Succulent Root Rot Rescue Clean Tour Vlog 360

Succulent plant

The recent rain caused havoc on my succulents. It's now time to clean and rescue some of them.

A few weeks ago we had experienced summer temperature of 43 plus degrees Celsius
here in Canberra, Australia. After that we had no rain for a few weeks and five days ago we had
rain and it was slow and soaking and wetting my succulents and because of that my poor babies
has experienced rotting, rotting and more rotting, rotting. So in today's video we are going to do
the 3R tour. That is the rot, rot video tour and cleaning. Well a couple of days ago that is
after the rain sort of eased off a bit. Seems like everywhere I look all I can see is rotting
but after a couple of days of letting them dry up seems that I can only find a few
that have rotted away. So this one is Simulans Ascension. It just needs cleaning.
It doesn't really have that much rotting so she's still beautiful. This is our first customer. This
is Echeveria Pink Champagne, one of my last two Pink Champagne. The other one rotted a few weeks
ago and that is now growing a baby but this one is rot, rot, rot. But I let this dry up for a couple
of days after the rain so that it will get sanitized or give time for the plant to adjust
and calm down because if I've cleaned it up right now and then the rot would have continued. So
anyway now that's looking beautiful. I just have to turn this around and oh I'm spinning around.
Okay whoops pull you. Oh be careful just in case I stab it then it wouldn't be good.
So you can see that ah that's a lot of rot isn't it. So okay bottom first remove
from the side. There you go. Remove from the bottom and the top. There's more. Oh my goodness
that one's okay. So now we're gonna go over here. It doesn't seem to be a lot
when you look at it because she looks so pretty but that's a lot of rot. And that one we remove
because that's all dried up. Oopsie. Okay so that's not gonna grow anymore so we throw it away.
So so far she's looking pretty again. Purple Champagne I should say. Pink Champagne. I kept
saying Pink Champagne but this is Purple Champagne. She does have a purple look about it. So purple
or pink one and the same. Down in the bottom here I've got my Agavoidis number 40 which I
changed the name to Dandan which means red. And right now she's not red. She's more sort of
blushing red. Dirty red actually. But she's got some rotting underneath. See look at that.
Soft as the voice of an angel. Anyway this is not very angelic isn't it. Okay so we go clean it up
as well. Look look at all of that underneath hiding there. When you see it from the top it looks so
good that you think nothing untowards is going on but there's a lot of secrets. Like this one here.
It looks so pretty. My Mexican tears. What is the difference between Mexican tears and... So one on
the right is Heart's Choice and it's got little heart bumps. Oh look at all those beautiful heart
bumps. Can you see the heart bumps? So it's like heart, heart, heart. And these ones are tears or
Mexican tears specifically. So that one looks very pretty. That one looks very pretty too. But we
check underneath. It's not too bad. There's only a couple of dry leaves hiding there. But these
need to be maintained because if you don't remove them that will encourage... Ah I stabbed it. I'm
sorry. I'm sorry. My heart's delight. I know it's not very delightful but anyhow I need to remove
this rock now. Because before... Look at all the roots underneath. I'm gonna have to cover it up.
And then of course... Oh look at all of them. So this thing is actually screaming for more soil please.
I need to have contact with the soil. And at the moment I felt some droplets on me. Don't tell me
it's going to rain again. Oh no. Oh no no. Okay I'll put back. My heart's delight. And we are
concentrating on these Mexican tears. Now pretty isn't she? But look. Ah root rot. Root rot. Look
at that. Okay so I'm gonna clean this up. And of course you have to see it from that view. I'm just
gonna pull them out. Okay I think I better use my other long tweezer to remove this. Ah that's all
still soft. I would have loved to leave it a few more days. But then anyway I already started. So I
might as well continue with the rescue. Ah oh I hit one leaf. But it doesn't matter. Because I can't
see. Oh it also smells by the way. Has a stinky stinky smell. Okay it's got a stinky stinky smell.
