Michelle Pfeiffer chats with ET's Emily Curl at the premiere of 'The Madison,' streaming March 14 on Paramount+. Michelle explains why this moment in her career feels so 'liberating,' and gushes about her co-star, Amiah Miller, who some have called her ‘look-alike.’ Plus, Michelle describes the one 'argument' she lost to Taylor Sheridan before signing on to this new show.
You look amazing. What was so cool is I was getting emotional seeing all the girls from the cast posing together in this photo.
What a special group.
It really is. And we really look like family.
And from the first moment that I met them, I couldn't believe what I was seeing.
So yeah, it's a very, and they're so gifted and such wonderful humans. I love them. I really love them.
Amaya was saying how she got complimented so much, saying that she already got, that she looks like a young Michelle Pfeiffer.
What do you think about that?
Yeah, I mean, I'm unbelievably flattered. She's so ethereal and otherworldly.
I know you are hurting. We are all hurting.
I'm 65 years old.
I have a very small window to feed this.
Wanna go fishing?
I don't know how.
Neither do I. But men do it drunk.
So how hard can it be?
You truly shine in this show. I was blown away by your performance.
And you've described this time in your career as liberating.
Can you talk to me a little bit about what that means to you?
I just can do whatever I want.
And I have a husband who's able to travel with me because he can write anywhere.
And who's willing to travel anywhere with me because otherwise I wouldn't be able to do it.
And I think we both know that I've put in my time and now it's my time.
And I'm very excited.
And you know the landscape has changed so much.
There's so many more opportunities for women my age and especially in television.
Which didn't used to be the case even 10 years ago.
So it's a very exciting time.
And I know Taylor was a fan of yours.
He kind of had you in mind for this whole series.
He wrapped you around.
Were you a Taylor fan?
Did you watch a lot of the shows?
Were you a Yellowstone fan?
Not everything.
Yellowstone and Lioness is I think at the moment my favorite show.
What was it like to get to work with him on this project?
And basically have him say I built this show around you.
It's pretty heady.
And I felt it a little bit.
I felt like wow okay they're giving me a lot of responsibility here.
But obviously it's incredibly flattering.
And I committed to it without having read anything.
It was really just him explaining kind of the scope of the character.
And kind of an outline of where it was going.
And I said well I'd really love to read something.
And he said no.
No I really like to cast it first and then I write.
I said well I'd really like to read something and then I commit.
Anyway we went back and forth.
We went back and forth over a couple of weeks like that.
And then I realized I wasn't going to win this argument.
And I was either going to have to commit or give it up.
You know at night a bull elk come down to the river and bugle.
And it drives the lady elk crazy.
They bugle.
I remember when you used to bugle.
And then you're reuniting with Kurt.
What was it like being back on set with him?
And how would you describe your dynamic together?
It was like no time had passed.
He's just the most fun.
You feel so safe working with him.
He'll come back at you no matter what you throw at him.
So you just feel like you can do anything.
And he'll be there.
He'll be there to support you.
You should be so proud.
Congratulations.
He's so good.
He's so good in the show.
He's so good.
Thank you.
