Standing 42 meters tall equivalent to a 10-story building
Just looking at these images is enough to understand why this monastery became so famous isn't it
To reach the top of the church there is only one way: climbing a ladder attached to the rock face which stretches over 40 meters
This is truly a challenging experience for anyone encountering it for the first time
Yet from ancient times no one knows how the monks managed to build houses atop such massive stone formations

The image we are seeing is a temple located at the summit of Twin Peak Mountain
Often likened to a celestial paradise hidden from the mortal world at an elevation of over 2 500 meters atop Fàn Jìng Mountain in Quỳ Châu County China
These two Buddhist temples have stood there for over 500 years since the Ming dynasty connected by an arched bridge
Surrounding us is vast majestic nature
On spring days when clouds shroud the mountain peaks the hazy scenery makes the place look like a mythical paradise
To this day the answer to how two temples were built atop the precarious hanging rock remains elusive
To reach this heavenly destination visitors must first climb more than 8 000 steps to arrive at the temple in the south
Then we'll walk across the bridge to visit the other structure located to the north
Just looking at the number of steps you have to climb makes Susie feel dizzy I tell you

The ancient city stands proudly atop a colossal 200-meter-high rock formation
Looking at these images you'd probably find it hard to recognize them
This was once a magnificent city built right atop a towering rock formation nearly 200 meters high
Now it is a place preserving the remnants of ancient palace complex
This city resembles a forgotten miniature world nestled between sky and earth
A masterpiece of nature that remains to this day Everything in the

They have rice fields trees homes and even a palace
What's particularly remarkable is that it utilizes a massive artificial reservoir
enough to sustain the people up here throughout the year without needing to descend for water
In such ancient society with such rudimentary technology
Yet the people here have built an entire city atop a rock formation soaring 200 meters high
It truly is a miracle isn't it
We've already seen temples perched on cliffs or atop mountain peaks
But a temple situated in the middle of a river is certainly something not everyone gets to see dear friends

By the time Meteora was completed as many as 24 magnificent monasteries had been built their foundations laid in sweat tears and the lives of countless people
Today following historical upheavals only six monasteries in Meteora remain intact
Each monastery of this kind houses around ten monks who live in solitude and seclusion from the outside world