The one you don't want to take home to mama. Okay I need less resistance. So I need my little
forceps to remove this. Oopsie. Okay that is rotted. I have to see from underneath but anyway.
And sadly I can't show you because I have to lift this up. Do I? Okay let's go down if that's
so you can see. Come a little closer and you will see. Look at this. Oh look at that.
Nasty little soft mess. Look at that. Did I mention that it's stinky? It has a smell.
Ah I don't like it. Like a rotting smell. Oopsie. We're gonna do death roll. Okay very good.
Another death roll for this one. There you go. I got the tips and all. And there's more. Look
underneath there. You gotta take that off. Because if we don't something bad's gonna happen
and we don't like it. Okay that's it. And of course under more. Under and over. Oops I broke
it. So now let's go get uh I don't know which tool to use now. Okay that one. It's just a weed.
Oopsie. Death roll again. Yep. Oh jeez I am sweating here. It's still hot hot hot.
What time is it now? It's 5 30. And in the afternoon. And it's still 31 degrees. That's
what it says. On my temperature gauge. It's probably hotter. Because uh muggy. Because it's
been wet of course. So humidity is high. And there you go. That's it. She looks pretty now.
And so we'll move on to the next one. This is now my rescue. Hopefully she is rescued. And I don't
see any mealy bug. So it should be okay. But just to make sure. I'm gonna use my methyl. This is my
methylated spirit spray. You go back there. And we just give it a good squirt. It's like
disinfectant. By the way before I take it away. Show you all the rotted leaves that is hiding
from this sort of medium size. Because I wouldn't say that's a small plant. It's a medium sized
plant. But anyway I love my bumps. My bumps is just so beautiful. Now this one is not pretty at all.
Look at those nasty rotted plants here. Poor baby. Look at that. And there's also some insects
crawling out of it. So also oh something was digging. I think this is because of snails. I
don't even know how the snail got so high up there. But there's snail poop in it. Okay digging up. I
hope they're not hiding underneath here. Look there's a lot of these um I think insects that
crawling from the soil. I hope they're good bug. Not the bad bug. But anywho this one is bugging me.
So I need to remove this. That way it won't also bug my plant. Poor thing. So these ones are actually
hybrid. So it's a mix of hybrid that I bought maybe three months ago. And they did not grow
very fast at all. They're slow growers. Let's just see if I put a date. No I did not. So these are
hybrids that I got. I think I done a video. A plant haul video on this one. Okay I need
a pointy tweezer to tackle this. But I have to be careful. We don't want to stab it.
If we stab it, it will die. And I don't want it to die. Okay so hopefully it will recover. But for
the meantime this one is looking wonky. So I'm gonna remove one of the leaves. Just hopefully
that will grow. But again you can see that that is probably a little bit sus. I don't think it's
gonna grow. But I'll give it a chance. Put it there. Just so maybe it might grow some pups.
So that way from something bad, something good will come out of it. And then this one I'll do
the same. I don't like it when they rot like this. But we have to rescue the poor baby.
The stem still looks all right. So as you can see from. So there you go. So it's still nice and
healthy. Sort of a peachy color. Pink. So it should still be okay I hope. But I don't like those bugs
crawling around. So maybe if we give it more air those bugs will die. I don't like you bugs. Okay
now that one too. Just little touches. Hang on. That one. It's not so bad. Just a couple of leaves.
Also from this side. I don't know if you can see that one. But anyway.
Okay there we go. Now there's one rotting. So we take that off. And maybe and a baby.
Prospective baby from the leaves that came off. So we need to give it a lot of air. So
I'll put some granite on the edge of it. But no soil. That way the plant can breathe.
And sort of shoo away those nasty little bugs. If they are nasty bugs. Okay.
No stabbing please. There you go. And okay. That's good enough. And as per usual I'm going
give it some spritzing. There you go. All good. Next. So this other hard pot that I've got here.
