Self-Care Night | VLOG

Hi everybody. I don't typically start videos at night so this is pretty new for me. The last two weeks I have been absolutely swamped with midterms. They've killed me. I'm sleep deprived. I'm a little bit sick. So tonight we're taking it easy. I know it's midterm season for a lot of college students right now so if you're in the middle of this or just getting out of this, I hope this video is like a way for you to relax and reset. I'm actually super excited for tonight because I just picked up a few packages that I have been eagerly waiting for. I did a little bit of retail therapy. Now I am not someone to typically spend money like this. I'm looking at it as like an investment into my future, into my craft. But I got a new YouTube setup and I am just so excited to unbox it. So let's do that now. I hope that's a good angle. Okay let me take off this jacket first. It's a bit chilly in my room lately but I feel like this jacket is just like too loud, you know? At least for filming. Boom. How does that sound? I hope good. So I've been making all my videos on my iPhone and honestly it works great. I think the camera quality is great. I love how easy it is to take around. I love that you can plug in little mics to it and it looks and sounds great. Like you really can do this with just a phone. But I'm running into one big issue that made me pull the trigger on this investment and that's the battery. Video on an iPhone just takes up so much battery. It dies so quickly and I even bought a portable charger to kind of combat this issue. I paid like 100 bucks for a really good one. But I found that even when I use a portable charger, the phone overheats if I try to film and charge it. And even with the charger, I run through the entire charger in a full filming day. And it's just a little bit dangerous because my phone is my wallet. It's my navigation. It's how I call someone in an emergency. I just can't have my phone dying on me all the time when I want to film. And it's actually ruined some cool videos. Like the fact that I just don't have any battery left. What I like about these cameras is that they come with interchangeable batteries. So I could put like 10 little batteries in my purse if I wanted to and just have unlimited battery. So that's why I invested in the setup. Let's actually get into the setup. So for the main part, I got the Canon Powershot V1. Let's put this stuff to the side. Let's see. Here she is. Oh my gosh, I like it. It's like light. Okay, let's see it. Oh my gosh, I love it. What do you think? This is going to be you for the next while. Has a little flip out screen. Here's the battery. Let's see if it has any charge. Oh, wait, hang on. It wants me to connect my camera to the app. So I'll be back in a second. Okay, wait, sorry. I like totally forgot I was filming. I set up the camera. It did come with a battery. Oh, is it recording? Oh no, the battery's dying. That's why it's flashing. This is so cool. I'm obsessed with this thing. Okay, next. Actually, let me open up the battery so I can put those to charge already. I got these from Amazon. They are third-party batteries, but they had good reviews. Canon batteries are just pretty expensive. There's something that I'll invest in in the future for sure. It just wasn't at the top of my priority list. How do I open this? Okay, pretty straightforward. Comes with a little dock, three batteries, and the cable. Oh, and I love that it's USB-C because it works with all my other stuff. Okay, let me put these to charge real quick. Okay, now that those are going, let's see this tripod. I've heard a lot about this tripod. I used to watch Casey Neistat as a kid, and I'm pretty sure he used this at some point. It was honestly really affordable too, which is nice. Okay, so you put the camera on here. It has a ball head, so when you push this button, you can adjust it however you want and really get those angles. Seems pretty secure. Let's see the legs. I like that. How does it feel to hold? I like this, and I love how it's fairly small. I'm not sure if I can comfortably put this in a purse. We'll see. Then I got this SSD for editing. Oh my gosh, my laptop. I love my laptop. She is a trooper. I bought it in high school, and honestly, I was just looking for something affordable when I bought it, so I didn't get a lot of memory on it. Oh my gosh, it's so cute and tiny. So I got this two terabyte SSD card to edit my videos on because when I edit my videos, storage is really my biggest issue. It's to the point where I have to uninstall every app except for my editing software because I just don't have space on my laptop. I also got this SD card to