
Wow, it's salty, cheesy, smoky. I love Italy. Normally when you come to like a touristy place
you wouldn't go to the main square to find good food, good gelato, but one of the better gelato
shops actually located right here in the square. Look, do you want more? Gelateria. Come on, let's go.
This is already a great sign. If you walk into a gelato shop in Italy and see the counter covered
in metal lids, I know it might look a little weird to us as foreigners, but these are pozzetti,
traditional containers that keep the gelato at just the right temperature so that it stays soft,
creamy and full of flavor. That's it. Okay, so we went to Eduardo's and we have econo with two
bolos which is undoubtedly not what they say in Italian. Fragola which is strawberry and then the
pistachio, salted pistachio. This is amazing. I took one of the more popular flavors here which is
nocciola, hazelnut and there's even pieces of hazelnut in there. Look at this.
You can taste like there's no bunch of preservatives and crap in there.
This is just ice cream made with love. We want to show you all of the very best dishes that
Florence has to offer. At the end of this video, we're going to go to one of the best steak
restaurants in the world to try the Bistecca alla Fiorentina, a really big three pound steak
that's supposed to be one of the culinary highlands of Florence. I guess we'll find out tomorrow.
We have come to an Osteria for a little lunch. When I think of an Italian restaurant, this is
exactly what I think of. Like beautiful and rustic looking on the inside and it only has about 10
tables. And then what I also think of is of Italian pasta. And here in Florence, pasta means
tagliatelle with wild boar ragu. Ragu is essentially like a meat sauce that's been
really slowly cooked, slowly simmered for many, many hours. It looks so unbelievable.
Why do I not have a spoon? People don't eat with a spoon here. They don't?
You will be put in the street dark.
Wow, it's meat perfection. It's just very nice and meaty, but also super soft because the pasta
is fresh and handmade and has almost like a silky texture to it. This restaurant has been in
business for over 60 years. The family that started this business moved here from the countryside of
Chianti Classico and came here to present like the dishes they have on the countryside. And this is
one of those beef pepper stew. They take these big chunks of beef and cook it very, very slowly
in a sauce with red wine, Chianti red wine. This is actually what a classical bottle of Chianti
looks like. Creamy mashed potato, some beef with the red wine sauce. Oh my god.
This is one of my favorite dishes I've had ever. I've never ever in my life tasted beef that is
this buttery, this tender. Like this is some kind of very soft cow, very relaxed cow. Unreal.
For dessert we have come to Cafe Paskowski. It's a beautiful cafe located here on the
Piazza Repubblica and we've ordered some espresso, Italian espresso. We're drinking it at the bar
because that is the typical traditional way that Italians just have their coffee. They don't do
takeaway because they don't do things in a rush. They at least take their time to just have their
coffee at the bar. It's also cheaper. Put some sugar in there, mix it up really good. It's only
like three, four teaspoons of coffee in there. That is some really strong coffee. But the main
reason we came here actually isn't for the coffee. It is for what comes with the coffee or what you
can order alongside. I have the famous Italian tiramisu. Look at all that mascarpone cream.
They have tiramisu everywhere in the world these days, but this is like the good stuff,
like the original stuff. The floofy mascarpone cream and then the
cookies are soaked in amaretto and coffee.
I had Lea at the bar recommend me something. She said this is a typical dessert from Florence. It's
some kind of rice pudding and it's put into a puff pastry. Powdered sugar on top of it.
I think there's some vanilla in there, but also very like lemony, limey. Good morning, buongiorno.
For breakfast, Italians typically do a cappuccino and a beautiful Italian pastry. These are called
pirullo. They're these cute little cones. This is a short crust pastry and on the inside
is a pudding. They come in different variations. This is super heavy.
Whoa. This cafe is actually run by a pastry chef and if I'm not mistaken,
he even invented these. These are very local things.
Oh, there's chocolate underneath here as well.
Cappuccino is typically only served in the morning here in Italy.
If you order in the afternoon at a restaurant, they'll probably say,
no, it's not the time for cappuccino now.
So in a little bit, we're gonna do the famous Bistecca alla Florentina.