Looks like this has been decimated by the heat before. So there's a few that dried up. So hang
on. That's weeds. And then that one was one plant. That's gone. And then that one too. There's no
hope rescuing on that one. So I might as well take them out. And that one too. So three.
And also this one. Even though it's got a little maybe. Oh look. Maybe. Maybe. But I'll just put
that there. See if it grows. But the main plant that's all like rotted. Not good anyway. So gone
are the days when he would take me in his arms. Okay. Now the rest of this I need to
clean up. So hopefully this will live. I want to live until I die. Happily that is.
Don't we all? Okay. So that one's rotting as well. No good. And that one maybe not.
So once it's sort of translucent there's no hope. See like that. I'm sorry my love. Okay. Goodbye.
That one too. Now this one now. Hang on. Clean it up as well. And of course this one.
I have to feel my way through. Because this is pointy tweezer. I don't want to stab
this poor plant. So just gently on the other side as well. Anything that's blackish
because there's no hope anymore. That one too. It's got a smell as well.
Like a sour smell of rotting fruit almost. Okay. That one. That one. See look. That's no good.
You're no good. You're no good. Baby you're no good. Okay. That's it. Are you good? No. Not yet.
Still another one. And another one. Let's see. Did you get hit on the stem? I don't think so. I don't
know. Okay. So again we do the same drill. We spritz, spritz, spritz, spritz, spritz. Might as
well spritz this one too. Just in case. And we spritz the soil. Any nasties will get killed.
There you go. Oh I think I still got one more. Yeah. Rotting. Okay. Next. And next is actually
this one because I thought it's all good but I saw some dry leaves. Yeah. Might as well clean it up.
So she doesn't need that much rescuing. She just needs a little maintenance. There you go.
Oops. I pulled off a couple of leaves. That's all right. Because hopefully they grow into babies.
Another one came off. Is that a good sign? Maybe. Okay. So now I can put this away. And while
there's an empty spot, let's go find some plants to put in here. And check out this variegated
Pat's Pink that I actually cut off and forgot. And then now I just put it here. I took these
cuttings about a couple of weeks ago. And look at the babies. Also the leaves. Oh my goodness. Look
how many pups is growing. So I just stuck it in here. Look. Even that one's got roots. Oh my goodness.
It's like a hundred percent growth. Oops. Ninety-nine because I dropped it. But oh see
ninety-nine because that one rotted away. But there you go. Another one. So out of how many?
One, two, three, four, five, six, seven. Including the one that dropped. So that's seven leaves
that I can now plant in here. So I'll put the big one here. I'll remove that label because that's
gone. And then that one over there. And then this one. The little babies. I'm going to just stick it
in there. You can grow. Oops. Hopefully they will revert back to being variegated. And of course see
how it's sort of bent. But it doesn't matter. Stick in the soil. It will find its way. So Sedum
as well. It's the growing season right now when it's cool. The temperature cools down. Especially
with the rain they grow. But once it gets cold again they will go into dormancy and start growing.
So they only have really about two months of growing to do. So that's why they grow so fast.
So any of your Sedum clavatum as well. This is the best time to take cuttings and propagate them.
I should have taken cuttings about a month ago. But of course I forgot because I got lots of
things to do. But anyway so now it's all looking good. So I can put this back now where it came
from. And also I can leave this outside. And these plants as well. They're sort of
semi-frost hardy along with the past pink. So that's why I put them all together in this pot.
Red girls. Talking about the rotting red girls. So this is such a beautiful beautiful beautiful
plant that I don't want it to die. So I've got a little bit of powdery milky or fungus
growing in there. So what do we do? We spritz it. There you go. Stops the fungus. We stop the fungus.
Yeah okay. Now this one as well. It's got little white fluffy bits. So can you see that? So I'm
gonna get my little stick that I blunted up on the end. So I don't stab my beautiful babies.
