Retro gaming. To some, this could be kicking back to enjoy Zelda on a Game Boy, and to others,
Street Fighter on the SNES, or even Midnight Club on the PS2. Regardless of hearing the 8-bit
sounds of Pokemon Yellow, or holding the Zapper Gun whilst playing Duck Hunt, the nostalgia we
experience in those moments is priceless. And whilst I sit here, editing away, listening to
the sounds of Sam tapping on his original Game Boy, I can't help but get an overwhelming urge
to build a retro-themed PC, but with the punch of modern hardware. Sure, the original Game Boy
is cool and all, but imagine having a PC which looks like it can only handle Windows 98 and
Wolfenstein 3D, yet inside there's modern power to push high framerates in 1440p, even 4K. I'm
sorry Sam, it's time for us to put down Tetris for a moment and allow evolution to take place.
A retro-inspired modern evolution, if you will. Bring back the ivory. Bring back 5.25-inch drive
bays, but without the compromises. And the floppiness of days gone by, of course.
This? This is the Silverstone FLP-02. It came on our radar just a few months ago,
and there's been an immense longing to build with it. Not just for the retro throwback,
but in a space almost suffocated by RGB and glass,
this one, well I'm sure you'll agree, this one hits different.
Ah, you've decided to join me with the retro vibes then, I see.
I mean, you can't deny that the Silverstone FLP-02 is a modern retro masterpiece.
Did you know that the FLP-02 takes its name from being floppy-inspired on the 5.25-inch drive bays?
Makes sense, actually. They weren't so floppy earlier, though.
It was actually stricken with rigor mortis.
It's a quirky case, that's for sure. Did it give you those 90s PC building vibes, though?
Initially, not really. Then the tactical maneuver of removing the drive caddy occurred.
And the rest.
Yeah, I couldn't get it in.
Care to explain the idea behind an LCD display inside a case which has a solid side panel?
Seems rather pointless, no?
Right, hear me out. Let's say you're inviting your friends over.
You're a social recluse, you have no friends.
I have all the friends. And your best friend of the herd sees your PC and says,
ha, look at that old piece of crap. And then you whip off the side panel
and reveal the magic within. Greatest. Flex. Ever.
Fair. That's a party trick I can get behind, I guess. But you do need friends for that.
Noted, but friends are digital anyway, and I can FaceTime them my masterpiece.
Besides, it's a sweet and powerful cooler regardless.
So you've managed to get snezzy with it and create a retro gamer's nerdy dream.
What comes next? The most futuristic PC with a fusion reactor?
That's what the magical keys are for. They're the keys for the future dimension.
The future is insane.
Oh, have you been?
Nope.
Well, shall I?
Do it.
