I heard you can find Okinawa food at Takashimaya Square from 15 to 21 January.
It's part of the CNY celebration.
I'm super excited because I love Okinawa.
The vibes, the beaches, and of course, the food.
And the best part, all the super popular Okinawan food and products are here in Singapore.
So today, I'm going to try everything.
Alright, we are here.
Look at the energy.
I think Taka does this every year.
It's the Lunar New Year's festive celebration from 15 Jan to 15 Feb.
But again, the Okinawa booth is only here until 21 Jan.
So if you love Okinawa or you're a curious to try unique Japanese food,
make sure you come down before it's over.
And yes, I said unique Japanese food.
Because Okinawa cuisine is very different from what you can usually find in Japan.
That's because Okinawa used to be its own kingdom called the Rikyu Kingdom
until it was officially incorporated into Japan in 1879.
So over time, Okinawa developed its own unique food culture.
On top of that, after World War II, Okinawa was under the United States for 27 years.
And you can still see American influence today.
So it's really a fusion of Okinawan, Japanese, and American.
Making it one of the most unique cuisines in Japan.
Alright, enough talking. Let's eat!
Okay guys, I found it.
This is the Okinawa booth.
It's under Shinrai Shoten.
And so many of their products are here for the first time in Singapore.
Again, my challenge is to try everything.
I'm gonna try them all.
Wow, I've never seen this.
Alright, first up, Tuna Gyoza by Ryuu Minmin.
It's one of the most popular gyoza specialty shop in Okinawa since 1965.
So their bestseller is the one using local pork.
But, they came up with a new recipe using tuna.
Just for the Singapore market.
And wow, smells amazing.
Cheers!
Mmm, OMG!
That's so good!
It almost tastes like pork. Why?
It's so meaty.
Oh, but yeah, I'm starting to taste the tuna.
Very savory.
It will go perfect with rice.
And you can even throw it in your Chinese New Year hotpot.
And I think they use mozuku.
It's their local kelp, which is great for longevity.
Very healthy.
So Okinawa is also known for tuna.
So it really makes sense.
Wow, this is so delicious.
Again, it's a rare opportunity to try something like this.
Tuna Gyoza.
This sounds interesting too.
Mamiya Kamaboko since 1945.
Twice awarded Japan's number one.
I've heard of it.
It's very popular, but it's my first time.
Cheers!
Nabe ni mo ii shi.
De mozuku mo haittekara, chotto genkou deki na.
Oh, you have garlic, huh?
I sense many of my SG audience will love this.
Super garlicky.
It's rare in Japan that they put so much garlic, you know?
Wow, it almost feels like they made it for Singapore.
Great with beer, I think.
It's not just bouncy, there's a nice bite to it.
I don't know how to explain it.
Oh, this is delicious.
Okay, next up, cheese.
It's real cheese inside, and it's so flavorful.
I think this is the best Kamaboko I had.
No kidding.
Mamiya Kamaboko since 1945.
Is this the first time they come to Singapore?
First time, yes, yes.
First time to SG, and you guys can try it here.
Oh, this is mind-blowing.
So delicious.
It's very nice, and the flavor is like bomb.
They even have Umi Budo.
This is the so-called green caviar from Okinawa.
It's something I always, always eat.
100% I eat when I go to Okinawa.
It's a must.
Buy it here, get one free.
A beautiful box.
I have a pro CNY tip.
You can use these as your longevity seaweed
as a topping for your Yusheng this festive season.
This gentleman also recommend this one.
It's Okinawan mozuku and mekabu soup.
So it's instant soup.
So all you have to do is add hot water.
Hai, arigatou gozaimasu.
Ah, it's so comforting.
Wow, and I love the crunch of the seaweed and the mekabu.
And oh my God, this is also one of my favorite things
to get at Okinawa, shikuwasa.
So you can use this as a dressing,
but I usually dilute it with soda water.
So shikuwasa is Okinawan citrus.
Wow, so refreshing, so zesty and super healthy.
It's rich in antioxidants, promotes blood circulation,
help regulate blood sugar.
I always buy this before returning to Singapore
and my wife also loves it.
She likes to add honey to make it a bit sweet.
It also goes well with 100 plus.
100% recommend.
Guys, there's so many food to try.
I only tried a bit from this corner
and there's more over here.
Wow, look at that.
Wow, so big, the shiitake.
I did not know Okinawa famous for shiitake.
Limited, very hard to find.
Oh, super rare.
But this one cannot try, right?
Oh, can try?
Not everybody, this is for you.
Ah, for me, okay, thank you, thank you.
Wow, wow.
Did you make this?
My wife.
Oh, your wife?
Thank you, thank you.
Wow, onigiri.
Whoa.
I think my wife will love me more if I had this perfume.
Wow, so fragrant.
Oh my god, that's mind blowing.
Super plump and oh, so aromatic.
This is top grade shiitake.
I just met my viewer who,
you look for this every year, right?
Yes.
You like it so much?
And I feel like the price not too bad
for this top grade shiitake from Japan, Okinawa.