I'm gonna put my stick in there. And then put that there. And look. Mealybug. You see the
mealybug? I killed it. So just twirl around with a barbecue stick. And she comes off. And of course
we have to spray it. There you go. And spray the rest as well. Just in case they all got infected
as well with the fungus. Because we got fungus. Fungus. We got fungus. Okay. Cleaning time.
Just remove all the rotting that is plaguing my red girls. Okay. So we just remove this one.
Okay. So look at that. I don't like it. Okay. So this opens up as well. This area.
Because this. I think they're conch girls. Or conch girls. These beautiful ones here.
So they can grow. And to think. I didn't have that much of them. So I can actually harvest
some of this now. See like that one there. I should really remove that one. So I can give
room for my red girls to pop out on this side. So I should really remove this side.
So that way these ones can just grow. Okay. Should I do that? Let's go do that. Okay.
I'll take this off. Ooh. Roots and all. And I have a soil I prepared earlier. But I need to
clean it up. So I'm going to put it over here. You can go there. So this is the soil I prepared
earlier. And so let's go back to our We Rescue You. Now I need my gorseps. There's no crunch
this time. Because oh. I lied. A little bit. Not that much. It's a bit leathery. Because it was
wet. That's my girl. Can you see that there? Under there. Remove. I think my battery's about to run
out. It's winking at me. So I might need to change the battery. So hopefully I get to do just one
even. This one is no good. So remove that one. Okay. So that one. Plant done. And for the meantime,
there's some loose leaves. I want to harvest some leaves out of these red girls. Because I haven't
propagated them from leaves yet. So this is a good time to harvest some leaves. Let's steal
some leaves. I'm sorry. Okay. There you go. So anything that sort of makes them look wonky.
There you go. That evens it out. Is that pretty enough? Are you pretty enough? Yeah. You're still
good. So we can leave that there. Now I have to change my battery. And this one, I need to put,
bring this inside. And grow them inside. So I'm all charged up now with my battery pack. So
we continue cleaning this up. Or should I say? Rescue. Root. Rot. Rescue. So the three R's.
RRR. Whom of you have watched the, was that two R's? Or three R's? A movie. It's a Bollywood movie.
So sort of action and music and dance. And I thoroughly enjoyed it. The RRR. I think three
R's it was. This is now a few years ago on Netflix. So I don't know if there's a RRR too.
But anyway, so this one now is looking a lot better. So just a couple more dry leaves really.
And of course, that's it. I think that one there too. Just dry leaves. And there you go. That looks
better. Okay. So from that little area that we cleaned up, look how much mess. See all that mess
that came from just this small cluster of succulent. The red girls. Red girls. Talking
about clean girls. Not a dirty, dirty girl. But this conch now. I need to, this conch girl. So
two girls. So red girl and conch girl. Gee, I'm funny. There must be another girl here before,
but that probably died. So I only got two girls left. So now this one is just a matter of cleaning
up, but I'm not going to show you that. I am just going to do this in the quiet. But for the
meantime, I really want to clean up this Graptoveria Pretty and Pink, which has got a touch
of mealybug there as well. See that white fluff there? That is mealybug. So they're getting dropped
off by the head mealybug or the grandmother mealybug or grandfather mealybug, dropping them
here. You can start a colony here. That's why the minute I see them, I like to remove them just so
they can't establish a colony. Because if you leave it too long with this as well being dirty,
you can see all those dry leaves there. Then mealybug will take over and kill this beautiful
Pretty and Pink and she won't be pretty anymore. So coming on autumn as well, or being autumn now
here in Australia, this is the best time to propagate them. So before I could propagate them
via chop, chop, chop, I really like to clean them up first. And having lost a leaf,
there's no drama. I'm not going to be broken hearted over it because they can easily grow
pups like this one here. So this was taken a few weeks ago and look, just the leaf of this Pretty
and Pink and look at all the variegated babies. It grows variegated. Also that one there, that one
actually, the small leaf was grown from an inflorescent stalk, which means it grew a flower
and then there's some leaves in it. I harvested the leaves. That's why they're smaller.
