In this video, I show you how to perform cable oblique woodchoppers with proper form so you can build stronger obliques, improve core stability, and develop rotational strength. The cable woodchopper exercise is one of the best movements for targeting the obliques, strengthening the core, and improving athletic performance.
If you want better core strength, stronger abs, and more defined obliques, adding cable woodchoppers into your workout routine can help. This movement trains your body to resist and produce rotation, which carries over to sports performance, lifting, and everyday movement.

What up, it's Coach Josh from Klaus Fitness, your form expert online coach, and today I'm going to
show you how to do the Cable Oblique Twist or Cable Woodchopper, one of my favorite movements
for strengthening your obliques and building a lot of strength through rotation. So I find a lot of
people do these at mid-height. I don't get the same engagement, so I'm going to show you a variant
that's worked for me and it's really made a big difference for me in my abdominal package and my
obliques, and that's setting the cable all the way down. You can alternatively do this high,
you can do this mid. With a lot of ab movements, I really would break it down to what you feel the
most. I do think this variant will be one you will feel the most, but you can experiment, okay?
It's not like one specific setup is perfect, but I find the low to high variation is very natural
for the abs. So what you're going to do is you're going to grab it. You're going to start with your
right hand like this, and you're going to open it. You're going to grab your other hand just like
this. You're going to scoop under it. From here, what you're going to do is you're going to step
out like this. Now the big difference here is I like this foot to be square with my shoulders.
I like this foot to be open. This is going to allow me to open up my obliques here for the
actual twist of this movement. Now where a lot of people go wrong is they'll look this way while
they'll do it, and they're not actually going to engage your obliques when they are doing it
if you make that mistake. Instead, what we want to do is look forward here, and as you can see,
I already have a rotation in my abs. Now the big difference here is if I just do it with my arms,
I'm hardly engaging my obliques. I'm engaging my lat. Instead, if I squeeze and rotate through
my obliques, you can see the difference. Even without weight, it's a big difference.
So visualize like in your muscles, your abs are the ones twisting through. You're not doing it
with your hands. A good cue I like is pretending my elbow is rotating through. This is my position
of rotation. So once again, this is what this will look like. Right hand, you're going to grab. You're
going to take a step out. This foot's going to be forward. This foot's going to be open. This is
going to be slightly behind me. From here, my head's forward. I'm squeezing through those obliques,
twisting, letting a drag in that negative. Squeezing forward, twisting, and I like lifting
nice and high here. Pretending that elbow is the point of rotation, just like this. And you'll find
this just absolutely rips up your obliques. I made a tutorial on this before. Everyone mentioned how
much it helped them, how they finally felt it. So I wanted to remake it even better, higher quality.