And I heard they are doing 20% off promo right now.
So this is pure brown sugar from Ginoza,
which is an area in central Okinawa.
And they make it the traditional way.
Typical brown sugar, it's kind of sticky.
They only use the initial squeeze of the sugarcane.
That's why it tastes so clean, but robust.
I think it's great for coffee, using in cooking.
Oh, there's booze.
And you know what that means.
Heavenly gumbo.
Oh man, I'm just so in love with this Mamiya Tamabogo.
One of the best fish cakes I had.
Yeah, it tastes like whiskey,
but I do taste the awamori too.
Awamori usually has this fermented, strong flavor,
which not everybody like, but this is easy to drink.
And the price not bad at $42 for 43% of alcohol.
Next up, this is a very, very unique and rare umeshu.
So usually this is made with plum and shochu,
but this brand, they use awamori,
which is Okinawa's liquor.
And it's not any awamori, it's aged awamori.
Excited to try this, cheers.
Oh, it's very complex.
I love the complexity.
It's not just sweet.
There's so much dimension to it.
Oh, so delicious.
Easy to drink too.
Great as is, and you can also drink with soda.
Ooh, they also sell dashi stock.
Wow.
So comforting, so nourishing.
Tastes very clean, intense aroma.
So these dashi stocks are made from premium combination
of bonito, mackerel, urume, which are round herring,
kelp, and shiitake.
And the urume fish is the unusual ingredient.
And it has so much dimension, flavor, sweetness.
And Okinawa fare is not just about food.
There are health-boosting products.
So if you don't know, Okinawa is known for longevity.
A lot of the longest living humans
are actually from Okinawa.
They stay in Okinawa.
This one's called Genmai Fuudeko.
It's a convenient nutritional powerhouse
made from whole Okinawa-brand rice
that supports your daily vitality.
It's rich in natural vitamins, minerals, and dietary fiber.
And what's great is that
genmai is usually very difficult to digest,
but this product, they use genmai that's easy to digest.
So you just pop this in your mouth.
Oh, wow, wow, wow.
Wow, very easy to drink.
Boy, this is so interesting.
Deep Sea Shark Liver Oil Capsule.
So shark liver oil is called squalane.
It's my first time hearing this.
It can help hydrate skin and hair.
It may also reduce inflammation
and damage from free radicals.
So this company uses 100% pure squalane oil.
It's non-greasy, easy to take.
It's just like fish oil.
Oh my God, they got jimami tofu.
This is one of my favorite Okinawan food.
It's tofu made from peanut, only in Okinawa.
I had this last time in Okinawa.
In fact, I always try this.
My SG wife also loves it.
If you never tried it, I recommend you to come here.
It's only 8.90 for three.
You'll fall in love with it.
You'll find nothing like this.
Oh, I want to introduce this to you guys.
Remember I said Okinawa has a lot of American influence?
This is just one example.
Bushi Teritare is a fat-free,
award-winning artisanal sauce
that is supposed to go well with literally anything.
It uses a unique two-stage fire,
a method for grinding dried bonito,
which is why there is a deep umami punch.
I'm going to put it on the kamaboko I just had.
Wow, it has so much umami to it.
It's a slightly vinegary, packs a lot of the bonito flavor.
It's perfect for steak and also enhancing ramen
or any kind of noodles,
but really will go well with anything.
Wow, seaweed using Okinawa brown sugar.
Yeah, I do taste the brown sugar.
Wow, very crispy and aromatic.
So of course, this fair has many other food
and I can't show you everything, but why don't we try this?
This booth sells all the staples of sea and wine,
such as abalone.
That's so soft and chewy.
So much flavor too, wow.
Next up, the Half Kitchen.
It's a popular cookie brand from Taiwan.
Salted egg cookie, wow, interesting.
Thank you.
So soft, but it's crispy on the inside.
There's some crispy bits, salty, sweet, rich.
Oh, it's so good.
I never had a cookie like this.
Again, what makes this fair so fun
is that you can try a lot of the food.
You'll definitely find your favorite here.
This brand is from Penang, Malaysia.
So here, everything's made handmade, traditional,
and I'm trying their love letter.
So good too.
Super light and crispy on the outside.
So, so, so fragrant and salty and sweet at the same time.
I think it's the best love letter I have.
Wow, that was really, really fun and delicious.
We tried a lot of food,
but I think my top recommendation will be the tuna gyoza.
Super meaty, but clean, so delicious.
N-O-M-G, the kamaboko.
Mind-blowing fish cakes, especially the garlic flavor.
But really, everything deserves a shout out.
It was all good.
You might now be wondering,
hey, how do I get to Okinawa?
I want to go now.
But there's actually a direct flight,
and it only takes like five hours from Singapore.
Alternatively, it's easy to combine
with your Tokyo and Osaka itinerary,
because it's only about two hour flight
from Tokyo or Osaka.
Thank you, Okinawa, for sponsoring this video.
I really recommend you to come here.
It's so fun and delicious.
Have a good day, guys.
Jipun Lanza, yeah.