And yet they also grow pups and are also variegated. So there's still some here. So that
one too. Okay. And then that one has taken off, off with a baby. I can't see any variegation
because it's still small, but it definitely grows pups. And this one by the look of things is also
crested. Oh my goodness. Look at that. So I didn't even notice it. So hopefully it will continue on
its cresting. And if not, it will grow two heads. So I'll put this one back here and then I'll take
this one now and put it under here because I can see them better. I can see clearly now
my Pretty Pink is growing. Okay. There you go. So now no more dry leaves. So this is my original
mother head that I chopped off, or this came from that plant that I chopped, chopped, chopped,
and then planted here. And now this one grew more heads. Now I've got a whole heap of Pretty and
Pink. It was $30 originally when I bought it. And I think it was only one head. And so now I have
many, many heads. And if I were to cut this off and sell this, even I'd say $10 a head now,
then I still have a 10, 20, 30, 40, $50. I have more than doubled my money.
But I won't be selling them. I will just continue growing them because I love, love, love my Pretty
and Pink. Anyway, guys, that's all I got for this video as I continue harvesting a couple more
because it's sort of uneven. I'll take another one here and then that still looks pretty. And
then that one in the bottom is sort of limpy. Maybe that one will not grow anymore. I don't
think so because it's all really dry. So we chuck that away. But these two have a chance of producing
more Pretty and Pink for me. But anyway, this one now is almost clean. Now all I have to do
is have some fun with this by removing one head. I'm taking this one. I'm just going to twist it.
It still shocks me every time I lose a leaf. But another baby. And another baby. So thank you so
much for watching, guys, and hope I'll see you on the next video. So go ahead. Go and rescue
your succulents that are grown in winter. I mean, grown in autumn, that is. Because this one
is a Graptoveria intergeneric hybrid of Graptopetalum, which is a cold-loving
succulent, and also Echeveria, which is a warm-loving succulent. So now this one I let dry
and in a few days I will plant this in its own pretty, pretty pot. Anyway. Oh, by the way,
those yellow ones, I will not touch them, even this one. I will leave it on the original stalk
because if I remove this, chances are they will just die. So I'll see. Well, eventually this one
will die because it doesn't have any chlorophyll. It can't feed itself. So I leave it there to
grow on its own. Oh, this one. Where did you come from? Oh, it did not fell off from the other one.
Okay, I'll put this back to where you belong. But before I go again, I just thought I'd show
you some more Mealybug. In here, look, see, another white one. So we go twirl and also
normally in between they would grow. I mean, see, look at that. They hide in there. So tight spots.
So what we're going to do, we're going to spray some methyl. So this is denatured alcohol or
one cup methylated spirit and a quarter cup water. Simple. And what happens is it removes
the coating and then you can see them. And also the second spray is once the coating or the white
coating is removed, that's when they die. Okay. Now I'll put that one back here. Hang on. Oh,
do not get hit. Please do not, do not get hit. Okay. So I got a few more to go through here.
And also I'm just looking for any that one. I'm going to do that on the next video because
that is more delicate matter to do. And so as a few of my little babies, oh, I just,
the pet's pink that I took off the only, there would only be about two weeks ago when I chop,
chop this. And look at that. All the babies coming out and it's variegated.
How beautiful. Yes. Also this one here. So I just want to spray this with, because with the
methyl, because that is also, look, that is some fungus, fungus, fungus. So we spray with fungus,
let it settle down. And tomorrow I am going to clean it up. Is there more mealybug here? Spray.
Another one I could clean up. Mealybug here as well. Spray. Is there any more we can spray?
Oh yes. That one too. Spray. And are you still there? Yes. Now it's a dead.
Oh, hello, gorgeous. I'm sorry. I overlooked you. I have to remove just one, just one rotted root
rot leaf.