But first, we're gonna take you to a restaurant that is a little bit of a hidden gem that we
discovered here. We discovered this nice little family-run restaurant here. They only have a few
tables inside and everything is made completely fresh. We had some lunch here a couple of days
ago and we just had to show you this. I have gnocchi, which is a type of Italian pasta.
Kind of like dumplings a little bit, but it's made out of potatoes mainly.
You made it? No supermarkets? All right. The guy just said to hand roll it here.
Everything is made with love and there's some homemade pesto on there made from pine nuts,
basil, garlic, olive oil, some pecorino cheese, some parmesan cheese,
and of course topped with some more cheese. I know it's going to be good because last week.
Oh my god, it's even better than I remember. Mama mia! And I have one of my personal favorite
dishes in all of Italy and I don't think this is one you've heard of before. I have a vitello tonnato,
which is a dish of cold sliced veal and served with a mayonnaise-like sauce that has been flavored
with tuna. You can see here they also drizzled the veal a little bit of extra virgin olive
oil. You have some capers here on the sauce, bursting with flavor. You can taste that it's
just nice and soft meat. I know this is probably not what a lot of people think of immediately when
they think of Italy. Just try it once. Once the chef noticed how much we were loving the food,
he insisted on bringing us a few samples to try. He just wanted us to explore his cuisine.
You need to try this as well. This is also roast beef that is made with a red wine sauce
from Chianti Classico and some olive oil. Of course everything comes with olive oil here in Italy.
Some very thinly sliced meat. He said it's all in the house.
Simone told us that he often drives around Florence on his scooter,
tasting as many products as he can and selecting only the very best to use in his dishes.
They're just making us taste everything now. We got some salami as well.
It's all on the house. Spices in there. I can taste some fennel in there.
It really tastes like the difference with like the usual supermarket stuff.
This has so much flavor and so soft. They're letting us taste everything. The guy just
keeps bringing plates for us. Wow. What is this cheese? Pecorino. Pecorino cheese.
This is aged pecorino cheese. It's a type of hard cheese.
That's what I love about coming to places like this. Like small family-run restaurants. People
here are so proud of their food and they just love showing it. Love sharing it.
Wow. All right. It's time for one of the crown jewels of Tuscan cuisine. The famous bistecca
alla florentina. This is a huge t-bone steak. Three full pounds of meat or 1.3 kilograms.
Cut from the loin of Chianini cattle. A prized Tuscan breed. You'll find plenty of places around
the city that serve it. But the spot we're visiting today is ranked among the top 100
steak restaurants. Not just in Italy but in the world. All right. We just ordered the bistecca
florentina. The big one. The three pound steak which we're going to share between the two of us.
We also have some local wine. This is Chianti Classico. Chianti is a wine region close to
here. And this wine is made from Sangiovese grape which is a grape very typical for this region.
I love this. I'm really excited about this but also just a little bit nervous because it is such
a hyped dish. And a lot of people seem to really love it. But a lot of people also seem to think
it's kind of overrated. And it is quite expensive. I have a bit of sticker shock looking at the menu.
So hoping it's gonna be good. But this is one of the 101 best steak restaurants in the world.
Oh that's a good wine. There it is ladies and gentlemen. Our bistecca alla florentina.
Three to four fingers thick and weighs around three pounds or 1.3 kilograms. At this restaurant
this bad boy costs 93 euros. If you come outside the usual lunch or dinner hours you get a 30%
discount on the steak. This is so much meat. Look at this. And it's still sizzling. That's
like the meat is still. They said like medium rare but I would say in most countries this would be
rare. That's the only way you get it here. Right actually on the menu not in this restaurant but
another restaurant it said we can do medium rare for you. If you want well done we can find you
another dish. They don't put anything on this. No sauces. No anything. Just salt and a bit of
olive oil. That's it. And they only put it on after cooking it.
Wow it's so soft. Just melts in your mouth. You got like the smoky flavor from the fire
that it's grilled on. I also really love it all around the outside. You have a few millimeters
of fat and there's probably so much flavor in there. Wow it's so red I feel like the cow is
still mooing. I'm thinking of doing something a little bit shameful. This is one of the best
steak restaurants in the world. Anyways. Some people are looking at me funny. They're just
jealous. And we finished it all. If you want to see more of Florence go watch our video the best
two days in Florence right here. With lots more food that we haven't shown you yet. If you want
