Hey guys, Spencer Coffman here.
Today I'm going to show you how to download the automatic YouTube captions on the new
YouTube Studio.
So I've been getting a lot of requests.
I have several other YouTube videos on Firefox and Chrome and updated versions on how you
guys can download your subtitles.
But when YouTube switched recently to the new YouTube Studio, all of that changed.
So some of the steps are the same, but the rest you kind of have to muddle through.
So here we are.
I'm going to show you a new method, how to download your YouTube subtitles on YouTube
Studio and we're using Google Chrome.
So here I am on my YouTube channel.
We're going to take this video, how to post to multiple Facebook groups.
So we'll click on it, opens up.
We don't want this ad.
So let's mute this and skip the ad.
Now here we are on the video.
So the steps are going to be the same up to a certain point.
We want to right click or click with two fingers and hit inspect and that's going to bring
up our inspection on the side of the page here.
We'll go to network and from network we are going to pause the video until this loads.
Now it's going to be the same thing.
So we're going to play the video.
So we're moving.
Click on the closed captions so the subtitles comes up.
Then I'm going to pause the video so things stop loading so fast.
And then here's what we want is this timed text right there.
So we're going to right click on it or click with two fingers and then open in new tab.
So this is all the same as the previous videos except now here this loads up as a JSON file
instead of something you can download as HTML.
So that poses a complication because our subtitles are hidden within all of this text here.
So how do we get it?
Well we're going to CMD or CTRL A and then CMD or CTRL C to select all and copy.
From there I've discovered this handy tool online called json2csv.com.
Now this will be linked in the description below so you can click on it and go here and
all you have to do is paste everything we copied right here and it's going to convert
it into a handy chart that we can either download as a CSV, Excel, you can copy the whole thing,
whatever you like.
But here's the point is it's separated all of this and here is what we want right here.
This is the subtitle for the entire video in this column.
So in order to get that column alone I'm going to save this as an Excel then I'll open it
up because now it's saved to your downloads or wherever and that's going to open in Excel
at some point or we'll just click on it here.
Now I'm going to delete this first part of events because that's nothing we need then
highlight the whole row, copy it and now I'm going to take it back over to our handy dandy
line break removal tool from TextFixer.
So again this is going to be linked in the description below.
So we're going to go down, we'll hit remove line breaks and paragraph breaks, paste it
in here and then click the button and now we've got a whole good block of text all edited
except there's one problem.
We have this goofy slash N that's in here but never fear we will go over here to a text
edit or note pad or word pad, whatever you're using.
We're going to paste this in then we'll go up to file and format, make plain text.
So we're just going to convert it to regular and now command or control F to find what
you're looking for and we're going to copy this slash N right here and then over here
we're going to do replace.
Now some programs that you have this is called find and replace so if this isn't working
for you search for the find and replace and then since we don't even want this here we
just want to delete it.
So rather than filling in any words here all we're going to do is go over here and click
replace and then click on all right here, boom, and that just deleted all of those instances.
Then the next thing I want to do obviously is fix my name, probably capitalize the first
word and there we go.
This is how to download your automatic YouTube subtitles or closed captions from YouTube
using Google Chrome on the new YouTube Studio.
So I really hope that you are able to follow these steps and that it works for you.

You can also send me a message on my Facebook page with a screen recording of your own or
some screenshots and I can help you out there.
But I really hope this will help you.
Feel free if it does, please comment so I know it's working for you and also I hope