put in the camera. I didn't go too crazy on this. I got 128 gigabytes. I think my biggest individual video was like 60 gigabytes, so this should do. But I did make sure to get a high quality one because the last thing I want is to film a whole video and have the file corrupt on me at the end. I would probably cry. Let's pop this in. One annoying thing about this camera is that in order to change out the battery or take out the SD card, you have to take it off the tripod. You see like this is the hatch for that, and then this is the screw. I kind of wish it was more over here or I don't know. I don't love that, but it's not a big deal. And then next I got this. I want to break a nail. I hope I don't have to return this. I got this SD card reader to plug the footage into my laptop at the end of the day. And then last but definitely not least, one of the things I'm most excited about is this mic set. I got the DJI mic mini, which is very similar to these mics that I'm using for my phone. I should open this a little nicer. Let me use my ID. This is kind of massive, which I don't love, especially considering that it's the mic mini. This isn't the mic, by the way. This is like the charging case that you carry around. How do I open this? Oh, here we go. Okay, so these are the mics. I can take it and attach it to my shirt like this. They're really high quality. And then you take this and you put it on your camera, like right up here. I'll set that up later, but I'm so excited to see how these sound. I wonder if they need to be charged. Yeah. Oh, is it also USB-C? It looks like it is also USB-C. Yes. Okay, cool. So I don't need any weird cables for any of my gear. Thank God. Let me also put this to charge. I love it. Okay, so I have to figure everything out, set it all up, but I'm so happy and so grateful to have all this here. Honestly, it's because of you guys. I would have never invested in a setup like this if it wasn't for you guys that are watching my videos. So truly, thank you all so, so, so much. I'm so excited to make videos for you guys with this stuff. So that's everything. I have all the batteries charging. I'll get everything set up, but for now, let's go get some dinner because I'm starving. Wait, I should clean this up first. Boom. I got my dinner and the people in there are so nice. I love Dig here in New York. The food is really great. It's delicious and it's also good for you. They, for the most part, use great ingredients. I say for the most part because some of their stuff has some seed oils in it, but it's easy to avoid. So now that I have my dinner, I'm going to go to the study room in my building. Some of my friends are there. So we're just going to hang out for a bit light this dinner. Hi, Julia. All right, I'm back in my room. I left the study room, had some dinner. 10 out of 10. And the camera batteries are actually almost fully charged. Not all the way there yet though. This too. But I'm not going to mess with it for now. I'm vlogging tomorrow too and I'll make that like my first vlog with the camera. I already feel so much better. Just like the excitement from opening up this camera, which I've been waiting for for so long. Dinner with friends is always just so refreshing. But now I want to run a quick errand. I want to go to Target real fast just to grab a couple things I'm needing. I need a new drinking water filter for the kitchen sink. And I'd like to pick up a body scrub because I want to try self tanning for the first time. I've been wanting to self tan for a while and I'll show you. I don't like the idea of self tanners because of all the chemicals that go in them. But I found this one by Beauty by Earth. They use all natural ingredients. It's like, I would say, the cleanest self tanner out there. I mean, I don't know all them out there, but the cleanest self tanner I've seen. I got the lightest possible one, at least to start with. I don't know. In the winters, I just get so pale. And as someone who was born and raised in Florida, I just love being tanned. Let's do it. I'm going to grab a thicker jacket this time though because the temperature is dropping quite a bit. Okay, let's go. Wow, the Empire State Building's in orange tonight. I haven't seen just orange in a while. It's pretty rare. One thing I love about living in New York City is that the streets are just so lively all the time. I love it. I don't love this though. There's like this doom clock and it just has this clock of allegedly when we run out of time to save the earth. Like when this hits zero, we are allegedly doomed and the world is for sure going to end. We got three years left. Make the most of them. Here we