In this video, we break down the exact hip rotation sequence used by professionals to create a more natural, relaxed, and powerful golf swing. Many golfers make the mistake of rotating too early, leading to a loss of power and inconsistent ball striking.
We reveal why the shift must come before the turn, and how a simple move with your lead leg can unlock total hip clearance.
Welcome to this video. In this video I will show you the exact sequence of the hip movement.
When you understand and train this order, your hip movement will feel more natural,
more relaxed and more powerful.
At the top of the backswing, your knees, hips and shoulders are still close to the target.
The hip moves together with the shoulders, so the upper body can complete the turn and build tension.
From this position, most golfers try to actively rotate the hips right away,
but rotation must not be the first move.
The first move is a shift of the hips toward the target.
The real rotation happens after that.
Why is this shift so important?
Because it moves your weight onto your front foot.
Once your weight is forward, rotation becomes much easier.
Only when the weight is on the front foot, do the hips truly begin to rotate.
This rotation creates separation between the lower body and the upper body.
It builds tension, which is later transferred into the club and the club face at impact.
To keep the rotation going until impact and to make sure the hips are really open,
you need a final step, the extension of the lead leg.
When your left arm is parallel to the ground in the downswing, the lead leg begins to straighten.
This extension allows the hips to clear and open completely.
Now you have the full sequence.
First shift the hips forward to move the weight, then rotate.
Finally straighten the left knee, so the hips open more.
If you train this order, your hip turn will become automatic.
Practice these three steps first without a ball.
Then add drills with a ball to bring the movement into your full swing.
Make sure to watch my next video, where I will show you the connection between leg and a straight arm after impact.
But the fastest way to learn a good golf swing is with good feedback during your training.