are. Okay, we're here for water filters, body scrub. Oh my gosh, wait. They have the Christmas decor out. This is dangerous. Okay, wait. I just found the cutest little pillows that I just have to get. Look at these. Oh my gosh. Wait, I like have to have this or I might die. These are so cute. 10 bucks. Honestly, that's a really good deal. But which ones do I get? I don't need this one. Although I do want it, but I don't need it. I for sure want this gingerbread man. That's a definite yes. And I want the Christmas tree too. I think they look cute together. But the stocking is also cute too. Where would I even put them? So that you prepare yourself, I'm totally doing a Christmas decor video. A little bit of a spoiler. I ordered a six foot Christmas tree. I love Christmas. If you couldn't tell. I don't need all three. Okay, honestly, this is the one speaking to me the least. These I for sure want. I'll start with these. Okay, I'm very happy with this. These are so cute too. Oh my gosh, wait. These are so cute. It's literally October. It's not time to decorate for Christmas yet. But I'm just scared that these things are going to run out, you know? Okay, wait. Five bucks. Okay, I'm going to get this. Actually, this one's shinier. This would be so cute on top of my desk. I'm so excited for Halloween to be over. Because then every single store ever is going to look just like this. Okay, we're here for water filters. Let's get water filters. Okay, this is what we're here for. Boom. Drinking water filters. I typically have good self-control. But that does not apply to Christmas decor. Okay, and the last thing we came for. A body scrub. Okay, everything in me wants to go back to the Christmas decor section. So let's get out of here before I make bad decisions. I walked out with a lot more than water filters and body scrub. But I'm happy about everything. And honestly, those were good deals. I can't ask for better than that. Okay, I'm back. Let me take this jacket off. It gets so hot. It's just like such a warm sweater or jacket. Oh, my batteries are charged. I'll get some mess with the camera before bed. And then let me put the fourth one in there. The one that came with the camera. How do I get this out? Oh, there we go. Let's see. Do you see yourself? I'm so excited to use this thing. I'm so pale. I like need to tan right now. Okay, let's tan. All right, I'm gonna install this filter. And then I'm gonna take an everything shower. And I'll see you right before I tan. Be right back. Okay, so I'm freshly showered, exfoliated, and shaved. And I'm ready to self-tan. I'm nervous. I have plans tomorrow. I have class tomorrow. Like if I mess this up, this is going to be so catastrophic for me. But I've been thinking about doing this for months. And then at the last minute, I psych myself out because I'm scared of messing it up. So tonight, I'm going to do it. I'm actually like so nervous. Like I'm not even playing. I don't really know how I'm gonna film this because it requires me to get unclothed. And I am a woman of God. So that will not be happening on camera. I think I might have to do like a before and after kind of thing. Okay, so this is what I look like now before the tan. I'm gonna use this product by Beauty by Earth. Wish me luck because this is my first time self-tanning. And I will see you on the other side. Good morning, everybody. It's a new day. I'm tan. And notice how I didn't use my hand to uncover the camera. Okay, okay. Big reveal in three, two, one. I'm tan. Honestly, I think it came out really great. I think the color is natural. It's not streaky. It's not splotchy. I'm loving it. But I did mess up my hands pretty bad. I should have used a tanning mitt. Hindsight is 20-20. But my hands are like the color orange. It's not good. I'm not super worried about it because I have an exfoliator. And I'm gonna try to see if I can take it off like that. And even if I can't, like, it's not the end of the world, you know. It'll fade in a few days. But I think the color is really natural. I don't think it's very fair because I did the before at night. And I'm doing the after in the morning. So the lighting is really different. But I love the color. It's subtle. Like my friends that saw me yesterday aren't gonna see me today and be like, Whoa, you're so tan. But I can definitely see a difference. I'm really happy. Honestly, I get like so pasty and pale in the winter. And I really do see myself doing this a lot then. I just have to get better. It's a skill issue. But yeah, just wanted to come on here and show you the results. Honestly, for my first time self tanning, I feel like it could have been a lot worse. And I'm happy with it.
